R34 Gt Triple Gauge Holder Centre Dash
666DAN replied to kyle345's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Don't scare monger, a diamond blade slid through it (as do the wafer thin cut-oof wheels), and becasue of the materials involved it couldn't catch if your life depended on it and there were no fumes at all. As for mess, the foam removal is a 1000 times worse as it's aged and friable. Basically if you're out of your depth safely controlling an angle grinder (lack forearm strength and delicate control) don't attempt using one and use an alternate method. If you're really bad with electric tools, spread peanut butter over the area and put 12 rats in the car.- 21 replies

LOL maybe it's the structural type? That's just cringeworthy, even a glue gun would have sounded less shoddy (just)- 21 replies

The main thing is to give yourself a nice bit of room so you don't remove too much dash plastic and have gaps at the edges. Use a nice sharp stanley knife and a ruler to mark out the area, then just peel the foam and plastic off the dash (the hard plastic just under) it's messy as and you'll have yellow foam all over the place, have a vacuum on hand. Once you've exposed the hard plastic, the angle grinder and cutting blade sorts it in seconds (WATCH THAT WINDSCREEN)- 21 replies

Take the vents out, behind the vent you'll see the screw holes that line up with the ones on the triple gauge, that's where it joins up. The n/a dash is a GTt dash without the hole cut, everything is basically exactly where it would be on the turbo car, just hidden under a plastic cover that needs to be cut out. here's a thread I contributed to a while back, has all the info you need http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/282281-r34-gtt-triple-gauge-into-na/- 21 replies

No unfortnately haven't have that for over 2 years, the turbo inhaled a nut somehow and bent the impellers. My wife decread not a cent more would be spent on the car, so I sold it to a mate and bought the CX-7 'for her'.......which I'm stuck with as she never drives it. It's getting the chop very soon for an Audi S3, which WILL be getting money spent on it dammit So you're still living the life down the coast?

Yeah it was easy, you just need a steady hand and measure a million times so you don't leave yourself with any gaps. Generally cut the hole 1.5cm undersized and use your finger to slowly and evenly remove the foam from under the plastic, the plastic just folds neatly and the triple gauge cluster hides the evidence.- 21 replies

Yeah vinyl ester and carbon gives a weak bonnet, epoxy is the win....but as mentioned it depends on the type of epoxy formulation; to be honest you're not going to see too many aromatic amine-cured, BMI-Novolac hybrid bonnets getting around in consumer circles. On an unrelated note, I've got a part I made at work which is silicon carbide bound by a BMI-Novolac hybrid . It got the nickname "the indestructable disc" after many attempts by the lab guys to do it harm. Fantastic paper-weight!

Did this to a couple of n/a cars, you need to be neat and fairly precise with an angle grinder and diamond blade. Under all that crap are the rear clips where the factory triple gauge hooks in, and the screw holes for the front part sit under the airvents. You can't tell it's been done when fitted correctly. (ignore the random look of the interior, my car had just been recovered from a chop-shop)- 21 replies

Big lunch just finished -
What company are you at Tony? My wife is in recruitment, every day is a new struggle by the sounds of it

Not super tough, you just need the right product, and a little bit of research, I started up allocating $200 as startup capital, if I blew it, fair enough, if it self sustained...yey! Did me well enough for a few years with the dash kits (well enough the ATO were very interested in me for a while), I sold ZPE in January to another forum member...so it opened up a few avenues with previous business models that got to the planning stage and never executed. I think Hannah and I have resigned to the fact that I generally don't like being managed by someone else, they normally have less insight than me and it just gets frustrating at their narrow minded inability to run a business. Plus why work your arse off to fill someone else's pockets! Even the Lab business may end up being an interim one, I'm waiting to see how poorly the Pharmacy business goes with the 'Pharmacy Fiscal Cliff' at the end of this year, then swoop in and buy a PBS number when they're not worth spit and move on with a business model that we trialled at uni, which still doesn't exist in Australia. Our lecturer was very impressed and said if he was younger, he would have actually considered quitting his job and trying it out.

Yeah they basically double-dip, force prices up while my whole ethos is supplying quality equipment at half the price, they really don't help me with their fees and poor support....oh and the biggest farse, they don't let me list half of my equipment as it is in breach of their poor blanket-ban policies.

Sure is, getting back to my roots....won't be on ebay for long though, currently getting the proper website built and taking on the big boys in the industry

I know you do Josh <3

It may be easier to list who you *do* like......

The R34 n/a ECU is also as tuneable as a brick I'm afraid.

I drive a CX-7 :S -
Make sure you earth the drum to the car (or whatever you're filling), static can be a nasty surprise when dealing with fuel. A jumper lead will work just fine.

That's right, only the first 1/4 of my intercooler was ever warm, it was nice an efficient and completely eliminated any under bonnet temperatures from the charge air. Stick with a better-flowing panel filter, one from a nice reputable manufacturer that doesn't let gravel through the filter is so useless
-
Not the N/A ECU, it's as flashable as a brick...they only work with an interface ECU like the e-manage
