Apparently someone on the corvette forum said that the GTR came third on the top gear track!! He was completely blown away after he found out it's time. Whoever doubt that it will never make top ten should hang their head in shame.

The Battle For Japanese Supercar Stardom Begins Anew
skyline_man replied to m3gtr's topic in R35 GTR
So you're saying that a hand built car isn't a production car? It doesn't matter how the car is built, whether by hand, feet, legs, by chimps or even idiots etc etc....If a company builds a car up to specs that makes it road safe, past emission tests, at least 15 models etc etc, then it qualifies as a production car. The Z-tune qualifies as a production car and IT IS a production car. Do your research moron! The Mclaren F1 was totally built by hand from the carbon fibre body to the engine etc, and it was not built on an assembly line. It is a production car. So from your logic, the Mclaren F1 isn't a production car as well? Moron, Pronunciation: \ˈmȯr-ˌän\ Function: noun Etymology: irregular from Greek mōros foolish, stupid -

^^ Do you know how to read? the comparison is between the R34 GTR N1 vs NSX-R - not the R33 GTR or normal R34 GTR!! You show me a video of the N1 getting beaten by the NSX-R or S or W or Z or whatever that comes out from the Honda factory and i'll admit that the NSX is faster than a R34 GTR. Yeah, but it is still a production car. But never mind the Z tune. My point is that no NSX can beat the N1 in the quarter. Don't tell me that the N1 is a Nismo tune as well!! -

If you know anything about GTR's at all, then you should know that the claimed "280hp" is BS. From the R32 to the R34, GTR's made over 300hp - around 340hp for the R34 to be precise. So what if the Z-tune was made in 2006, and R34 GTR's stopped production in 2002 (not 2000!!), whats that got to do with it being stock? I don't get your argument here. Wouldn't want you to be my defense lawyer if i am on trial for the death sentence!! The Z-tune qualifies as a production vehicle. In fact IT IS a production vehicle. A company has to make at least 15 cars ( from memory) in order for it to be classified as a production vehicle. When the Z-tune first came out, Nissan claimed it as being "the fastest production car in the quarter mile" It did it in the low 10s. Anyway, my point to the guy who claimed that the NSX-R is faster than a R34 GTR is that he is wrong. If he compared apples with apples ie, NSX-R vs N1 GTR then im sure the NSX-R aint faster in the quarter. What's that got to do with my opinion? And you drive a what....V35? Besides, at least im smart enough to spend 20 grand on a 33 GTST, rather then blow 60 odd grand on a POS poser S2000!! Finally last i recall, this is a Nissan forum isn't it? Judging from the majority of replies, it seems like i've stumbled onto some fan boy's try hard Honduhhh forum.... -

No, I'm afraid that you are the one who's failed. Wheels magazine tested a R34 N1 against a Holden Monaro a few years ago and it made more power on the dyno than it does on paper. The GTR's quarter mile was as fast as a 966 turbo - 12.6sec, and weighs about the same. So together with the power it made on the dyno at the wheels, they worked out that it had around 420hp - the same as the 996 turbo. Okay so my mistake. But it is still a POS!! If it qualifies as a production model - even though only 20 of them are made, then IT IS STOCK. Stock is what comes out of the factory. Stock cars have warranty. The Z-tune has warranty. Once you modified a car out of factory specs, then it aint stock anymore and you don't have warranty anymore also. By your logic, then the NSX-R, the Porsche GT3 RS, the Lambo Supperleggera, Ferrari Scuderia, R35 V-spec etc... are not stock as well because they were modified at the factory? Remember that the initial poster compared the stock R34 GTR to the NSX-R. By your logic, the two cannot be compared because the NSX-R is not stock. -

Not true. The R34 N1 will destroy the NSX in the quarter. It makes something like 420Hp stock from the factory. And i haven't even mentioned the Z-tune R34 yet (which is stock from the factory as well). Yes the S2000 and the NSX is RWD, but they are not in production anymore. I am talking about current production Honda's. -

m3gtr, you really need to get your facts right before you start to say how superior the Honda NSX is to the GTR. First of all, the Japanese GT500 race cars are nothing like the road cars! The only thing they have in common with the real road cars are the shell and the brand name. That's it. And whenever a particular team wins a race, they get a weight penalty for the next race to make it more competitive. Honda's IMHO are overpriced and are very good at ripping off the uneducated car buyers with their marketing strategies. They advertise their cars as "Formula 1 inspired" but you look at their line up today and you won't find a single Honda that is rear wheel drive, has paddle shifters and is at least 6 cylinders. All of their so called "formula 1 inspired" performance cars are 4 cylinder, front wheel drive, underpowered and under torque POS. What happened to the "Formula 1 inspired"? Besides, Honda is doing really crap in Formula 1 right now. Honda's philosophy since the early 80's was that they will never use turbo charging in their road cars, because back then turbo charged cars were unreliable. I wonder if this philosophy of theirs is going to come back and bite them. Nissan on the other hand are the "silent achievers" and when it comes to their top model sports car - they are unmatched. If it wasn't for the gentlemans agreement - the R33 and R34 GTR's would've simply destroy the competition. -
RX7 is old school mate. Doesn't matter how balance the RX7 is, it still uses a normal manual gearbox and is RWD. Wait till you see a "fully" tuned R35 - then we'll see if there's anything that can stop it! Noticed in the video that when Tsuchiya was starting behind the GTR, he kept very close right at the beginning, whereas when the GTR started behind the RX7, the driver of the GTR was nowhere as near to the back end of that RX7 as Tsuchiya was to the GTR. If drivers were swapped, im sure it would've been a different outcome. And to think that it takes a very well tuned RX7 to marginally beat a basically stock GTR says a lot about the GTR.

The stock GTR in the One Lap of America finished ahead of ALL the stock z06's. So if the GTR was a failure, then i guess the z06's are a complete embarrassment? I have to disagree with you on this. Toshio Suzuki IS a specialist ring driver. He has racked up hundreds even thousands of laps on the Nurg. I doubt that another specialist driver would be able to duplicate that time, let alone beat it. The reason is that Toshio has been driving the GTR ever since it was in prototype form. He is accustomed to the way it handles and knows it like the back of his hand. You let another pro driver jump into the GTR and there is no way they will be able to extract every ounce of performance from it like Toshio has.

Apparently, Porsche couldn't get the DSG system to work properly on the 997 turbo so they abandoned it. Nothing to do with weight. Now, however, after the Porshe engineers have dismantled the GTR at their headquarters and studied how to apply the DSG system properly - guess what? The next 911 turbo will have a 7 spd DSG gearbox!!
-
Well put Garry. Those who still wants a traditional manual in the R35 GTR must be either ignorant, insane or just for plain chest beating, dick wanking value.
-
I believe him. The 911 turbo has the same power but is 100 or so odd kilos lighter. The GTR accelerates faster to 150km/h than the turbo but from then on, the turbo walks away. Taking into account that the DSG in the GTR shifts much faster than the Auto in the turbo and that the turbo has higher gearing - if the GTR has any more than 500hp - the turbo, shouldn't be faster above 150km/h than the GTR.
-
Actually i am not surprised. Always had a hunch that Nissan held back with the 7.38min lap time. It's all a marketing strategy. They wanted to impress the world, but not too much or else no one would've believed them. But now since so many tests of the GTR vs 911 turbo, Z06 etc have shown that the GTR canes them around every track tested so far and by up to 5 secs on short tracks such as Buttonwillow (Z06 boys are still calling foul play), Nissan decided that it's time to confess the 'real' potential of the GTR. If you extrapolate the times that the GTR beats cars such as the 911 turbo and Z06 on short tracks for example, to the much longer track Nurburgring, then its obvious that the GTR should of been a lot faster than the 2sec over the 911 turbo or 4sec over the Z06 at the Nurburgring. And that is taking into account the long stretch at the end of the course where the turbo and Z06 would've made up some time over the GTR.
-
Actually, the F430 gearbox shifts slightly faster than the GTR's but loses out in terms of smoothness.
-
My point is that there aint any Supras with street tires running under 10 sec quarter mile times. RWD and just too heavy - no matter how good the engine is.
-
There are a few journalists in the states criticizing the new GTR as lacking in character because its just too easy to drive fast around a circuit. They complain that all the electronics is taking the fun and scariness out of driving. I think it's just a load of bull. I mean C'mon, do these dim wits even don't know that the GTR actually has traction control and stability control switches? If they do, then they would know that if you turn the TC an SC off, then the car would be a hell of a lot scarier to drive and hence have more 'character'? Really, i can't see the logic in people who say that this car or that car has a soul. For gods sake, its just a machine - how can it have a soul? The only explanation is that these people are just making up excuses for the car's imperfection by saying that it has soul. The GTR has no soul because- it's Perfect.
-
I believe only on full drag tires. But on street legal tires such as Nittos? - not a chance. In Japan, they are more into the the Nitto's for their drag cars - makes it more challenging. You don't see many or any Supra's in the RH9 club.
-
Not only that but the DSG gearbox in the GTR is rated as the most technologically awesome gearbox in any car - bar the Veyron. The reason is that the torque is maintained while you shift gears and does not drop off like in a conventional gearbox or any of the 'paddle shifting' gearbox's of the F430 or Gallardo.
-
I believe the plasma respray is done every 100,000km, not every year. And it costs around 10 grand. Even if you had to plasma respray the GTR 10 times - you are still better off than buying a new 911 turbo which costs AU$180 grand more than the GTR.
-
Sure looks awesome in real life. Very brutal. Makes the Ferrari F430 look so ordinary. Those that criticize its looks should see it in real life.
-
Yeah, i always reckon that the 33 looks better than the 34. More wider and chunkier. The 33 ages more gracefully whereas the 34 is too squarish and robotic. Anyway, nice pics but it would've been better if you had arranged them side by side next to each other and taken front, side and back photos so that we can more clearly see the size difference of the 3 models.

Swapping the original steering wheel with the air bags for the Nardi wheel is like swapping your hot blonde wife with a good set of knockers for an ugly, flat chested hoe.
-
Yeah, i agree. You can tell that the GTR slowed down to let the Evo catch up. Looked at how the GTR just pulled away from the Evo on the straight until it was out of sight, and when the Evo reaches the corner at the end of the straight - the GTR was right there. WTF??? Also, the way that Evo passed the 34 GTR and other cars was a bit too easy in my opinion. Either the Evo driver was very good, or the other drivers were pretty crap. I think this whole video of the GTR and Evo is just a set up.
