If you don't want to cancel the rego just fill out a standard vehicle registration transfer form or whatever it is. Keep your copy and give the seller his. The seller can still hand in the transfer paper and has a certain time frame to submit a RWC to complete transfer into his name. At least this way any fines or anything under that registration will go straight to the new buyer. Have done it like this in the past before, never had a problem. If any fines or anything show up you just present your copy of the transfer paper to Vic roads.
