Slip, I don't agree. Just have one kind of membership for everyone. Have an associate class for the competitions when they start up.

I had a great arvo. It's great to be able to keep up with you guys now I've got some decent rubber on the thing. URMINE, got an email from Bernie Ecclestone asking if I knew who was in the white 33 with the black front bar. He said one of his scouts was out there and that's just the kind of driver he's looking for to spice up F1 blah, blah. I told him I couldn't remember and to p*** off and stop spamming me. It was only later I thought he must have meant your car. Sorry if I ruined your F1 career buddy!

You Betcha! I may have to go somewhere in the morning, I'll know mid morning. Want to cruise out if I'm going direct from home? Give you a ring in the morning.

Brakes ... EBC Greenstuff pads and DBA rotors ?
red900ss replied to JiMb0's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
There's been some talk on PF and SDU ( I think) of the DBA cross drilled rotors cracking. They don't even do them for the GT-R anymore. I was told by a guy that knows a fair bit about this stuff that slotted rotors are only really worth it for race cars when new pads are applied during a race. The pads give off vapours when they are getting bedded in and the slots minimise the "hovercraft" effect of the gasses being trapped between the pad and disc. Not a prob for a street car, but a big thing during a race. I will probably go with non-slotted when I get around to it. Even (shock, horror!) Nissan originals maybe! -
In an engine like the RB25DET I think the thinner the better. Nissan engines typically use a fairly thin oil anyway (normally around a 5W I think). Their tolerances seem pretty tight, so the thinner the better especially with the turbo. In the bike I use a thicker oil (straight 40W or 50W) as it's air cooled and these engines naturally have wider tollerances. If you have an old clunker and it's using/blowing oil try a thicker viscosity. Whatever you do keep that el Cheapo no name stuff out of your engine. Buy the best you can afford.

There are about 3 different "grades" of Mobil 1. I'm not talking about the viscosity but the actual quality. This was news to me a couple of weeks ago. I have been using the 0W40 I get from my Bro in law. Cost price is now $16/litre, used to be around $10. It's good stuff. It's not the same as the stuff you get at K-Mart. The car blew some tiny puffs of smoke when it 1st went in but now doesn't blow/use any. Thin as water. I change it every 5000 or earlier (usually 'cos I can't quite remember when 5000 is up...) Recommend it.

ATE make a very good fluid. Almost the boiling point of Castrol SRF but half the price(??). I can get some for peoples with a bit of notice ( via Bro in law)

I got a set of FM901s a few weeks ago from Mathews Tyres Chatswood 235/45 17 255/40 17 $1010 plus ~$30 for some super duper balance job.... They are noisier (road rumble) than the pirelli/michelin combo I had on but grip seems pretty good. I had one delaminate at Wakefield when they were 5 days and ~400 km old. It had a groovy beat to it while I limped back to the pits... Mathews were not very helpful at first but after some "discussion" they got on to Dunlop and found a place in Goulburn to look after me. Took the stuffed tyre to Beaurepaires Brookvale and they had a new one for me next day no charge.

I've been off the net for a while and have only read parts of this thread so I'll start by saying sorry if this has all been said before. Here's my $0.02. I think affiliated state chapters of a club called, for example: Skylines Australia, NSW Skylines Australia, WA etc. Then the stickers etc. can either say the state or not. One website with regional forums etc. If we have a national club we are going to end up with regions/states anyway. I have no clue from a legal/requirements point of view which is better to set up. I would think it would have to be Incorporated in at least one state anyway. The various Porsche clubs are a good example. They are separate entities which all communicate and get together for nationals etc. Personally I have no problem with SDU as a name, although SAU is good as well. Either way an open line of communication between us and the Kiwis would be a good thing to keep. Just because they shut down their forums (which they are entirley in their rights to do) doesn't mean we should sever the ties. I have the odd bit of spare time available so I'm happy to help in setting up the NSW club.
