you really think it passed pits with that turbo setup and 3" straight exhaust? BRILLIANT. -

probably the most solid advice i've heard. Waiting for money to come in before i can make such a drastic build though, baby steps. Any suggestions on turbo models for rb25det? -

I know it's not the best (and i don't have plug/play cables for it yet) but it'll suffice until i can afford something better -

Yeah it was overboosting, Too much air not enough fuel. stock fuel injectors couldn't keep up which caused a fuel cut at 7k rpm and backfiring/stuttering. While sounding like a rally car with antilag when it combusts in your exhaust manifold and spits flames, it's very bad econemy. Also very bad for the engine when it's boosting random psi. -

No, from my understanding people usually weld a pipe up and route it back to exhaust. Very unclear on this gasket though, people also weld up pipes with silcencer in them and vent to atmo. welding pipes and routing stuff to me is overcomplicating as i do not have my mig anymore, Saying that it's looking like the only legit solution, just searching through all avaliable options before i chop things up though. -

indeed i did, 4k for r33 import with 80 thousand k's on the clock with every pannel straight, interior in perfect condition and a newly machined head because the stock turbo pop'd. It was sitting since 2007-2012 before previous owner worked on it again (still has 2007 rego sticker on windshield). I knew it'd be a project car and i'm slowly replacing all the parts, engine compression is spot on, no missing like some rb's, no turbo shaft play or signs of oil seeping in, only real issue is the ebay turbo (who knows how long she'll run for) which i'll replace when i get a chance. I'm obviously aware of a muffler baffle/silencer as i mentioned it before, but have no idea on what brands/products are good/effective, Or if anyone else has tryed to do it alternate ways which is why i'm asking opinions. Yeah i'm aware the risk it runs against the popo's and in perth they're cracking down on modified cars hard. The abundant noise is why i created the post, but as i mentioned earlier i'll take it to the exhaust shop tomorro and get a quote and revisit my options. -

At what point did i remove anything? wastegate was already hooked up to exhaust manifold, just didn't have the nipple on the pipe from the cold side of turbo routed to the wastegate to add pressure to open it, meaning it was boosting uncontrollibly and fuel cutting/backfireing when it overboosted. Hence the need for the wastegate to be hooked up so it can releive pressure, yet i'm discussing ways to silcence the wastegate noise as it's obviously noticable as external atmo gates are. You can add your opinion about the car, not about people in the thread because who the f**k cares about that. -

i didn't remove shit, i'm dealing with what i got. You have a high post count for someone that spits usless info, why don't you put it on your resume and see how far your condisending attitude gets you in life. -

One of the reasons i haven't dumped the car on a shop yet is a pride thing, when i got the car i had to do alot of work replacing hoses and rerouting things properly (there was no nipple for boost on turbo or in piping) causing it to boost cut really bad. You can see in above pic that my oil feed is pretty sad, needs a 90 degree fitting and braided hoses to avoid kinks/melting. Couple hoses had some shocking frays and was dripping little bits of oil. So i'm making sure that everything is in good nick and wont be an issure before milking power out of it. Another reason would be the cost, i simply don't have 1 grand to drop into tuning right now and am saving my pennies until i can get there, until then i'll be working on it the best i can learning as i go. (pic is oil return line from turbo, one of the many pipes i've been replacing with proper silicone heat resistant pipes). -

Not yet, i have a microtec lt-12 ecu but don't have the plug play cables yet to edit setups. I was originally living in canada but i'm living in perth now. -

Thanks man, i appreciate the helpful post. I think plumbing back to downpipe may be the best option, what is the horsepower difference? I started around 320hp and it feels like i've lost about 50 hp with the gates current setup, will downpipe plumbing effect performance oposed to exhaust vent to atmo? -

Hey man, you had to learn at some point too. I know alot about n/a engines but i'm fairly new to turbo's although i'm getting there. Why do skyline drivers always condescend on people :\ -

Not stock turbo, pretty sure it's a ebay turbo (Was there when i bought the car). [i'm aware the oil feed line isn't the best and i'm ordering braided hose for anyone about to comment on it] I've done some research and some people use moto exhaust silencers plumbed to external to quiet it down, anyone done this? also can i change the way the gate opens? i'd prefer it at higher rpms oposed to when im just trying to overtake people. -

Dat cool story, internet intimidation.. please. once again you're not helping, how does it feel to be a literal waste of space? i've seen a few people in japan pull baffle's out of there muffler and it reduces sound very well, do you know if/where we can get them in aus? -

Do you actually know how to help? or are you just insulting people as an excuse to yourself that you're interacting socially? -

Haha usually i'd agree with you man, and with a straight pipe i could get away with full boost flutters n shit. I actually had a guy have a shout at me when i went past his house, no idea what he said but he looked pissed.i got 10 demerit points i don't need to popo's attention right now. is there anyway to make the wastegate open in higher revs but keep boost up? -
Skyline Is Too Loud (Never Thought I'd Say That)
iTwix replied to iTwix's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
it is plumbed to the exhaust manifold and boost is coming just infront of the cold side of turbo. I like the sound, but everyone else in my neighbourhood + copperdogs don't. after 3-4k rpm sounds like vtec is kicking in (i have a really big turbo). Yeah it's venting to atmo, not downpipe -
Yo people, My problem is that my R33 gts is way to loud after hooking my external wastegate up. My skyline has a straight through exhaust which is loud itself, but not overly loud. When i hooked the waste gate up it made such a noise that it pissed off anyone within a mile of me, and honestly caugth me off gaurd. Is there any chance it could be faulty or any way of reducing noise through my system? I can't even hear my turbo flutter anymore, and my flutter was super loud. Vid attached (only sound as i can't film while driving + little skid). Anyone know of any options?

accidental repost due to lagg, sorry.

comparing to a few other makes of japanese engines the rb's seem to last pretty damn long D: Obviously not bullet proof like a v8 though :L
