Exhaust Manifold Gasket Replacement
boostn32 replied to mystery_kid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
exhaust studs are fun, ive none a few where they havent broken, and just as many that have broken, spray inox, wd40 on the treads before trying to remove them. inspect the studs before refitting the manifold. i always use a thread chaser to clean the treads before refitting. use copper grease on threads and dont over tighten. if there is going to be one that will snap it always seems to be that last one, lol. -
its ignition, the bang is unburnt fuel in the exhaust exploding, remove all coil packs and plugs, check plug tips for fouling, sthey should be a dark grey colour, check all connections on coil loom including earth. check for out put from cas and ignitor while cranking engine.

Good one Moodles2 good to see you know what is supposed to be done.

If you glaze the pads any type will squeal, just stating what i do and recommend for my customers and haven't had a problem yet.
-
Yeah thats one way to do it. as those pads suit those rotors.
-
LOL, rotors dont cause the problem its the pads, cheaper pads dont squeal due to having buger all metal in them, good track pads have high metal content in them and all will squeal at some stage and its just the nature of the pad and they are harder on rotors, cheaper pads wont squeal but dont have the performance of the dearer pads, then there is the low dust pads that would suit grampa's 120y. also changing pads from street to track use is not the best idea as the pads and rotors get grooves in them and if there is not a perferct contact accross the pad its like having brakes half the size, if you want good brakes you will get a bit of squeal and spraying good brakes with stuff is just like putting in cheaper pads as they loose there performance value. Just something to think about. if you do decide to get new pads, use your current rotors, machine them if there is enough meat left and select a pad to suit your application. there is a sticky in this section on pads, have a read what other members think of the pads they use. get a price and contact me and i will see if i can do it cheaper.
-
Hmmm you have pads that squeal due to the type of pad material that is ment for high temp and track use. so you spray stuff on the rotors to stop them squeaking and reducing how well the brakes work, why use pads that cost alot more than ones that wont squeal and dont need a band aid to fix the noise for a day. fit the right pads you want and deal with the dust or noise. do you see race car teams spraying crap on the rotors? use the correct pads for the application. problem fixed.
-
that is pretty much the opposite on how to bed barkes in, you should do around 60kph brake to 10kph 6 times without harsh braking and dont come to a complete stop, you should not give the brakes a hard time for at least 150km's but this will all vary with each type of pad, that is just a guide that i follow and works with customers cars.
-
depending on what the pads are made of, but the better grade pads have a higher metalic content and cause the pads to squeal, example bendix ultimate's. but your issue could be due to glazed pads and rotors due to not beding them in correctly, or the plates behind the pads could be missing. If the pads are fitted correctly in the calipers this could be just a case of linish pads and machine rotors to remove glazed surfaces. but at the end of the day if the pads have a high metal content they will squeal, just the nature of the pads. I recently fitted diferent pads and machined the rotors for another member on here and he said they have never been so quiet.
