Nice Turbo's Tits, im getting mine done soon i also say aftermarket ECUs can run as smooth as factory, and if you've modded, then even smoother than factory in the case of the 33, for which with FMIC boost etc, doesnt run real good with factory ECU!

Locked Diff, ActiveLSD, or LSD ? Someone explain...
SLY33 replied to ix9's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
whats there to decide? get the turbo!! You prob wont even need LSD in a non turbo most of the time -is the std diff in the turbos viscous? or does it have clutch plates? what is a viscous LSD?! -
Im repeatedly tempted at fitting a GTR kit, but then ill see some dude in a 33 having to crawl out of a car park or driveway at some ridiculous angle, and then do a 3 point turn to face the way he actually wants to go! I think kits look wicked, making the front look real low, but i dont like the look of a nice big front bar with std ride height. To get the full effect you want your car lowered as much as possible, which then gives you stuff all clearance at the front! At the moment ive just got it real low with big wheels and absolutely NO kit, not even the factory option front bar. Normally im not real keen on the basic look that mine has, but get it low, and the whole package looks nice and clean. Even though i guess that the vast majority of ppl here have at least some sort of body kit, how many of you find a low front bar more trouble than its worth?

Does Nismo 400R bumper will fit for R32 gtr ?
SLY33 replied to benr32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i dont see how it could fit a 32 seeing the 400r is for a 33. -
2540's will give the higher peak, but for street its all about average power... A slightly lower peak but with a fat midrange is far superior to a laggier peakier turbo. This has been well covered in HPI. And its been shown that a 2530 will be quicker than a 2540 on street. INASNT, the 2530 will only need 1.1 bar for 230kw on an RB25, as im told SYDNEYKID has seen. And who are we to argue with him? Joel, as far as the brand name not being better, I would tend to agree, but its been written so many times in HPI from experience, that the HKS stuff does its job EXTREMELY well, and people who have gone the cheaper garret stuff are usually dissappointed when shooting for HKS numbers and response. Thats according to M.Donnon's personal experiences....

steve has 32 for his 8's. This is still fine, but the 35's sit out just right, with NO scrubbing. I figure you want them to stick out as much as possible without fouling the guards, as it looks a lot better. you often see 17's on skylines that seem to sit in under the guards too much, making the car look a bit funny. Steves would stick out a bit more than the 35's (lower the number, more they stick out) But i found with mine that the 35's looked bordering on scrubbing. Then again 35/32 offset, is only 1.5mm per side difference as the extra mm's are seen half on one side and half on the other side of the rim. So prob not gonna notice it. It depends on what rims you want. Not every rim is available in every offset. So you might be a few mm in or out of your desired offset due to your rim choice.
-
35 offset for an 8 wide rim in any diameter is PERFECT. 8.5inch wide require 38 offset for the perfect fit of the 8 inch rim. Dont know the exact offset for wider rims than 8.5, but the ones i said for 8 and 8.5 are exact- know from having them both on my car.

a heavier cap increases the pressure in your system. This actually increases the boiling temperature of the coolant. Eg water boils at 100degrees at 1 atmosphere. The coolant in your system heats up and gets pressurised so that it boils at a higher temp than 100, ie you dont want your coolant to boil as you get steam. Basically i think its supposed to increase the cooling system to operate at a higher temp without blowing its top into the overflow bottle, and as you say, more coolant will remain in the system.

theres at least a few good threads with lots of details about brands and prices etc, have a search...

Joel, would that be JMS? Terry is en route to Japan and promises to bring back HKS 2530's and 2535's plus bigger stuff!

if you want full boost by around 3500 then youll need something smaller than the 2835... as mentioned if you want 350rwhp, full boost by 3500 is a bit optimistic. im getting a HKS GT2530, for a comfortable 310rwhp (~230rwkw at 1.1bar) i dont see why it wouldnt do 240kw, with more boost (as its been done on a stock RB20 with same turbo) while the peak power is a bit short of what your looking for, i hear the response and midrange make for a killer street car. Also you can get a decent one 2nd hand from about 1800$ and will bolt straight up. With a RRregulator you can use standard injectors and your internals will easily hold out.

thats pretty cheap... surely theres a reason? K's arent real high for its age, is it coz its a four door or something? i dont think ive ever seen a 4door 32 on the road.

i came bak to my car once just as some chick flipped up the little bootlid key cover... even so i was pretty pissed.

your 21 and have an S15? What do you do?! I was still a uni student at 21! (Im 25, still a uni student )
-
for sure, ive run MILD rb20's in VL's and only just pulled away, with 200rwkw in my 33. The calais will be a bit heavier tho, which maybe is what turbomad is talking about.

how do u go against v8's on highways
SLY33 replied to playa's topic in General Automotive Discussion
hardly any TVR's over here dude... I always wanted a Griffith 500, but now theres all sorts of wicked sixes available! btw for those that dont know, a TVR is a british sports car about the size of an MX5 mazda, but with big V8 or highly worked six under the hood, all doing 0-100 in around 4 seconds off the showroom floor. -

Crazy S13 For sale on Car sales
SLY33 replied to BOOSTMEISTER's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yeah it was a real bargain... guy mustve needed cash. I do agree with you though, you have to start somewhere. Also if its tuned to "perfection" and everything runs sweet with no probs, thats often overlooked. You can easily buy a car with a stack of good mods, but then spend the next few months and heaps more dollars sorting out little problems that you shouldnt have to. -
Cheap alternative to Z32 Airflow upgrade???
SLY33 replied to Rowdyr32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
To quote Mr HPI himself, Martin Donnon:- "other than on CA18 or SR20's there is little raw airflow value to be had in changing AFM's. There are all sorts of black magic rumours that the 300zx 80mm AFM has some sort of beneficial effect on engine power, but the reality is that it doesnt." "the only reason you would ever substitute a Z32 AFM is in extreme high-boost applications where its calibrated range is higher than that found on the RB20 or RB25. At 1.5bar on, you have slightly better chance of tuning with the Z32 unit, but thats about it." "If you have an RB20/RB25 powered car , dont rush out and change the AFM for the sake of it. All you will end up with is a massive tuning problem" Clint32, it seems you are right about the AFMs from 32's and 300zx's both being 80mm, and not 70mm on the 32. (according to HPI mag) rowdy, while its not exactly answering if your idea will work or not, i found the article interesting as many people inc myself seem to be a bit confused about the whole jist of changing AFMs, and thought it could be useful to readers of this thread. cheers SLY33 -
Cheap alternative to Z32 Airflow upgrade???
SLY33 replied to Rowdyr32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its an interesting idea and you guys seem quite excited about coming up with possibly a new solution to z32 replacement. my question is, how much power are you chasing, or planning to make? Apparently lots of people want to "upgrade" to z32 AFMs, when most of the time its not even necessary. -
Ive been researching the 2530's like crazy coz im getting one soon, sydneykid has been very helpful in providing info! 2530 on an RB20:- 220rwkw at 1.1bar boost. sydneykid tells me 2530 on RB25 = 230rwkw at 1.1bar. Not huge numbers by dyno comp standards, but with fat torque from very usable levels, should make a damn quick street car that wont leave you hanging around waiting for the power to kick in. (there seem to have been quite a few threads on HKS GT series stuff lately!) So, GT2530 on RB20 or 25 with 220+rwkw should be easy 12's, with better than stock drivability (with well tuned ECU), what more would ya want from a street car!?
-
Sydney kid, like KamikazeR33 im also looking at HKS 25series for my RB25. Would you suggest a 2530 would be quicker than a 2540 on the street due to higher avg power? also how bout the 2535? would the 2530 still be a better option? CHEERS! ---> ahh just seen you answered in my Hks Gt2530/2535 thread, thanks, you might wanna check it out kamikazeR33.
