Optimax Extreme For R32 Gtst
xRHETTx replied to TutsR32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah in my opinion Extreme is a rip off. Its more expensive than Optimax, isn't the point of ethanol blended fuels that they are meant to be cheaper? That 5% ethanol is 5% petrol they dont have to put in (about $5 worth these days for a full tank). -
Moving To Australia W/ A Gtr As A Bonus?
xRHETTx replied to js3324's topic in General Automotive Discussion
What course are you looking at doing? That's what i'd be working out first. Wherever you end up going, sell the STI, bring the money over here and buy a GTR. University will be cheaper in australia too, prob about US$15000 a year max, so think of the money you'll be saving in course fees too! -
Man $110 will just get an oil and oil filter change. I'd highly recommend learning to do this yourself, because over the life of your line you will save a fortune. It'll cost you $50 instead of $110, and you will prob end up doing it more often (every 5000km hopefully)

Yes having a pod makes the stock BOV louder.

Pretty sure its in the FAQ/tutorials forum. -
OK you really should have looked into insurance before you got serious about getting the car hey? $1900 is a very reasonable price, hey by a reletively new SS commodore and you'd be paying about that too. I went with just car insurance, my first year was $1700 for my r32 when i was 21, with 3 years perfect driving and insurance record. Putting the car under your parents name DOES NOT WORK for imports. Most mainstream insurance companies wont touch them, and all the companies that do HAVE WORKED OUT THAT SCAM years ago. Even if its in your parents name, they will ask you if anyone else will be driving it, and if you say you are (even for a small % of the time) they will charge you the same rate as if you had the car in your name. If you dont tell them that you are driving the car, you wont be covered so your wasting your money. Its called a named driver policy (thats what just cars calls it) Only people on the policy are covered at all. And do a search, there is heaps of info about insurance on the forum. Try Just cars or Prestige. Also, if you are on your P plates in Vic or NSW, you are illegally driving a r33 gtst, so be prepared to have a lot of trouble with the police and the chance that EVEN if you have insurance and have an accident, that you wont be covered. Cheers, Good luck

Would You Buy Your Child A Car?
xRHETTx replied to HannahMc's topic in General Automotive Discussion
My parents matched every dollar that i could save for my first car. But being in Victoria meant that didnt happen til i was 18, i had saved $2000 so i spent $4000 on a r31 wagon. I would NEVER buy my kids a car, but i would consider matching what they saved, if it meant they were getting a safer/more reliable car than they would otherwise. I would NEVER put in for a sports car for my kids, if they want something thats going to cost them alot of money they can pay for all of it themselves. And just like me, my kids will certainly not be driving a turbo car until they are 21. It just doesnt make sense. -
They cost a lot more because they are made by AP engineering and are in limited supply. Go Nengun or wait for a group buy (they have happened in th epast)

Yeah the cig lighter is where i connected my boost guage electricals. Its easy to get to (on an r32 at least) and it has everything you need - +12V, ground and illumination.

Where Do People Mount Their Boost Gauges On An R33
xRHETTx replied to nsta's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
In victoria, a gauge anywhere above the dash line is defectable. Not sure if it is relevent, but in my r32 my boost gauge is mounted below the leftmost edge of the instrument cluster. It looks pretty good there and with my aftermarket steering wheel you can see if perfectly (and its legal). -
Mine made 128.3kW with only a pod filter and a cat back exhaust, stock boost (~10.5psi)

Question On Exterior Differences In R32 Models
xRHETTx replied to tastyratz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The GTR bumper is the one to go for, it is much more aggressive, and have a large opening for a front mount intercooler etc. The gtst bar is much more boring. The gtr bar is a little bit wider, but some people here have fitted it to a gtst with a small amount of modification. The headlights are the same between the gtst and gtr, but the gts indicators are wider. The gtr fenders (or front guards) are aluminium and are wider, and fit up to the wider gtr indicators and front bar perfectly. All the fenders had the gt badge on the side, non-turbo models have a blue badge whilst the turbo ones have a red badge. Where in the US are you from? Im of to Colorado on monday to do a ski season of work. -
You can wash my car if you wear a bikini, I'll give you $5, I hear its the going rate. Seriously, there are heaps of jobs around, you just have to look.

Compression Ratio Formula And Info

Imperial measurements suck... Good info though. -
I dont think its right to blame this on the unions (as GM would want to) How about not trying to increase profits every year by crazy amounts? Im sure if you were a mechanical assembler in an engine plant spending all day putting a particular nut on a particular bolt getting paid $30k a year you'd probably want a better deal too... How about the company (or its shareholders really) saying "we'll forego trying to increase our investment return this year, instead its more important for the community as a whole for these 30000 people to remain employed" Although i cant see that ever happening, its nice to think it would...

The display will only work if it is plugged in before the main unit is powered up. I nearly had a heart attack when i finally plugged mine in and it didnt light up, so i turned the car off and back on again and it worked. Hope this is the case for you too...

Nice photos guys. Ill have to get into this one day... Dark: nice magna.

If your clutch is wearing out, you will notice it slipping in 4th and 5th gear first. When mine was on the way out, it took about 3 months of driving around with 4th and 5th slipping for it to start slipping in 2nd and 3rd.

As long as you dont open the bonnet, all the electric system is only 12V so dont be afraid to have a poke around. As LO R33 said, get a multimeter and have a look. If they have power, you have probably fried them as the were hooked up to a non-fused source (like straight from the battery) If they dont have power, the odds are a fuse has gone. I'd be checking the cigarette lighter fuse first, as most people run heaps of stuff off it as its easy to get to and has positive, earth and illumination (what most gauges need).

At 30-50% discount it'd still be a ripoff. I hope you are an official SAU trader or else prepare for some unhappy posts.

Yeah basketball cards were all the rage through primary school: Fluer Upperdeck Hoops And remember how much they all were in that A'Bekkets magazine or whatever it was? $30US shaq cards, never met anyone who ever actually sold a card for any money though. And marbles.. until they banned them for causing too many fights and being an "illegal" form of "gambling"
