Well what can i say! Im finally here.. living in japan! It was quite a trip.. a nice long 12 hour delay inbetween flights.. but we wont go there.. But now living in the nice country town of Tsuru, in the Yamanshi prefecture. Its pretty decent. Clean and just lively enough, so i quite like it. ALready visited a few shops and places. Went to Gotemba, and the Outlet shopping centre thing there. was quite cool! Who wouldve thought that Versace and Dolce and Gabbana had a factory outlet store. =| Strange.. lol.. Was hoping to drop into Fuji speedway while we were there though, but that didnt happen. =$ lol.. Also went to my first autobacs store the other day in Fujiyoshida. Its pretty cool.. decent range i guess, but either way, way cooler than the local Supercheap Auto back home.. I also grabbed my ticket to Autosalon 2005 from Lawson the other day.. Hanging out for that. So ive been having a pretty good time, and quite liking Japan. The only downers.. One.. the shoes here only go upto size 10, not really useful when your a size 12 lol.. and two.. My host family only has dialup internet access, and i dont think theres a internet cafe in the area, but oh well no biggie.. My host family still rocks and im enjoying myself.. Anyway, hope to meet some of you guys come autosalon time or before then, and hopefully by then i can find my own place and a full time job =) I should have a mobile phone soon aswell so if anyone drops past this way (fat chance) it would be cool to say hi! Thanks guys!!

Guys just wondering if there any options for after the show for members who dont have cars currently in Japan? Is a hire car a viable option? Or should we start begging for lifts from members currently over there with cars? I'm quite keen to see the local car scene and Daikoku especially. Is there another option? P.S. Circusmonkey you have a PM

Guys, just wondering if where everyone is staying? I'll be living in yamanashi, but thats a good 3 hours there and back by train.. Im thinking it might be better to stay the night in tokyo somwhere rather than travel 6 hours in day :|
-

Dave that looks the goods! Almost reminds me of the old Lakeside here in Queensland.. But smaller lol.. I'll be living in the yamanshi prefecture in about a weeks time.. Is it hard to get to that track? I take it they have dori meetings sometimes? Would you be keen to meet up?

I know Japan is a cash society, but will a Visa card work from here, work over there? Im guessing big fee's and not many places would accept it right? Where if possible might it be used? I couldnt use one at an up garage or similar could I?

Hey, On one side you're lucky its only your log books. In my case in bringing in my soarer, i had the 12 Stacker 'Dissappear', the sun visor broken, some electronics hastily removed (bare wires, etc) and some other niggles with the transport company and wharfies.. on top of having my log books 'go'! So yeah.. just my 2 ¥en

Well what i have confirmed at this stage is A) Leaving Brissy on the 29th, arriving on the 30th of Nov.. B) Working Visa for 6 months.. C) A place to stay (Tsuru, Yamanashi) For a month or possibly more.. Which may just take me into the first/second week of January and a great time to move to tokyo to see TAS and possibly catch up with a few of you boys.
-
REDFC You organised your ticket yet?? PM Me, i'll be arriving on the 30th of Nov.. might be good to meet up and get pissed somewhere or watch some dori dori

Rezz id be more than happy to do that! At the moment i dont really have an itinerary except for staying in Tsuru for the first month or so.. After this i was planning on going somewhere else and checking it out.. Seeing as it would be so close to TAS by the time im out of Yamanashi maybe Osaka should be the next stop on my list
-
Hey guys, First of all thanks for the replies Secondly, i have booked my flight and i am soo soo keen to get on tehre now!! Im leaving on the 29th of this month.. Im really looking forward to meeting up with some Gaijins over there, especially to show us around the car scene over there.. Rezz, Dave, Lee, would you guys be up for something like this?!
-
definitley going to have to add these onto my "watchout for" list when im over there :|
-
Hey Rezz thanks for your reply. The story is, we had a girl stay with us for a homestay while she studied here (Brisbane). Now she has offered me the same option of staying with her in Japan. She lives in Tsuru in the Yamanshi prefecture roughly a few hours out of Tokyo. (I think some one mentioned they live near there?) So basically i was going for a bit of a homestay for a month.. then going travelling on my own.. Was hoping to maybe go snowboarding then checking out all the sights and sounds of Japan. Was also hoping to meet some other gaijins on the way, especially the ones who are interested in the same things as me which would be pretty cool! After i did that i was planning on staying somewhere, possibly back with my homestay, and looking for work, now that i've finally finished my TESOL course
-
Sorry, bit out of the loop here, but how did you manage work experience at a Jun Workshop?! Thats very coooool!! Either way, congratulations, you are indeed a lucky guy. `
-
Hey guys.. Would you mind another tag along? Im going to be in japan for this and it'd be sweet to go to TAS and some of the tuning shops with some other gaijins
-
sorry just hit submit accidently.. Just edited half the thread.. My bad..

Hey guys.. I think i've just about read every topic in this section and its probably been one of the best forums, info and people wise that i've come across in a while. Top work there I've got a heap of questions, but im going to try and keep them on one subject in here! Regarding visiting.. Im planning on staying roughly 3 months in Japan. I will be staying for the first month with a host family in outer tokyo. After this i plan on doing a bit of travelling via a JR rail pass all over japan.. One of the biggest drawcards for me is its cars and their totally different culture. Also the fact that on my last two trips, i didnt have any time to explore or check out what i wanted to see. Due mainly to the fact i was on a school trip and with parents prior to this. So this time, i wanna do it my way, and one of the things i really would like to see or atleast get a photo infront of, is some of their tuning houses, cars, cultural areas, and anything that i havent seen before or is different to Australia. (Read just about everything.) So, i'm keen on visiting some of the bigger name tuning shops, autobacs, up garage etc, and hopefully attending a few events. A D1 round would be very cool, and im definitely hanging out for TAS 2005! So here are my questions. Generally what are the tuning shops like? Do they sell merchandise that i can buy/use daily? Without my car there i feel a bit silly going to some of these places, so is it worth having a look at? What might i be able to pickup while there? What about events wise.. I see some of you, rezz, dave, lee have attend some? To a short term gaijin (hoping for long term stay + work), are they relatively easy to get to? I mean is there hope of me getting to some of these places without my own vehicle? And lastly.. if you were going for a few month holiday where would you go, and what you want to see? Thanking you in advance guys
