  1. Ant, I decided I wanted something nicer on the inside and newer. I drove the G35 in the states and loved it. Are you in Melbourne again??
  2. I had the same reservations about J-spec when I was looking to choose an importer. I stuck with them and can honestly say that they've been fantastic from the get go (3 weeks into the process now). Craig is very patient and answers all of my questions, even when I was asking nearly daily whether the car had been shipped yet!
  3. Holy shit - 19,000 posts?
  4. Hey Ash! Been a few good years, except for the car situation. I punished myself with an EL Falcon. How's the R31 holding up?

    I'm Back

Heya, Just thought I'd say a big hello to all at SAU Vic... I haven't been reading the forum since the middle of 2005 when I sold my (slightly damaged) R33. It's nice to see so many of the old faces still around, as well as so many new. Might see you around in my 350GT Coupe (I don't care what you say, it's still a Skyline! ) when it arrives in a few weeks. -Max
  7. My most hated car... is the most evil car of all time: The TOYOTA TERCEL. It doesn't know what it is... is it a 4WD? a wagon? a people mover? And it is exceedingly ugly. They should all be run off the road.
  8. Sorry to Hijack, but did you just raise the price by $50 vs. your previous post?
  9. That looks like a great little mod if it works! I would investigate but haven't got my car yet
  10. Hi all, As per the topic, how did you get your car from the dock to the compliancer? Just curious as to the method (tow truck, dealer plates etc), and how much. -Max
  11. I recognise that nothing exactly like this exists, hence my interest in seeing if something can be developed. Many overseas suppliers are willing to work with you if you are willing to pay for it (which I'm sure people would if it was a good product) or get some volume going. I've done a fair bit of research so far into what can be obtained. The GPS software can often be chosen. I've seen Route 66 (Nokia) and TomTom software (which I prefer) being used. The systems can also have DVB-T (our digital TV standard) tuner inbuilt and will output to both PAL & NTSC. Region free DVD doesn't seem to be a problem either. The bluetooth is an unknown quantity but is likely to have improved over time. The main issue I have come across so far is getting an external IR port on new models & have remotes that will control the mapping software instead of needing the touchscreen. If I can overcome these barriers, I should have access to something which will cover the remaining features as mentioned.
  12. Hehe, that's the point. Hence why I want to know what people would want from such a system! I've already outlined what I want in my original post. I think it is all achievable except for the factory nav button interface (unless that could be done via an IR link or something - Chris?). I'm now after feedback, whether I've missed something or messed up in understanding etc.
  13. Frank, That's precisely the type of unit I am trying to develop the spec for. I want to make sure I've covered all the desirable bases before I see if I can get it.
  14. Chook, Yes, that's not unlike the type of setup used on the V35. Unfortunately it still needs a separate DVD player, GPS, doesn't have integrated bluetooth etc. I'm really trying to develop the spec for a single, easy to use, (relatively) easy to install unit which covers most bases. Andy, I have been following the English text conversion thread with interest. What I'm referring to is a unit which retains the functionality of the stock trip/info computer, but becomes a single solution for the AUX in which has all of the desirable functionality of an ideal audio/visual system (i.e. DVD/DivX/MP3/Bluetooth etc) which the V35 doesn't have. As I understand it, the GPS and TV simply cannot be converted, so an external solution is required for those aspects. I am merely trying to retain the display but add all the other features. Maybe I haven't been clear enough in the purpose behind this thread?
  15. Yes, I considered Car PC etc but decided against it. I am looking for a different, all-in-one solution as described. I'm hoping it can become something that all V35/M35 etc owners can easily use, not just for myself. The point of this one is work similarly to Chris', but with a different unit running the extra features (i.e. still using the stock audio, trip comp etc.)
  16. Thanks Rianto, I have seen what Chris does and know it covers most of those bases. However, as you point out, he is only in QLD so you need to send your car to him or send him to your car . That doesn't help when the Garmin & Blaupunkt units he uses are also so pricey. His setup also requires multiple remotes and boxes to be installed. I'm trying to find an alternative and work out what would be desirable for such a unit in a single, integrated setup.
  17. Hi everyone, It's pretty well established that the stock V35 TV/Nav can't be converted to run locally. The remaining solutions are to replace the factory TV with a single/double DIN unit or install a plug in unit which uses the factory display. My question relates to the latter proposition. Suppose you had the perfect plug-in box, which could be hidden away in the glovebox, what would you want? My thoughts for features are as follows: - FM/AM tuner - CD/DVD/MP3/MP4/WMV/DivX/Xvid playback - Analog/Digital (DVB-T) TV Tuner - GPS - Bluetooth for phone (with external mic for car installation) - USB/SD reader - CD/DVD changer control - Audio out (4ch + sub) + optical - Video out (NTSC/PAL) - Audio/Video input (at least one) - Reversing camera input/sensor - Remote control (with external IR sensor which can be installed in car) Any other ideas? Maybe an interface with factory keys?
