Hi guys Jared here,
Finally got my R33 about a month ago so you will probably be seeing more of me now i do. First I've got a question for every one.
Has anyone ever had trouble with their R33 starting & idling when it's hot? I first came across this problem about a week ago when I had been driving for long enough for the engine to warm right up, went to start it a while later & it was a bit reluctant, gave the throttle a touch & away it went. Since then it has become worse & it seems to be really difficult on a hot day like yesterday if you go to start it 5 to 20 minutes after it was last used. I have to give the throttle a good prod to get it going & then hold it open a tiny bit for about another 5 to 10 seconds before it stablises. If I shut it off & go to start again straight away, no problem. Equally if I start it cold i don't need to touch a thing, so I'm thinking heat-soak may be inducing the problem. The only other time it has cut out was yesterday after a 2km hill climb & it stalled when i pulled up at the top to turn off.
I have a hunch that it may be the idle air control valve either shorting out, or going open circuit & once it gets a little bit of cooler intake air it starts working again. I did also change the coolant last weekend but I checked the air bleeder this morning & it was filled to the top with coolant. It still goes as hard as usual though when the problem occurs.
It would be appreciated if anyone can either confirm this as being a problem or give an alternative.
