FS: VL Calais Turbo, Blueprint, Pics - Gold Coast
Bozza replied to Bozza's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
More pics, except for boot: The boot has a few little rusty marks on the bottom, nothing serious though. Umm I don't have much in terms of "cash adjustment"... Plus, i'm more for swapping for a basic sedan/wagon-sized family car... i'm working on another VLT as a side project, so having another turbo/performance car doesn't really suit. -

rb20det with auto gearbox - any good?
Bozza replied to Bozza's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
so, it's not safe to have 40*C air in your plenum?? i know in general, hot air is never good for the car, but i'm just wondering, will it blow up parts or shit if i run it hard thru gears? Thanx -
G'day, Due to a tight (student) budget, i'm NOT wanting to covert my auto n/a VL commodore to manual when i put in an rb20det I have planned for it... My Q is: Is the R32 GTS-T auto box heaps worse (in terms of performance) than a manual setup? I've heard that if it's not turbo, there's a big difference, but autos in turbo cars have advantages such as being able to hold boost through gear changes, etc.. Cheers

Hi, I'm looking at doing an RB20DET conversion into an n/a VL berlina, and am concerned about the existing diff... will it fit up to the RB20DET? The N/A VL diff is 3.45:1, non-LSD I've had someone tell me the VL Turbo diffs (3.45:1 LSD) are heaps better and go harder.. will one of these bolt up to the rb20? Also the rear brakes on the N/A are drum brakes, which i've been told are shit, should i get a complete diff / axle / disc brake package maybe?? P.S. Prices on suggested diffs would be appreciated if u can get em! Cheers
-
ummm yeah well the cost of freight will defeat the purpose kinda thanx neway

Hey, I'm after either an RB20DET front cut or equivalent engine package (gearbox, engine, computer and wiring loom). Need to be in Brisbane / Gold Coast / Far North NSW Coast Cheers
-
I'm soon to buy an RB20DET auto half cut and putting it all into an n/a VL Berlina. Now I was wondering if I just leave the n/a VL diff and it will connect fine to everything or buy an R32 GTST diff or another diff? Also, how much if i need to buy another diff? Cheers, BOZZA P.S.: N/A VL diff: 25 spline 2-pinion 3.45:1 RB32 GTST diff: (insert specs here!)

Tried SCS imports, all they had to offer me was an RB25DE auto front cut, not the turbo... but i kinda want the turbo Also tried to call Mr GTR, but no luck... i'll see if i can get him on email. As for adelaidejap, seems like they've got just about everything - only problem is it's about the same price as it is here, so by the time i ship it up it'll cost too much. Now the problem is trying to FIND the motor I'm looking for in Brisbane or the Coast!!! Cheers
-
So, so far we've got "SCS", which i still don't know what it stands for Locally (Gold Coast) i've checked Rollin Imports (www.japparts.com.au) - they seem to be OK any others? this will hopefully be helpful for a few ppl. Cheers

Howdy, Just wondering what is the maximum boost without major strains (e.g. for drags/time trials) you should set an RB25DET with std. auto gearbox? I'm thinking of getting the turbosmart boost control switch to boost from std. to (just below) maximum - (I've heard the std. turbo's on the RB25DET aren't that flash - might consider getting a bigger Garrett later down the track) PS> If this post has already been done, please refer me to it. Cheers
-
You reckon? I heard to definately go for the half cut, simply cause you've got the extra bits, and wiring/connecting this to that is a lot easier. How much for just the engine and loom ya reckon, if i was to pick up an auto box from someone here?
-
Niz180: where's SCS? How do i get in touch with em? Dave: Yeah but the time you pay for postage u might as well buy local i reckon - plus if it ***s up you can't just take it up the street to get em to have a look. Also, I need auto cause it's going into an already auto. VL commodore - too much farting around to convert it to manual

Hi, sorry if this is rehashing on old posts, but i hope that someone else is wanting to ask the same questions as these! I'm in need of an RB25DET 1/2 cut auto, and am finding it difficult to avoid getting ripped off. For eg, I rang up a place on the GC asking for the RB25det 1/2 cut they had advertised in a mag for $3300, but then they wanted $4000 over the phone. I reckon this is a rip off considering that VIC & NSW importers are selling em around the $3200 mark (from what i've heard) Any ideas? Anyone know of any "contacts" that i can get in touch with?? Cheers.
