the thing about GAS and turbos is that you have to run the gas through the turbo and the intercooler which makes a very funny explosion tank in case of a backfire (has happened many times before) Gas needs to be developed more into a multi injector system that works well before it will be a good conversion IMHO. -

are you using a power fc ? if you are check the map tracer and tell me if your moving between cells - if you are check the timing values of those cells make them all the same for the first 3x3 - 15 deg should be a good start. -

I have experienced the same with the walbro. I have had 2 in my car and both were the same. Last time i had the car on the dyno i was running a flow / pressure test on the return line and found the flow went down to .2 litres per minute back to the tank on full boost. These pumps are not very good at holding pressure they can do it for a short while but lose there flow. I recently had to turn the boost down to 9psi because the pump started failing. got myself a 044 last night to chuck in. Apparently these pumps are more of a non high pressure pump - they can flow high HP on non efi systems that dont require alot of pressure. So for me walbro will make a nice pre pump for the 044 -

hahhahaa He supplied the turbo - i just fitted it. I know people who have had some really good results from these turbo's.. they aint too bad at all.

where are you ? if your around sydney / newcastle area and your interested in getting it tuned i am tuning a R33 Power FC on sat arvo on a guys car that i installed a KKR turbo on last weekend and will have the tuning gear (power fc laptop software and wide band sensor) Let me know if your interested in getting it done

I would like to add somethign to this thread. I first got my skyline 5 years ago and when running stock boost i had no problems. I then upped the boost and got the missfire. Then i gapped the plugs to .6 and off i went. Car went great! Band aid fix for stuffed coils you say ?? 5 years later and after 10's of thousands of $$$ spend on my setup GUESS WHAT ? i still use the SAME coils. So 5 years later i am still using the same coils and i am able to run them on 1.1 gap when before with the rb25det i had to run .6 .7 for it to be right. I think it has more to do with the boost pressure AND air flow going through the engine - it might have something to do with smaller turbo's pushing high boost without much air flow causing the issue. IF my coils were stuffed then why are they STILL running now with a extra 150rwkw on the standard 1.1 gap ?

Sounds like your engine is cooked. head gasket issue most likely. get it tested -
a good tuner will suggest and tune whats best for the customer. microtech in r34 would destroy the car... did they hack the loom or was it a plug in?

Usually they are very bad on fuel but the newer ones are much better then what they were in the past. You wont get one to run as good as a power fc. I dont care what anyone says.

lol I drive 317 rwkw to work every day 130km round trip and dont have any issues. its all about your attitude and experience. Ride the boost wave - dont wipe yourself out.. hehe

was on the way back from qld and when i got to coffs one of the rocker clips that hold the rocker into place the bolt stripped off and the only thing i could do was wrap electrical tape around the bolt and screw it back it. It lasted months lol -

oh and you can save your maps to a file on the laptop and you can view the maps anytime using the software without being anywhere near the car. -

There are a few differences. on the software you can run a map trace and do a power run which will highlight exactly where on the map it went too and it can also highlight different colours for knock etc so that way you know exactly where you need to change the values (while it is still highlighted) and it makes tuning much much easier. You can set values that are not available through the H/C like the VCT and locking the computer... I have tuned a few power fc's with the hand controller and its hard. you have to run a map trace then do the power run then try and remember what part of the map it went to then you have to go back back then go into the map move to the area's and change the values which can take ages... much more time consuming. after a while you develop easy ways to tune with the hand controller but nothing is better then using the software. When the software was first available to me i did not like it very much but now i have tuned many with the software and will only use the h/c if i have to. -
I know a guy who can make r32 computers work with r33's re-program them and add a extra board for VCT. Maybe you can make a external device to turn on VCT ? it wont be hard. its just a trigger at a certain RPM. why cant we make something up ?

Wish i could help with the auto learning part of the stock ecu - all i know is that it is not something you can rely on. As for the computer that is locked - then your talking about a computer that has been re-mapped and does not change no matter what. Stock computers have knock sensors which retard the timing if the engine gets detonation which will change the tune (not sure if the computer learns that its pinging and keeps the ign maps retarted for a while or not) As for a after market computer side of things they have all kinds of corrections. so you can set the map to run more timing when the intake temps are down and run less when they are higher and also run richer or leaner on different temps etc etc. A power FC for rb25 only really has correction for water temp so the tuner needs to compensate the tune for these conditions and it mainly only helps with cold starts so you gotta compensate the tune a bit which can be hard... The microtech may be a shit computer but it has all kinds of corrections you can play with. anyway the moral to the story is.. your a dickhead if your hammering your car when its really hot and your asking it to blow up when you do. good computers like autronic / motec etc etc have all kinds of compensation settings that can be tuned for those hot days etc etc.

you would need to leave the car with someone that can start it every month and take it for a quick spin around the block. safest way.

they are a difference ecu. they are both dis continued. infact there would be many less r34 ones then r33 ones so sell it and buy a 33 one and make a profit

i am not asking which car is better i am just wondering the cost of the setup. I am not interested in getting into any arguements about what is better. Can the ls1 gearbox's handle the power ? will they break easy and if so how much more would it cost to get a box to handle the job? and how much is a exhaust system worth ?
