Im a bit worried to take my car for a drive down there - the VIC epa wont like it very much. Can they touch me if my car is fully legal in NSW if i go there for a visit ? or should i just leave it at home and fly ?

dont assume that your engine has stock compression ratio. chances are its not stock because it does not have stock pistons. check it and tell me what it is

come to think of it - my head has been shaved twice and the block has been shaved twice (to get good surface) so it should be around the early 8's im thinking

Sounds to me that its not tuned properly. change your fuel filter and plugs and gap them to .8. You really need to get a wide band air fuel ratio meter on it and check how it is running to fix these kinda problems. IF you wanted to try adding 4deg of timing over all and see if it changes the situation at all - check the power fc faq it should tell you how to do it in there from memory you go to settings then ign/inj then change the timing to +4 (remember that every time you turn the car off this setting gets reset back to 0) if its heaps better then you need to really put a wide band on it and retune the whole ecu ALSO what size are the wheels on your car? and what size were they on the old car? bigger wheels make the car feel doggy - dont forget that. what compression ratio is the engine ?? do a compression test and tell me what the reading is.

UPDATE !! I passed the noise test today!!! just scraped in by 1db got 87db at 3500rpm and 89db at 4000rpm So now its smooth sailing to my engineers certificate !! just got to brace the huge hole i got the 3" intake pipe going through and take it back and pay my money!

sweet. i wanted low compression so i can put some big boost into it.. should be able to see 30psi on pump fuel im hoping... i could shave the head a mm or 2 though couldnt i ?

Hey Can you work out the ACL one please? i got ACL pistons on in mine and when i do a compression test it sits at 120 in each cyl. the numbers on the top are RA9608x 0.50 RIB 0.10 SE Id like to know how low it is - i dont know if these are VL turbo ones or not - they do sit right up to the top of the block though. here is some pics

it depends on your setup. if your car makes the same decent power all the way to redline then red line it... in some cases (if your talking about racing changes) it is better to change at 5900 or around that to get more out of your power band. get your car on the dyno and let the dyno tuners test where your power and torque drops off and tell you when its a good time to change to get back into your power band.

HICAS is the 4 wheel steering system. the system does a quick check when you turn the car on then the light turns off when everything checks out OK You should only worry about it when the light STAYS on. then there is something wrong. I believe HICAS turns on at over 40ks an hour - it might be 60 i cant remember so it does not work when parking its only there to make the ride feel better and you get that nice skyline feel when cruising around corners.

the way i see it is that they are 15 years old. id rather a new pump personally.

wtf.. first you say that that un screwing it lets you run less boost then you say if you have it closed it runs less boost.. WTF ?? If you unscrew it then it will run less boost.
