  1. That was pretty much our experience in 2008 - not that we were complaining being new to it all and the having the fear of 2007 CAMS put into us from everyone before leaving. We stuck to the tyre rules and were really struggling with traction for the last two days - scratching our heads how others were keeping up the pace. Its a tough issue for the organisers, but at the end of the day if its an enjoyable event thats all I care about - for now.
  2. End of the day it is the other competitors right as unfortunate as it is. I guess people just wouldnt normally expect to be pulled up for something like a gearbox - I personally think a 34 box might have been quicker. We found the 5 speed was a bit slow to get going in the tight stuff with standard diff ratios. Biggest pity is most of the cars there would probably get disqualified under scruitiny.... surely there were a few 32's getting around with 4wd controllers given the weather.
  3. I hope paulR32GTSt isn't taken... edit: sorry paulR32TBR-TRCS
  4. Why not ey build me one while your at it Bens. GTR's cost too bloody much. So thats 4 just need 6 more for a custom spec with potato scooper front bar to make some money back on the event.
  5. You could enter a say a "Racepace R34 GTR 5 speed"? - surely they have chucked more than 10 5-speeds in various 34's. Anyway - im glad the rules have relaxed a bit since the CAMS days as a 2.5" or whatever exhaust would have been a buzz kill - but maybe a little too much?
  6. Yeah I woulda done it anyway if the car was ready Looking forward to high country - was so bloody happy to hear about that one.
  7. Ah makes sense. One I am looking at does have longitudinal autofeed so ill see how I go, otherwise ill have to make up a jig to help cure my crappy tapping attempts!
  8. Well done anyway Snowy sounds like you know what your doing with the tiller and carrying four leaf clovers. Hope the repair bill isn't too serious. Kinda glad we didn't make it down for this years carnage would be frustrating forking out so much to deal with slippery roads.
  9. Tell me about it - tools are bloody expensive. Think I paid $40-50 for a sutton 1/8 bspt tap the other day. Can't wait to get my hands on a lathe - more dead ends today trying to find various things if I add up all the time it takes searching I should have bought one a long time ago. Could be a worry though - rather than running around trying to find cheap fittings I will be running around trying to find expensive tools instead. Excuse the newbie question as I have never actually used a lathe - but I am interested in how you guys go about tapping internal taper threads like NPT & BSPT? I guess with CNC you can program the rate that it pushes the tap into the hole and when to stop, otherwise manually just a slow speed, skill in winding the tool in and a hand on the stop button?
  10. Have you seen the sticky - big read but some good info in there: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Go...ils-t22458.html Royal purple, Motul 8100, Castrol Edge (ex Formula R) etc etc - just make sure appropriate weights for the application and they should keep the dreaded bearing knock away.
  11. My girlfriend says you are a bad influence Scott Very good plan. I have a strong policy of buying quality these days even if it stretches the budget at the beginning - ends up cheaper and far less painful in the long run. http://www.factoryhub.com.au/ looks to be a good starting point. Thinking CNC is going to be the way to go for the mill in the long run. Going to sit down and work out exactly what I am going to use them for down the track then go out and visit a few second hand dealers next week.
  12. Sounds like you had the perfect upbringing Eric haha. My old man was well into electronics but never racecars unfortunately - so never had access to such lovely machines. That is a great price for the lathe - convincing finance should be a breeze. Yeah I enjoy it and would get much more satisfaction making the parts myself. Might even be able to sell a few bits here and there to help with the outlay. I can see myself moving away from my current career to something like this down the track so could very well be a stepping stone. Once I have a mill, lathe and a good Tig welder I can sink my teeth into some real projects. Appreciate the pointers - cheers.
  13. Sick of running around trying to find silly little fittings, bungs etc and thinking about buying a mini lathe and mill so I can make my own. So what have you bought and how is it? Anything to watch out for? Looking at ones made by these guys: http://www.sieg-scandinavia.com/ I see there are also a few that transform between a mill and a lathe - I guess these will probably end up a bit of a compromise but might be a cost effective solution for light use. Also - where do you guys get your raw materials from e.g. alloy billets etc
  14. I am a self proclaimed dumpling connoisseur and Shanghai is the worst dumpling joint in the state - all my poor uni student / dropkick friends rave about it so I had to try it. The dumplings were just pulled frozen out of a bag, boiled and served on a dirty plate with sub standard chilli sauce You could get them in any asian grocery and cook at home. Shark Fin Inn (not House) Shui Mai, Shark Fin dumpling, Scallop dumpling, Prawn dumpling etc etc etc.... can't get enough of it but nobody go there because its hard enough to get a table as it is.
  15. I dont see any mention of a paper clip or tea towel in the question - and if there is who cares - doesnt mean you should treat people with such contempt just because you are hiding behind a keyboard. I am on here as much as you guys but it doesnt ruin my day if someone asks a silly question. Maybe he just wants to hang and talk about shit that interests him? No crime in that. Dont think I could be any more stepped back if I tried mate. All I see is someone asking a legitimate question regardless of how mundane some might find it. He posted in the right section, he was polite. The OP didn't ask that - and it makes you look foolish to rewrite the question in such a way. A run of the mill gtst does not have 30k spent on it? I would see 30k as an almost complete track prep if you do lots of the work yourself - leave out a cage to save weight and it will be a killer. While it may shock some - a stock GTR, NUR or otherwise, is actually pretty slow, and in standard form likely to blow motors due to oiling problems on the track. Turn up the boost on those NUR -7 turbos for a bit of extra poke and you are asking for more problems. If I were sticking money on which one would tear up the track day in day out I know where my money would be... ZW33 - go ahead mate - buy it, spend 30k on it - learn a heap about it, increase your knowledge and ignore people with nothing to contribute to discussion, and nothing better to do than flame.
  16. Wow this place really is in a downward spiral. How on earth are people expected to benefit from the collective knowledge of these forums and the people on them, when they come in here, most likely already having done their own calculations, looking for some real world experiences with highly modified 33 GTS-T's - only to get shot down in flames as a "newb". He didn't come in here sayin dis n dat yo wot man cuz - maybe a little green in the way the question was asked but man - lighten up or just don't post. Your big flame posts clog up the database just as much if not more than people asking green questions. I have seen some really highly modified R33 GTS25t's, handling really well, gobs of power, only major problem is traction in comparison to GTR's mostly off the line - but hey their is a whole planet of people devoted to making RWD work well, so do what you can, buy the best tyres you can get and it will be competitive.
  17. We see two or three dumped around Leakes and Derrimut road every week. I think someone just nicks a car from either Hoppers or Werribee station on an almost daily basis to get them out to their estate. I would never park anything near those stations from what I have seen!
  18. Mate sorry can't be 100% certain as I have never done it myself - but it seems like they might bolt straight up: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/R3...+gtr+brakes+gts You could ask around in the braking and suspension area for a definitive answer.
  19. Sorry I thought that is what I said? "facilitates live programming of the existing hardware" and "These ECU's could always be flashed with new maps, just not on the fly" Is it something different altogether - i.e. complete replacement for some of the existing ECU hardware?
  20. Right - yeah I have always wondered how relevant AIT was with tuning. I installed a Microtech LT8 on one of my old ET pulsars, added an AIT sensor but never needed to add any correction as inlet temps never got too out of control despite the relatively huge amount of boost I was running. Right so does the standard GTR CAS just contain an 360 optical trigger disc & photo diode? What is different about the chopper disc - 6 slot? (edit; just looked it up yeah cool - simlar to what the pulsar had a slot for each cylinder inside the dizzy)
  21. The Nistune "chip" from what I understand just facilitates live programming of the existing hardware inside the ECU's it works with (r32 gtr, z32 etc). These ECU's could always be flashed with new maps, just not on the fly - so you would need to adjust the map, flash the ECU, run on the dyno, flash the map and so on - not very nice. All the hardware you use to achieve a certain power level - AFM's, injectors, fuel pumps etc all run on pretty standard voltages, so as long as they are within the ranges that the ECU can read or output, there is nothing to say that you can't achieve 2gagillion kilowatts Where the ViPec and other full replacements come in with is additional features and flexibility. Quite often though this comes with incompatibilities / quirks with standard components - CAS for example as discussed above. ViPec from what I have seen are trying hard to make it as plug and play as possible so kudos to them - no doubt the issue discussed above will be corrected with a software update at some point soon. I personally really don't like having to chop / splice and add / remove sensors from an engine where a plug and play alternative is available.
  22. Reason why you need the restrictor is because bush bearing turbos (like stock 32r's) like more oil - BB turbos dont need anywhere near as much and it causes problems if there is too much
  23. So what do they actually do to highflow them?? Enlargen the inlets I guess Sounds like a compromise to me - better off going with something that was engineered to do its job from the factory - the yen is pretty good at the moment too I just got 6 x sard 700cc's from Jesse Streeter for about $600 delivered. Edit: rb25 injectors do however look a bit more expensive than ones suitable for the 26
