  1. Before you get shot down in flames for asking a question asked many times before... get a non turbo on your P's, then when you get your full license sell it and buy a Turbo - the only way to go.
  2. Hmmm good option for a race shell if your going to go right through it all anyway
  3. My setup for the past few years. 1989 R32 GTR - Unopened standard motor - Standard injectors - Standard AFMs - HKS GT-SS kit - HKS dumps - HKS cam gears - Nismo fuel pump - PowerFC - JustJap front pipes - High flow cat - Trust PEII cat-back - Fake woodgrain cup holder Tuned to 291.4 rwkw on the Racepace dyno @ ~16psi BP98 Motor has finally spun a big end bearing after almost 21 years, Racepace stage 1 motor on the way.
  4. When you say the plugs were wet - were they fouled with fuel, or were they wet with water? Run through the basics air, fuel, spark, compression. Air = your problems dont sound like a problem with air but check all intake piping is connected properly, there are no forgotten rags blocking intercoolers etc Fuel = while the car is running you should be able to feel the injector pulsing, you could also check fuel pressure if you have the gear - would recommend a mechanic for this Spark = you really need a spark tester for this these days - there are old methods but can potentially cause damage to the ignition module - mechanic would have one Compression = compression test - again you need the gear Once you have narrowed it down to one of the basics above, or none of the above, you can proceed to the next steps of diagnosis. Not sure about restrictors for GT30 - I know first hand the GT2860 series have built in restrictors in the oil inlet - if you have a photo upload it, but worth checking with the experts - give GCG or similar a call.
  5. I noticed you have a 32 GTS-t? - what car are you wanting to put it on, as it's a GTR turbo (i.e. 1 of 2 on an Rb26) will be too small for an Rb20, not to mention it won't bolt on
  6. Bluey/white smoke means oil and possibly water is getting in to the combustion chamber / exhaust - never good unfortunately... Off the top of my head could be piston rings, a cracked head or blown turbo seals... A few things you can check: - Take the pipes off the turbo compressor and check for excessive oil - stuffed turbo, could also be coming from the exhaust side - a bit tricker to get the dump pipe off but a potential source. This can also cause problems with fuelling as air can move between the intake and exhaust - Get a compression test done on the engine - Check the water in the radiator, if it looks milky/oily you are most likely looking at a cracked head

  8. Have you pulled the plugs out to have a look? Black smoke yeah?
  9. So Matt what was the final word on the harmonic balancer - did you end up giving racepace a call? Just in the process of getting parts together for my own Racepace motor. Not going to be quite as wild as yours, staying with 2.6, new N1 block & 33 crank, Racepace rods & pistons, tomei pump, N1 water etc. Also going for that 9L sump extension like yours - was good to get a geeze at it from your pics.
  10. bump - still for sale - Standard R32 GTR ECU (9/89) - 2 x Standard R32 GTR turbos (9/89) - see pics - 1 x Standard R33 GTR turbo - see pics shiny clean one - Standard R32 GTR dumps with heat sheilds - see pics - Standard R32 GTR cam gears - Garret exhaust housing - Standard R32 GTR brakes - front (4 piston) and rear (2 piston) sumitomo calipers with discs/pads
  11. Sorry would prefer to keep it all together
  12. Stone caught in the tyre tread? Had this many times before.

  14. Yeah I guess the theory is if the cylinder isnt firing it isnt going to be loading up on the crank, less loading on the bad bearing and so less noise. I gave it another kick in the pants this morning from dead cold, with no 6 coil disconnected and it still made the noise although somewhat more muffled. Going to try disconnecting the #6 injector tonight from dead cold and see how I go. God I really do hope its just an injector dying - the one on #6 was actually flowing a little higher than the other 5 in cleaning/testing before I put them in. #6 plug is perfect however, no leaning or fouling.
  15. Cheers Scott - yeah I have read in my research of people with a similar sound running for a few months without a problem until they fail properly, problem ending up being a big end bearing. Wont bother starting it again and get it to someone that knows that they are doing! I wish it was an easy exercise to drop the sump on a 26 - have never attempted it myself but I think regardless its an engine out.
  16. Got a bit of a quote from Racepace a while back before Ben sold up - $15k for the whole shabang N1 block, 33 crank etc etc out and back in - wonder if Chris has adjusted the price structure!! End of the day this is going to be the best route - was going to do it eventually but thought I may as well have a bit of fun with this mill until the inevitable happened.
  17. I just went out and had another listen - it really isn't like any of the others I looked up on youtube. They are all BANG BANG BANG BANG, this is nowhere near as loud. Will have a play with the injectors tomorrow - this was my initial guess. Duncan - who does oil analysing up your way?
  18. Yeah its funny how it does it for about 1 second when first start dead cold only. This is what lead me to believe it was a bearing as the oil would have all drained out. Its not like a normal injector ticking noise - its quite audible within the cabin, quite metalic sounding. RE: Lifter noise - forgive my ignorance but the rb26 being a bucket and shim valve setup - are there any lifters??
  19. Hmm well I would definitely love to be wrong. It has been running like this for months - probably a good few thousand kms. Duncan - it does get louder from 2500 to 3500 but then the noise seems to go away. Dave - I did grab each injector while it was running and #6 didn't seem any different - but I will investigate further - I guess disconnecting #6 injector wont really help me any further with my diagnosis - would need to move it to another cylinder. Of course I threw out my old R32 injectors over the weekend - some of them were leaking but could have come up with at least one good one.
  20. Alright those unfortunate to have heard this noise before come and confirm what I think I have diagnosed. A few months back my rb26 started making a bit of a ticking noise at startup, that would trail off after about a second (read oil getting to said spun big end bearing). It also started making the same noise between about 2500 and 3500. Power seemed fine, thought it was a loose belt or something. I have been trying to get it ready for the track so have spent a bit of time investigating. Today I pulled the wire off coil 6 and it seems the noise has gone away. Car was warm by the time I had played around with it so going to wait until tomorrow morning and start it again, see if the noise is still gone. I heard a pretty good explanation of the actual sound the other day - like when you sit a playing card in the spokes of a push bike - pretty close to that. So - does it sound like a spun bearing to you?
  21. double post - delete me
  22. I could never sell my gtr. Other cars will come and go, but nothing could replace that god damn money pit - worth every penny though. Bana is definitely on to something - more than a car.
  23. Steering wheel sold pending payment Suspension sold pending payment Solenoid sold pending payment
