Yeah I can sympathise with you there, I did all the work except the wiring, I had to get my mechanic to do that and even then I had to help him. -

Used the RB20 gearbox, not sure if the ECU is getting speed or not, any idea on how to get the tacho going? -
Definitly will bring my R30 coupe if I have it registered by then.

I'd be inclined to go with this story. Have you found out what the other guy has said yet? In the pics it looks like he was trying to turn, unless you had pulled out far enough to be blocking the road, it would be very hard to imagine why he's heading towards the curb.

The L20ET was a six cylinder mate. Still would be hard to fit a RB head to though.

An R30 Silhouette? have you got any pics or information?

I have done the RB20 in R30 converson twice now and never had any problems with sump clearence. I have read somewhere (not sure if its true cause both my cars have been HR30's L20ET) that L20ET and L24E engine mounts are different, maybe that has something to do with it? Under new legislation in NSW any engine conversion has to be engineered, and as Ghostrider said if you have a smash the insurance companies will most certaintly void your coverage, plus you were technically driving an illegal car so in some cases you might get charged (especially with all this stupid anti hoon sh#t going on at the moment).

An RB20DET bolts straight onto a L20ET crossmember same as the gearbox mounts straight onto the gerbox mounts, you will however have to cut the tailshaft and also cut a bigger whole where the gearstick comes up into the cabin as the RB gearbox is longer than the standard L20 affair. I have done this conversion twice now and suits the R30 chassis well. All in all putting the RB20 is a sh#tload easier than getting an engineering degree which is what your going to need to fit an RBhead onto a L20 bottom as they are completely different. As boof mentioned there is heaps of stuff in the forums about so give it a search. another thing you can do if you want to retain the L series is get a L28 bottom end and bolt the L20 head and turbo on and away you go, alternatively you can put a L24 (much more common) but the L28 would be better He was talking about a L20ET, Straight 6 2L Turbo SOHC, standard in a HR30 Skyline, Made from 1981 to 1984? maybe 85.

Also I forgot to ask how to get the speed to my ecu? -
Hey people, just finished my conversion and am starting to work out the little bugs and also make it look standard for engineer blue slip etc. Any idea on how to get the tacho to work with the RB20 (previous motor L20ET)? And my speedo isn't reading correctly plus it seems to have developed a wobble, any ideas?
-
Ok after reading the whole I am pretty keen to do this to my RB20DET, what mitsu coil packs should I be looking out for, what leads, is there anything else I will need and should I get the ECU tuned for this mod or does it work fine in standard trim?

Dr30 > Z31 Compatability
r30kansai replied to datto_boy's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
No I was sorta on a budget when I did it, the only reason I replaced them was because my right hand caliper had seized and I couldn't find any R30 with disc rears, as the majority of them were drum except the hatch's. When I save up a bit more cash I will definately get the ventilated discs though. -
Hey people, just wondering whether or not it is a smart idea to cut out a hole big enough to put the magnet of the speaker through in my doors. I have taken 2 pics and circled the area that needs butchering to make these fit. If you can't tell by the photos it is an R30 coupe so it is pillarless, I don't know if cutting this little bit out will ruin the structural integrity?

Hey guys, I gotta set of front R32 GTST brakes that im going to put on my R30, but as you can see in the pics attached they are in pretty shocking condition ie rust. Is there anything I can soak them in to clean them up? or any other ideas? I am going to repaint them so I don't care if I strip the paint.
