it is the pressure in the radiator that stops most of the boiling. Anti boil has an additive , like glycol or something , which raises the boiling point slightly , depending on the mix. Cheers ken

The hissing sound is probably normal pod filter induction or at the worst a vacuum line is off or split. Just that you are looking and have suddenly heard what has been there all along. Besides , a blown head gasket does not make a hissing noise , it causes the engine to run rough on startup ( as I said on the phone ) or blows water out of the radiator while it is running or a LOT of bubbles will appear ( some are normal ) Cheers Ken

Ohh and drain the water , or get c red to do and stick some new coolant in. The reason it boils is that without the cap pressure the water will boil at 100deg C Your car should run normally at about 90 deg C and the 13 or 15 lb cap will raise the boiling point to about 120deg C. this is why when you open the cap if it's in good nick after driving it , the water will suddenly boil , cos ya dropped the boiling point down to normal. As yours has no pressure , it will boil easy. Cheers Ken

Troy , stop being so paranoid and worrying about the worst case scenario. As I said on the phone , it is probably the rad cap has lost pressure and allowing the water out of the overflow. The murky colour is because you have probably boiled the water when it stopped and it's like giving the block a hot enema , all sorts of shit will come out. Drive it home tonight , take it easy and don't use the aircond. Get a new cap in the morning from Auto one , Marlows , Coventry's , whatever. It's only a cap and the same as dozens of others.
