  1. Yeh it does seem that way nowadays....
  2. Cheers Simon! Im sure you will see it. It will have to be one of those days when there arent any cops to be seen for miles! Yeh the 1 bar is pretty crazy. Im not sure what boost its even going to make when its fully on song with the overboost valve locked up. Hopefully nothing too stupid like 30+psi. Well tonight we re did the egt modules and put them inside the car, in the glove box to be specific. It was a shit load of mucking around to get them in there, but its done and working. Which im happy with, though I must admit, sparkies must be just brimming with patience, because it took forever and it was a carnt! I cannot stand wiring. Anyway, its all done now, just needs to be tidied up after the ecu goes back in behind the kick panel. So hopefully tomorrow nothing goes wrong and it all just does what its supposed to do
  3. Weve done it to our race car. Our radiator sits out in front more cause of its size. We just made up an ally plate to goes back over and bolts down eachside, so its removable. So go for it! Cut the bitch out!
  4. lol the 1 bar was free revs. Not driving. It runs like shit as soon as it tried to boost whilst driving. Tomorrow afternoon at 2pm I gotta head over to Mercury and get it tuned!
  5. Yeh it does. Its just not expected when you are used to turbo spool/whine. It is just crazy loud in person.
  6. Should be a very nice all rounder when this is all done!
  7. Wikipedia to the rescue! God I love that site.
  8. I didnt mean to be negative about your choice if it came across that way. Just wanted to share my exp with the matter. It maybe me, but on the track I couldnt tell the difference. The other possible issue is if you run bigger cams with more lift, you just need to be aware of your piston to valve clearance. We had the 9:1 CPs,1.2mm HG and 10.2mm lift and we were around .120" or slightly less. We went from a gcg china exhaust manifold that cracked after every second race meet to a 6boost mani and we picked up something like 300rpm spool and made more power on the same boost. But we also tried greddy inlet manifold and currently have a plasmaman and we picked up abit of down low power from the that switch. It was the manifold changes that I felt made the most difference, atleast on the dyno and on the track in comparison to the slightly higher CR. Lol at the moment we are just about to switch over to a gtr inlet/throttle bodies. So we will be able to see what difference that may make too. But everyone is different, you or others may notice things I dont or cant. When your done and out racing you will be able to see for yourself. At the end of the day so long as you make the power you want and you get the response your chasing thats all that counts. Doesnt really matter how you get it! Hopefully it will be enough to help you win!
  9. So there was a blow out from the discharge port. The aviation goop I used (loctite 3J) wasnt strong enough to keep the two faces sealed even though they are machined. Dont know what RA it would have been. But I know I had to re-mill the face of the outlet pipe flange after welding as it bowed a little. I would have thought with the 3J it would have been good enough, guess not. I refitted both the outlet pipe and bypass valve and regooped them up with some threebond. Hasnt fully cured yet, but did a quick 6500rpm stab and it made 1 bar of boost and it seems to be holding perfectly. No signs of leakage from around the flange face. Now the overboost valve was fully open and screaming when I did that and it still managed to push 1 bar of boost upto the plenum. Starting to think it might not be big enough. But hopefully once its tuned it would be needed to control boost. It also is stupidly loud when its venting. Other issue is when you let the throttle off sharply, the pressurised air goes out the bypass valve and I think goes out the intake and through the afm...bringing back the unstable idle issue for a second as the revs stabilise. I may need to fit a BOV.... I was hoping to avoid having one. Another thing Ill have to see if necessary after dyno tuning.
  10. oh yeh! looking forward to that bit. hopefully it all goes well.
  11. ok so i just dropped the belt and took it for a drive and it was fine in na form. so it seems its just the tune thats making it hesitate when it tries to boost. i was worried it was a mechanical issue with the setup.
  12. Ok. Busy day yesterday finishing it all off. Took it for a drive and it ran like shit, as expected. Some further playing in the datalogit with the injector settings smoothed that out. Still doesnt like coming onto boost so early. My guess the fuel map isnt too good for the 0.5-0.8bar of boost it makes as soon as you stomp the gas. The overboost valve is working, hence the low boost. Ok the catch can does have some baffling inside of it. But it appears to breathing fine. Guess ill find out on the dyno when it counts. The electric power steering pump isnt setup yet. Its last on the list of things to do. I Will mount it and hook it up once everything else is sorted and working fine. Interesting you say that justin, cause a few times ive seen mine read some funny temps, maybe engine noise/vibration is causing this... But the actual sensor ends of mine protrude into the runners, so they have gas flow running past them. Well I may have to re run them back into the cab somewhere if it keeps up. Goddamit! Ok so the good news is there is a video I did yesterday afternoon. It just shows it running. Its not that good and it has me coughing and speaking in it a few times. My apologies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHCbYgR3mBg
  13. Justin, yeh I think they probably are meant to go into the cabin. However I wouldnt have any room to mount them all inside without it looking silly or taking up a fair chunk of room. So left it out in the engine bay. Hopefully they wont get too wet there as they are not exactly water tight lol. Didnt work Justin.
  14. Thanks. I am itchin pretty hard!! Its just got a powerfc. I wish I had something else like a vipec or link or something without an afm. Would have made things a little easier!
  15. Thanks Ben. I wouldnt say perfectly though. There are some things I could do better now Ive done it. Hopefully whats done will suffice until something happens/goes wrong lol. Since you guys brought it up ive been thinking about ways to do it to the race car. Ive come up with a few good ideas. Main issue is trying to fit the drive pulley in since the dry sump pump takes up the last of the room out the front of the balancer. But I think it would turn any race car into an animal if it works how it should! I could see a setup like this being perfect for drifters too. Bulk torque on tap instantly. I have a few pictures from tonight showing a little more. The engine bay is pretty well finished apart from some more tidying of the lines/wires. The damn egt sensors wires are like 3metres long! Its just silly. I need to see if its possible to cut them down and redo the plugs. I want to change the catch can line plumbing too so it sits abit lower and neater. So tomorrow I will see if my old throttle cable bracket will work with this new throttle body and if so then put the bonnet and front bar back on and go put some petrol in it and take it for a test drive around the block and see what it does or doesn't do! I will take some videos of it too and throw them up for everyone to see
  16. Yeh weve learnt over the last 5 years of in/outs its just easier to disconnect everything and just take motor/gbox out in one hit. Do what you need to do, then chuck it back in! Comment about your piston choice mate. Your going for higher comps to help response? Weve run both cp's flat top and domes and its makes bugger all difference. What does make the difference is manifold choices. Or so we found when at the track. On a road car running 9:1 might be well and good, but for 95% of the time whilst on the race track you never fall off boost so much that you would really need that extra comp to help get you back on. Whilst racing you more then likely wont notice the difference. I couldnt.
  17. I envy the quietness of your car! After a while off loudness you will be wishing you left it as is and IMO the induction noise is way cooler then a loud exhaust note. If your exhaust flows well and your making the power your happy with and its nice and quiet. Thats something I would wish for before world peace!
  18. The sprint track at QR would be the one best suited to the low down torque/power. It has some tight corners and its the main gauge for the time attack series here. The national track is the main power friendly course you would be thinking of. Its four drag strips linked with a few corners. If your car can half turn corners and has brutal straight line speed you can pretty much overtake everyone down the straights and hopefully stay ahead during the corners and you can win like that easily and methodically. Noel, yes it would! Originally I was hoping to do this for the race car......but my father.... However if this turns out to be a top shit setup he would no doubt want to implement it on the race car. Atleast now I know what im doing (sort of) it would be pretty well twice as quick and easy to setup, if not even more so. Yeh Steven, sorry our race car is virtually identical to my road car....97 S2 gtst. Good ole RWD!
  19. I think the sprintex 2.8l is good for about 850-900hp. Im not a fan of the chargers that have casted housing....look shit and are inherently weaker. I am a big fan of the extruded housings like kenne bell, sprintex, autorotor.... Nicer finish, more rigid housing allows for higher boost!
  20. Thanks mate. The ultimate would be a twincharge setup....but god that would take even longer to do!
  21. Nice works fellas! What sort of bright orange you talking about? Is it from a current car or is it some new weird colour?
  22. Cheers fellas. Its been a long road the last 5 months! Lol yeh I recall you asking a while ago too. I will do that mate. Im also curious to see what its like compared to a stock turbo'd rb25 with the boost screwed up.
  23. SLY-25T Cheers mate. Yeh it really is stuffed full of shit. I may go into a slight depression if something does go seriously wrong before I get to enjoy it properly. So hopefully it all goes to plan and then I wont have to worry about working on it. Im hoping the video will do it some justice. The noises it makes are just awesome. Spark911 yeh mate it is. lol its nearly driven me mad working on it for so damn long too. I will be getting it tuned at Mercury Motorsports since they tune our race car also. skyline01999 Im very eager to see the results of this thing too. My fingers are crossed, so hopefully it delivers the goods! Cheers. Sad note, no work on it tonight. Gotta hang with the gf. They are only understanding to a certain point unfortunately.
  24. You should go for it Andrew and supercharge your new rb30! Rough idea on how much its cost me so far....for pretty well everything, not just the supercharger shit, i think im around 10k so far. So if you did it all yourself as well, I would budget maybe a few grand less and there you have it! I could see how the labour charge from a workshop to do this would easily double that figure. Though they would get it done way quicker then me. If they knew what they were doing (which I didnt really) I reckon a good couple of weeks would pull it up. But that would be full time working on the car. Not on and off as they do sometimes as they juggle jobs around. Lol cats and birds...The induction noise from this sucker would seriously make you believe it would ingest such things. Its frightening how hardcore it is when it start compressing the air.
  25. Yeh im hoping to be ready to get her tuned next week sometime. Im excited about that bit. Thanks mate! Yeh its all abit different to your usual turbo setup. Sounds a hell of alot different too! Correct Andrew, that is the egt unit. Well units, they all slide into eachother. Im starting to struggle for space. Once everything is finished and in, I really dont think I could fit anything more in the engine bay at all!
