Rifle barrel brushes. Not sure if thats the proper term. They look like twined fencing wire and the end has plastic strands wound in with it and you twirl them in and out of holes with your choice of cleaning product/solvent. Thats what the ones I have look like, no doubt there are a variety of similiar looking products which will do the job just as good.

Rb25de (supercharged) Project
r33_racer replied to r33_racer's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
I wish i was! I fitted the supercharger, intake and charge pipe up. Had to goop up some faces for better sealing. But thats all done for the last time....hopefully. I put the radiator in and fitted up the accusump and started some of the plumbing. Ran into an issue with the new oil filter and spent the rest of the night trying to nut out where to put it and then made bracketry and got it bolted up. Also bolted the intercooler up. No doubt I would have got more done had I not run into any issues.....but shit happens! The weekend should be more promising. Apart from Sunday as I want to goto Mercury's dyno day and see whats going on. -
Question On The Rb26 Oil Pump Collar
r33_racer replied to Niswow's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Balancing definitely! You can look at it from the view that you need to grind material off inorder to fit the collar... Chances are it wont, but it may go close to evening itself out. -
Lol yeh that maybe true, but at the end of the day its a toyota! Nuff said! Probably just me being a true nissan follower. But to be fair we used to race with a bloke who had a soarer and it was a quick car!
-
Yucky! toyota...

Nice. All appears upto the task. Did you always run such a thick headgasket on the old rb30?
-
I believe its based off of how thick your headgasket is. Protrusion needs to be about 25% of the headgasket thickness. Try this info. It may help. Going by that i guess max is .012". Im not sure if it is different for doing the head instead of block. Being stainless and head alloy, maybe the head groove can distort or compress once all torqued down???

what size intercooler and piping you running?

Dude, nice work! -
A hoist is something that has been argued about many times...if only we did have one! I like how you guys go eliminating problems step by step. No guessing or mucking around. Hopefully you get it all sorted out.
-
Dunc I will be keen for that, one day. Lol street r33 or track car, whichever is working well enough to race with! Im secretly keen on the street car though. God im hoping it delivers the results im expecting! Im gonna blow everyone away! EVERYONE!!!! Those torque wreches are huge! I believe they use that size to do up truck wheel nuts also!

Fmic Piping, Does Size Matter?
r33_racer replied to ClutchBurndout-:('s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I think this is covered in corky bells turbocharged book. Well it must be since its covered in the supercharger book also. Its worth grabbing since it gives you the formulas for working out this kind of stuff. Very informative! Bubba is right though, only upgrade size if its needed and if your doing from turbo exit to tb. -
I have heard about those Y piece nozzles also. Supposed to work alot better then just a straight injector. Makes sense I guess.
-
I did talk to a guy who did pre turbo on his vl and he got really good power gains from it. Reckons he had no visible wear on the blades, though im not sure how long he had it running for. He mentioned the trick was to have the injector positioned inside the middle of the intake so it sprays directly into the centre of the wheel rather then coming in from the side. I couldnt figure if that would make much difference since it would get sucked in whereever it ended up. But who knows unless you try for yourself right. One of those WI companies said all methanol or mostly methanol was the best way for pre turbo as its softer and therefore doesnt impact the compressor as hard as water.
-
I dont remember the injector size exactly sorry, but it was one rated for about 500-600hp whatever that equates to in cc/min. It was a while ago that we played with that. Yes it was a gt30r and it shocked alot of people what was achieved with it. It let us get gt35r power from the smaller brother. Ive been considering WI for the supercharger setup if I cant get what im hoping for out of it. 1 injector into the intake of the charger and then one before the TB. If i was to do a turbo setup again with WI I would do the samething. But I would run a higher mix of methanol, probably 60/40 or maybe 70/30. It would work its best at the turbo intake, interms of dissipating heat from during the compression stage. As Justin said, it is another thing that can go wrong, but in saying that we never had an issue with our system. Technology these days is pretty good and has overcome many of the problems they had with them 20-30 years ago. High pressure, more reliable pumps and better injector designs with prefilters and whatnot, plus the safety devices incase of blockage/lack of flow which when setup properly should yield great results without any problems.
-
We used WI years ago on the race car and it helped us get 360 or 370 odd rwkws with a gt30r. We picked up about 40kw's. It was just the snow performance kit with the maf controller and it worked very well. If you are doing race duties, just fabricate up your own tank to hold as much as you like. I made one that held about 10litres in the boot. I believe we just topped it up when we topped the fuel up, I think the usage was around 2-3 litres per session. Easiest way would be to just buy the plastic fuel tanks like the ones in that AIS kit, but say a 40L cell and that would last for ages. Put a fuel level in it and its sorted, or as Titan said a low level indicator.

The new engine build sounds wild Noddy! That hoist would help a shit load! Im super jealous. I can give you a few ideas with the sump if you like... What sort of pump you looking at?

Cheers fellas Only gotten about half the port matching done this morning and this arvo. Tomorrow morning should see me finish it off! -
I thought you want as little back pressure as possible in any engine. Even NA. Especially when you're trying to develop power! 3.5" is perfect! Later on when you upgrade for more power you will be set!

lol i personally wouldnt take a machinist seriously if he likes using 'cheaper and better' in the same sentence. Thats a little scary. Both acl and king bearings are fine for this application. I would go first oversize for pistons, you dont go anymore then you dont need. So 86.5mm. I would put on the list a good oil pump. I take it you will be thrashing this thing once done??? Maybe a track day, a go at the drags and just your regular hooning around?? -
lol everyone has a welder! Cheap as chips these days! Fairly certain supercheap sell em. Any pictures/specs of this new tig?

Cheers. Will defs be giving some when its going. Plus alot of videos! Welded on the new egt bungs tonight on top of the old stainless ones. Went to bolt everything up and remembered I need to heat wrap the damn extractors and port match the farkers to the head, along with my copper gaskets I made last week. The compressor at home is shit and doesnt hold enough air to die grind, so its going to be a tomorrow at work job! Once that port matching and wrapping is done tomorrow the whole exhaust system from head to tip can be bolted back up and photographed! Its tucked up nice and high and shouldnt cause any issues with bottoming out over speed bumps. I really like this exhaust. Its gotta be the first one thats actually turned ou exactly how I wanted it. Apart from the extractors lol. They were just an abortion!
