Torque Settings For Engine Bearings

How much stretch is about right for the standard rod bolts?? I cant find any specs in the r33 service manual. -
2l Catch Can Overflows After 10 Second Run? Help!
r33_racer replied to wsln33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You should have left the return in, but put it on the exhaust side of the sump. The vacuum from the crank rotation will suck the oil from the return. The inlet side is the pressure side, and as such it would have been acting like or trying to act like a crankcase vent. It very well could have been pushing oil up there intermittently, but as pointed out having the rocker cover breathers out back down low will be letting alot of oil out. However, if you had the return back to the sump, it probably wouldnt have mattered. -

On a side note, the mod made it looking fricken tidy! I like it! -
Torque Settings For Engine Bearings

43ft/lbs to achieve the 60 or 65 degrees?? I may need to go and nip them up another 5 ft/lbs each if thats the case. I was considering buying one the other day, but it would have put the assembly bit off even more. Probably a good idea to get one! Thanks for the clarification though Hopefully Denis has taken note of what you said before assembling his bottom end. -
Torque Settings For Engine Bearings
r33_racer replied to GRR-33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Main bolts are 38ft/lbs or 53NM. Conrod is 12ft/lbs or 16NM then tighten an additional 60-65 degrees. Funnily enough I just did all this last night. I dont have a protractor or angle wrech so I just marked on the rod cap where 1 corner of the nut was after the initial 16NM and then just turned it until the next corner lined up with that mark. Oddly enough, it ended up being the same as the main bolts after that extra 60 degrees. Tested it on the next one and 38 ft/lbs took it around 60 degrees or thereabouts. -

I got them from PLX devices. Bascially 6 x egt units and you link them all up and i got a datalogger display unit to go in the car. My understanding is you just hook them all up inline and then upto the dash. So tuning should be a heap more accurate now too. -
Skyline R33 Gt-t Burns Extreme Amounts Of Oil
r33_racer replied to Iceman22's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeh all that oil would be from the old turbo. You should really have cleaned that up first to stop that from going through the motor. -

Actually I have done abit. I havent bothered with a proper update yet as I never got the exhaust finished. I have done the extractors and down to the 2 into 1 merge and left it at that for the moment. As of today I have the motor and gbox out and the bottom end stripped for inspection and a few mods and tweaks to be done before it all goes back together and then back in. I didnt go into any detail in making the headers like I originally wanted. They are far from equal length and abit messy. It took ages to do and it was a pita. I couldnt make it equal length or close too like the UK guys did in their race car because I still have heater lines and wiring and other crap along the firewall and so had to place things differently. But as you will see from the pictures 1,2 and 3 go where they need too inorder to clear the intake and 4,5 and 6 basically go straight down into the collector. The other main hold up before coating is my egt sensor setup from america is being held in customs as it was over 1k I gotta fill out all the bullshit paper work and go pay the extra tax before I can collect. Once I get them I can weld in the fittings and paint the whole thing or maybe get it ceramic coated and then heat wrap it all and have it ready for installation. The motor looked great when stripped down. I rebuilt it like 3-4 years ago and since then havent looked after it very well, gave it shit oil and hardly changed it. The oil that came out of it was quite black and burnt. Yet the bearings were damn near perfect apart from a few polished areas on some, but the majority were still with factory coating and discolouration. I was amazed as this car hasnt been treated very nicely when it was being used. Many burn outs and thrashings have been given over that time! So I gotta do a few adjustments to the factory oil pump and then some new seals front and back, fit the twin plate, possibly modifying the std sump to hold a couple litres more oil, reassemble the bottom end and then chuck it in and finish off the exhaust and fuel system side and hopefully try and get it started! With any luck I wont have a million things to try and fix before it runs reliably. Thats about all I got for the moment. Once I get a good amount accomplished I will post up a big one! -

What Is The Best Turbo For 300rwhp With Minimal Lag?
r33_racer replied to fubar's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Clearly the answer is a supercharger right??? -
My road r33 when running with the standard turbo on 12psi had 210rwkws for a couple of years with no problems until i went stupid with the mods....i just cant help myself. But yes it can be done or close enough.
-
I missed the other thread. Well that explains more. Its possible the extra boost is causing issues with power making because of the restriction in the i/c and part of the piping and if there is alot of back pressure in the exhaust then thats only making the problem worse. Perhaps a gauge in the exhaust to measure what back pressure you have with your current system.
-
You never said what intercooler you are using and what size piping? Unless I missed it. But to reach 400rwkws, you will need 3" inch intercooler piping everywhere and atleast a 100mm thick cooler. Years ago we stonewalled around 320-330rwkws on our race car and it turned out our i/c piping and intercooler were too small. Got a new i/c from ARE and I made new piping (3") as per above and our power jumped straight up to 380 or 390rwkws. RB30det much the same as yours.

Nice! What boost was that done at? -

r33_racer replied to r33_racer's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
All the merge collectors I found that could be bought from an exhaust shop were not proper merge style ones. They were the old fashion way with pipes tacked together and a conical sheet rolled around it and then shaped around the pipes and welded up. I wanted to this bit properly and challenge myself....it did take the better part of today though. But it was my first go at doing this....surely thats a good enough excuse lol. Good thing GCG has the vbands! Woot! Problem solved. -

Thats insane! Looks like it will rip some mean skids! Where is it located? Here are the two merge collectors ready for vband rings, which I dont have yet...Anybody know of places that have 2.5" and 3" vband rings with clamps? Got them expanded down the road at Macs Mufflers at Brendale! Did it while I waited which was good. Cost me $30. Time to clean up the insides! Justin, family business mate. Old man is the boss, knowing people helps with this kind of stuff. -

Something twin charged, thats for sure. Looks like the turbo feeds into the supercharger, which looks like a factory unit, probs the one of the 4agze?? Or maybe they merge together, its hard to see. Looks quite intricate though. Im working on the merge collectors today and then onto the rest of the headers. I have holidays this week and I hope to get this part close to done this week! -
I got the bursons one. Its good if your not too harsh with it. If it breaks its simple to fix and improve.

Got your harness mounts sorted yet???

Project R34

Good to see another skyline being done up for racing! Dont want to rain on your parade for the times, but zebra is right. Its easy to get down to low 60's, to push past that and into sub 60's it jumps up exponentially. Not just in power, but suspension, tyre size and compound, cars weight, brake setup and a whole myriad of other things. Good luck to you though, hopefully you do get there. Ive found that if you go out there just to have fun and not worry about your times, you end up doing your best ones without it feeling like you were trying! Its great! Hopefully will see you out there. -
Such a nice clean build! Looks like a skyline supercar!

Yeh, its probably better suited for a rail or tube frame car. More room!
