  1. street cruising is for the win for sure...................boring!!!!!!!!! I think id much rather fast cars doing fast things on the track rather then acting like a 17yr old who just got his license and burning fuel like no tomorrow for the sake of hanging out and possibly feeling cool....no offense, i used to do it too...but then i grew up
  2. Yep, i will be using an old dummy block...probably the first rb30 we blew as the welding jig so it wont distort. My original plan was to just weld all round on the outside...however ive been thinking about it abit more and was considering welding both inside and out...will minimise any chances of holes forming. Yeh corners are easier as there is normally a natural V which is probably more like an L which pools better and fills in alot nicer. Biggest thing i had trouble with T joints is not enough amps and trying to run before the molten pool had formed correctly on both surfaces. So the weld would want to stick more to one side rather then both evenly. Need to make sure the arc is wider rather then small and concentrated so it gets both faces....but practice will get you there.
  3. yes sorry...my memory is crap...thats what it was. the radiator sitting lower. Didnt mean to misinform....my bad.
  4. Finally got the flange finished off...jig n sawed out...its a little rough, but will do for the first proto. The 4mm worked out almost perfect...didnt flex or want to bend...it just stayed rigid and flat the entire time i was cutting it out. All the holes came out spot on too....phew
  5. I thought that was due to holden putting an inefficient and undersized radiator in the vl...while nissan actually knew what they were doing...hence why vls have overheating problems and the r31 didnt....is that true?...i actually heard that from several holden nuts!
  6. i also use a kempi tig....they are top shit. Good to see that atleast someone on here knows a little about pipe purging to protect the root peno from contamination.....not many people are aware of it and why its done...good work troy. Welding whilst sitting on a good level bench is awesome for nice welds. Try welding pipe in the 5g position. My neck and back are killing after the root run and hot pass, let alone a few capping runs.
  7. a materials cold workability is how well is acts and reacts to forming, shaping and bending without heat. For example if i were to try and do a 90 degree bend in the 4mm plate it will probably only bend to say 20 degrees and then start to crack and if i keep going all the way to 90 it will just crack in half.....its too hard or brittle if you think of it that way i spose. Weldability of it should be pretty good from what i remember about it last time i used it. Find a site with information on aluminium and it will describe all the different traits of the different groups of ally. So you know what you want and need inorder to work with it successfully. Should give info on temper, workability, weldability, machineability, physical traits like melting point and blah blah blah. Yep once i get a working flange up and done (should be soon )going to get mate at work to do a cad drawing of it with all the hole centres and what not so i get them made via waterjet cutting or laser cutting...whatever is cheaper i guess. We get a fair bit of laser cutting down for work...so i could probably tack it onto our account and put it through that..so it might work out relatively affordable.
  8. Chris i used 4mm thick T6 xxxx series....its extremely rigid and not very good for cold working....but its just my flange...and i was going to use 3mm sheet with a much softer temper so i can fold up the basic shape and then tig that to the flange. Once i cut the guts out of it and drill all the holes in this one ill take some photos and show you. From memory i used a sheet 250 X 700 X 4mm that was pretty close to the std sump dimensions...a little guillotining and linishing brought it upto shape.
  9. im pretty sure they are very similiar except the rb30 has a v belt for the aircon i think from memory whilst the alt and power steering are the same....or i could have a few mixed up there.
  10. thats a pretty cold heat range. I would have thought something like a 7 or 8 for a street car that does occasional track time and that would be right on the limit...the car would fart and pop in the mornings till it gets upto working temp.
  11. i love it when you see those great numbers on such old and tired bottom ends....and how they keep on doing it with no dramas. Until something gives and it all breaks...which sux. But then again you see motors fully built up and they still blow....haha i know of a few
  12. yeh i traced out the standard sump onto an ally sheet and marked it all out and cut it out manually by hand (guillo, jigsaw and linisher)...once i get a cad drawing of it done ill be able to get them laser cut. If it all works out easytown i might look at making a high energy equivalent with some trap doors and whatnot out of ally. It would suit rb20, 25 and 30. With the scraper...id imagine the mesh would catch it good, but it would retain it for quite a while until it built up enough to drip down. Ive seen a few nice ally crank scrapers made up with bend up fins and holes all through them.
  13. youd be paying for a very dissappointing nothing unfortunately. Cause ive seen his car and the write up and spoken to him several times....not a great deal of it is believeable.
  14. yes two flames is awesome to have. Just dont let them melt the p.s steering rack boot....haha.
  15. Funny someone should mention this as im in the process of fabricating an ally dry sump pan at the moment. Different to a normal gated sump with extra capacity, just a very shallow pan with a few valleys for the two pickups for the pump. When i get closer to finishing it ill get a few shots of it and pop em up. At the moment ive only got the flange cut out, and other peoples paying jobs come first unfortunately. If only there were more hours in the day
  16. sarcasm was intended...naturally. If youve ever spoken to the bloke....youll know hes abit of a bragger and full of hot air.
  17. you have no idea of how jealous i am of his braggings.
  18. yeh and he claims a 1:14 around the national track....thats average supercar times incase people arnt aware. Also those claims are made all on re55 semi slicks. Also on a side note his car is a r33 gtst...not gtr.
  19. haha man this thread has gone silly.
  20. so now you owe me noel...haha
  21. talk to john hill about converting your std lifters to solids noel. Unless there is also someone else anyone knows of that can do it without going to the expense of tomei stuff from japan.
  22. yeh me too...will do that one time noel. Might use that dog box for some clutchless shifting for once.
  23. boring......everyone come circuit racing.................we need more people.
  24. why the hell would you bore yourself with just drags....come on. My 13 yr old brother could dust youz all if he was in a fast enough car. Damn i reckon with a good set of drag slicks the r33 could do tens....with my brother driving haha.
