Is Water/methanol Spray Better Than Fmic?
r33_racer replied to Taso84's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
haha neill we run our tank right at the very back of the car in the driver side quarter panel/boot...no problems with ours. Its small quarter inch line with a high pressure pump...there is virtually no pressure loss over the few metre distance it covers, if your suspect about it just get the upgraded pump to the 220psi model. Ive heard of some bloke who set his injection up two way...one feed before the throttle body as per standard and then he hooked up another one in his intake which was hooked up to a boostline from the plenum so it helped atomise the mix better and it cooled the compressor/intake air before it was cooled by the i/c and then even moreso when it reached the valve inlet. Supposedly it increased the hp rating of the compressor by another 100-200hp as it was cooling the intake charge right at the turbo inlet so its efficiency range could increase without blowing hot air...thats how it was explained to me anyway...ive never seen it myself....but i wouldnt mind trying it. -
have you checked fuel pressure? Perhaps the fuel filter had been blocking flow and now youve changed it, its increased enough to be slightly too rich causing a miss.

Is Water/methanol Spray Better Than Fmic?
r33_racer replied to Taso84's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeh when ours was tuned they had to lean out the afrs a little....but then screw in heaps more timing and a few pounds extra of boost and watch the power climb with no increase in knock. -
my apologies mate...its abit annoying having to state everything everytime....so i just try to cut to the chase. But with something like that in this circumstance i prob should state those things which might keep people wondering as to how that power was achieved.

haha did anyone get any new emails about cams updates with sport sedans in their state championship round now....they are opening it up to japanese cars and freeing up some of the rules on turbos and whatnot...guess they are losing people and trying to regain some form of popularity...one min they piss us off and then they come back groveling for support...even offering cash prizes now too! Cams is so sad...typical old boys club...dont like new cars and dont like anything with a hair dryer on it.

r31nismoid if you followed the rb30 thread a little more you may have noticed it around there abit. Ive spoken about it several times and so have others. In our racecar we run a 25/30det with a fair bit done to it. Head has a slight port n polish same as everyone else normally, tomei 256 poncams, 6boost mani, greddy mani, 850cc sards, powerfc, the gt30 .82 with a 3" zorst, no muffles cat, just straight through, 48mm progate, ati dampener, 8.3:1 comp, acl mls hg, water/meth injection, 8krpm. On shell 100 pulp on 19psi (i think 1.3bar) we made 370rwkws and 385rwkws on 22psi 1.5bar..knock was too high though so we kept it at the 370. The water/meth injection added an extra 50kws, a heap more timing was added for the extra power. Before the water/meth we were only at 320rwkws on 17 or 18psi cant recall now.
-
well im hoping for 400 in ours with the gt3582r...had 370 before with the gt30..so another 30 kws shouldnt be too far outta reach with this new motor. I reckon its possible. I guess time will tell though. However it will be definetely right on the limit, thats for sure.

heres a good setup....wouldnt it be great if there was one throttle body for each cylinder. Sure beats the single setup and its gotta beat the twin na setup...whaddiya reckon mates? One big chamber that feeds individual throttle bodies for each inlet port....geez why didnt nissan employ me? The real decision you need to make adrian is do you want the longer runners in your manifold for down low-mid response or the shorter ones like that in a 26 for the better mid-high range flow and response. You more concerned with road drivability or when you hit the track for some sweet circuit action? I reckon that makes your options a little simpler...however you already knew that. Id go 26 and adapt it. There are adapter plates for 26 inlets also im sure greddy make em or someone else. Surely 26 inlet systems arent too exxy? I looked at some ages ago when i was gonna use one, and they were only around 300 bux for whole inlet side. Dont know if thats cheap or exxy though.
-
The power output of a 3582r is just over 600hp, alot of people say they are 650hp but its not true. Garrett themselves rate the turbo as capable of 400rwkws on a 3litre engine, typically 25 and 26 30dets. Thats about 530whp or roughly 600bhp give or take 10-15hp.

Another Oil Feed/restrictor Question
r33_racer replied to limpus's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yes thats what he is saying. Everything will work properly, dont worry about it. -
shit yeh brad...its good when problems get sorted. Dont have to stress anymore about any wild theories which would end up in engine pull out to fix. And shit yeh to the spin...woot. Its going to be a headspin machine for sure.
-
haha ISL33P actually i already knew he had one on his car previously. I just said it like that so it seemed i was highly intuitive. I can relate to the amount of parts in the garage though, we are upto our necks in spare junk. Yeh the problem was from a boost leak where the i/c pipe went into the silicon hose on the tank of the i/c - inlet side. The whole system wouldnt hold 5psi. So i fabbed up a new inlet i/c pipe which fixed that. So we are outta the woods for now. At the moment were getting full boost at about 4500rpm, which is a big difference in lag, we should be around the 3700rpm fullboost, which will be 21psi. Were hoping to just control boost with springs and nothing else, as the wastegate is now directly running off our turbine housing. So hopefully on the next tune fullboost will be achieved earlier then 4500rpm. I should have got the print out and posted it on here.
-
Just got back from mercury before we ran the car up with kyle and with a few little adjustments with no water/meth on 18psi we got 340rwkws out of it. Gotta change a few things like wastegate spring is too weak (7psi spring) and boost is dropping up high to 17psi, so going for 14 and 7 for 21psi. Im hoping that with the extra boost some more timing and the water/meth injection which should allow the extra timing/boost we can crack 400rwkws, even though it aint knocking yet. Im guessing with a full tune without water/meth we can get to 370 and then the last 30 with the injection.
-
yeh thats the bloke who copied kyles manifold and started undercutting him in price. Cant say much for blokes like that, but every area has these types of people. Look for 6boost on calaisturbo also and you will see manifolds that are identical.
-
Was that manifold made in UK or here in AUS? Looks like a direct copy of Kyles manifold. Also rule of thumb for wastegate pipe length is min 18"(450mm) before it rejoins the exhaust system, typically at the arse of a bend so the flow is heading in the same direction as the exhausts.

How would two rb25 std bovs work? As im sure i have 3 or 4 of the mofos lying around in the workshop. Was considering changing from the atmo to two stds for plumback setup on the racecar. Has anyone had any experience with them? Im thinking i would have to weld up that bleed off hole which they may have, i remember my old rb20 bov had one, not 100% if the 25 ones have em though.

Brads is a 33. I thought all skylines has 5/16" fuel lines yeh? If it was a 32 he would be lucky enough to utilise his hicas lines as fuel lines as i think they are about 3/8"...farking imperial is shit house, 8mm is bigger then 5/16" and 10mm is bigger then 3/8". Being Jap i thought they would have actual 8mm fuel lines not 5/16", or maybe they do?

Oil Control In Rb's For Circuit Drag Or Drift
r33_racer replied to Sydneykid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
We use mig welding tips, they are copper and about 6.2mm in diameter, depending on brand i spose. But then you have a choice of hole sizes for the different thickness wires used. Common welding wire for steel is 0.9mm but the tips are 1.0mm to allow for wire expansion from heat, so thats a 1mm restrictor, you just gotta cut it down to the length which should be about 6mm also from memory. If you use copper ally tips, they generally allow .2 expansion for wire so if its a 1.2mm tip the hole is actually 1.4mm. Thats a typical 0.9mm steel tip at work. With a 1.0mm hole up its arse. Ive found that actually machining up 6.0mm restrictors is easy enough but then drilling a 1.0mm hole or 1.2mm hole is damn near impossible as the drill bits are too easy to snap. I snapped 4 X 1.0mm bits just to make one restrictor last time i tried that approach. -
Stainless Steel Low Mount Manifold. Looking At Buying
r33_racer replied to WogsRus's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Competition coatings i think is a company that does ceramic coatings for manifolds and exhausts and whatnot. Like HPC and whatever other companies around that do ceramic coatings. You'd only ever do the black (highest temp) coating as the normal silvery one cant handle the heat in a turbocharged system. We had our dump pipe on the race car done in the silver and it just flaked off after a few race meets. -
haha Cubes why do you think ISL33P posted! Have a guess? But it is impressive Brad. Take me for a spin sometime yeh? So i can feel the power of a to4z on a 30det.
-
fark yeh...thats great news on only 18psi...room for alot more by the looks of it. full boost at 3600rpm in 4th gear?
-
yeh id hope so...but we gotta get this new motor making some power first before we even think of doing anything else. Dyno tomorrow arvo for power run to see if we fixed the problem of no power! But i should start looking around for a busted rb26 or atleast a complete 26 head.
-
dear son of rajab thats awesome work geoff. 1 man army workforce.
-
god i hate the rb25 head....its so shit. Just a general comment. I wanna go back intime about a year ago when we first built the 30det so i can do it with a 26 head instead. Curse my old man!
-
1. You probably can use the d-jetro but so long as you use the correct corresponding sensors and adapt them to the rb25 head. Whether rb20 ones will work only someone whose done that before will know. SK will more then likely know, as i think he may have used a rb20 loom with his 26/30 in his r32. 2. Highly unlikely as no gtr had or has the vct thats found in rb25's. Not sure on what cam you could use to replace it though. However StockyMcstock removed his vct and runs a normal 'non vct' camshaft i believe. 3.not a 100% percent sure on max lift but i think its something like 9.0mm maybe 9.5mm, i know poncams at 8.5mm clear but i think once you start getting higher then around 9 you need machining done so lobes dont hit the head. Perhaps someone else knows for sure. 4.one or the other unless you can run a resistor pack inline somewhere. Being a gtr comp you will probably have to run with low imp top feeds i think they are. 5.If you checked back alot of pages ago, StockyMcstock talked about how he blocked off the vct. The std bearing holes still provide oil for the camshaft and the front has its own supply i think it doesnt rely on the vct feed that bleeds off into the camshafts feed. 6. No there isnt, you will need a top feed fuel rail, aftermarket unless you can adapt a gtr rail to it somehow. You should have gone through and read from start to finish all of the 247 pages and you would have come across almost enough to answer those questions. I was lucky, there was only like 160 or so when i started reading into it, took me about a 2-3 days of reading every night after work for a few hours.
