What Sort Of Setup For A 32gtr Catch Tank?
r33_racer replied to GTR-026tt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thats because there is no difference. Only differences in catch cans is how they work. Some hold the oil...some return it to the sump and some just sit there and look pretty cause the guy who has it has no idea what its there for. -
i think we figured out why ours isnt holding boost. To do with a lack of backpressure in our exhaust system now haha. So yeh..hopefully find out in a day or so if the fix will work. Spoolup...what manifold are you running again? Is it one of Kyles? Ok so i just backchecked last page...and you do run one of kyles. Well i just got back from seeing kyle at Mercury before. With our situation, because we put a 4" system on now there is virtually no backpressure whatsoever and because his manifolds are so efficient and now our exhaust system is super efficient, the exhaust gas is bypassing the wastegate completely as soon as gas velocity starts to skyrocket. Kyles fix, for us atleast, is to modify the rear housing so the wastegate is mounted straight off the turbines feed so exhaust gas is forced into the wastegate and cannot bypass thus letting us control boost pressure perfectly. Ive got a modified housing with me now, which will go on tomorrow hopefully or asap and we will know how it goes, but im highly confident it will fix the problem. Unfortunately I dont think that will fix your problem Spoolup.

What Sort Of Setup For A 32gtr Catch Tank?

no such thing...catch can is a catch can...doesnt matter what brand...most race tanks are custom made. -
the meth will allow more airflow and timing without the associated knock you would normally get. Only problem with it is you need injectors twice as big as normal and a pretty good fuel system that wont perish, and can supply the required amount.

I have no idea what our diff ratio is actually...whatever std r33 manual is? 3.11 i guess...that sound right?
-
Going by the dyno sheet. Was it Matt Spry that tuned the car? If it was another workshop must have done the work as im pretty sure Matt doesnt do any mechanical work...just dyno tuning.
-
yep 320 each was the impression i was under also. Maybe its the inflated american dyno figures that lets them think they can make that much power?

funny thing was we have two safety loops, one for each half...magically somehow both halves got past them without even touching them....weird. Must have been light truck uni's cause you wouldnt fit any out of any prime mover...kenworth, mack and so on. Just too big. -
The powerfc will work fine...virtually all sensors and gismos are attached to the head, not block. Only things on block are knock sensors and ops. Unless there is other thingos that are gtr related that im unaware of. The std manifolds will bolt on also as they bolt onto the head, just need to make sure they clear the water gallery which is protruding a little more then a 25 or 26. Either grind them down on top so the manifolds go on or grind abit out of the fouling manifold sections.

im confused...first person to do what exactly? Whats the big claim?

48mm turbosmart progate....the exact one we used previously on the old motor before it died. The only different things on this new motor is the dry sump system, gt3540 0.82a/r, 4" exhaust system, oh and not that it matters but argo rods(previously ran rev)....so it went from making 370rwkws to 290rwkws.

Yeh the new tailshaft had beefed up unis, one size under what supercars use i believe, gotta be nongreasable, solid core unis, not hollow greasable ones. But i think the actual tubes inbetween are rated also, depending on wall thickness and diameter. In our case the tubes didnt distort from the initial shock, only from hitting the ground after it was spat out. -
aftermarket billet cranks and girdles would be nice...if they were or are readily available.

yeh...about 320rwkws and 280wide slicks and a 4k launch at morgan park off the grid snapped all the unis and spat it out......so yeh there is a rating normally. The hardy spicer one we got made had a rating in torque, however i cant remember it. -

is there some sort of hp/torque rating on them? -
yeh i know what your saying mate....im starting to feel a little stupified...cant work out where at minimum 80rwkws has gone missing, and why now it wont hold boost. What the frick is going on....Ours should be holding boost and making more power and so should yours....some gipsy has cursed us and our rb30dets....

In racing you are required by rules and regs to run a catch can that holds a certain litreage. Also they arent there just to catch oil or bad breath from sad motors, perfectly healthy engines still have oil in the head and during corners or even acceleration oil and oil vapour can escape the rocker covers. Every engine has to breathe. A catch can just lets it breathe without feeding contaminated air into turbo/intake. If you want to run it properly/illegally, dont run it into the intake, and put a breather on your can.
-
its so fricking frustrating when they dont make the power they should and you cant work out why.

not just commonwhores....any car with a live rear end suffers the same fate. Out of curiosity...how much does an ally tailshaft cost roughly? -
shoosh neill....my dream: an rb30det with to4z 10rpm redline.....words cant express how im feeling right now thinking about that. See no need to go overboard, something like that is great...but not godlike.
-
T6 as in ally pipe. What wall thickness do you use also? How does that fair? With all the bumps and shocks from drifting or racing, it doesnt bend or distort maybe crack?
-
Target boost was 1 bar. After that is goes stupid...however im not sure if it was 1 bar that was making the 290. Im guessing it is, because when it overboosts they havent been taking it any further cause it is leaning out fairly aggresively. Does that work out roughly??
-
The tuners still have our car...been there all week. Car wont make more power then about 290rwkws and it keeps overboosting once it reaches its target boost. They have been playing with timing, and wastegate springs....they think the problem is a faulty gate, which is sticking or something...so another is coming from turbosmart which will hopefully clear it up. Initial thought after playing with wg springs was that the timing was out a few degrees, as in piston was not tdc when we set it up...But now the blame has been shifted back to the wastegate. Hopefully it gets sorted cause races are next weekend. Car still needs a wheel alignment.

excellent work. You americans and your bling stainless. Cant stand stainless pipework, looks the shit for a few months then the heat kills it, it goes grey, loses its strength and looks. But very nice fab work.

looking great. Bummer about the all the dramas, but hopefully it will be all smooth sailing from here on out.
