The Garrett Gt30r Thread - Lots Of Info And Q's
r33_racer replied to The Mafia's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ive got my rb25 with a gt30r with .63 rear going in to be tuned this thursday. So i will post up what it gets and everything. Just rebuilt the motor, so fresh rb25 with acl forgies and thick headgasket....too thick. I farked up and im pretty sure the CR is 8:1.... Wanted 8.5:1. So i guess lots of timing and lots of boost will fix that. Things ive noticed so far is about a 50k per tank loss, and low down response is noticeably different...in a bad way. No one said the acl pistons drop your CR to 8.5:1, of which i had already allowed the doing of this by the 1.6mm headgasket. DAMMIT! -
Building a hardcore motor doesnt exactly take major skills. Infact neither does building a race car for that matter. Ive heard good things about the bloke at stafford. The motec agent.

Friend of mine was up there cheif scrutineer and another mate was up there as a steward. They asked me if i was gonna go up for the day...i laughed and told them why would i wanna go up to noosa to see old fogies in their old cars do laps, they got abit offended haha. Sure there are some nice cars up there, but like its been said its a closed shop sorta thing, if i rocked up in my skyline without knowing anyone there and asked if i could attend it, i would be damn near 110% sure they would tell me where to go. The only way i could get in is because im friends with a chief scrutineer and steward. 32det your old man races a 260z......need i say more. If there are modern cars attending its either because they know someone or they have been doing it for years and know everyone, but just got a new car.

Neill i meant that were not using the new turbo till later on after the next few races, sticking with the 3540 till then. Spoke to kyle about the turbo issue, and yeh we got it sorted out for later on. Man that would be a big big task of doing all that, plus its my old mans money not mine. I wish it was my money haha.

Charlies Motors @ Wollongabba. They tune our racecar...rb30det making...sorry was making 365rwkws no problems. Charlie and Dave, father and son team, you cant go wrong with family businesses, i know cause im in one also haha. The old man there used to race cars and bikes in all sorts so they know there way around race setups. They are fairly priced and tune spot on. They are right into the drift stuff now also, theres a few drift cars there every bloudy week. +1 for them from me. We jumped from Mercury to Charlies...But id give a +1 for Matty also. I know heaps of guys at the track who goto him and cant recommend him enough. -1 for MM

Sliding Performance Hiflow Picks And Installationon Rb20det
r33_racer replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
haha arent all rb20's laggy. I had a 2530 on mine in the old sil80 and damn it felt laggy in comparison to a mates sr with a 2530. Pissed me off cause i hate sr's. RB's FOREVER Im guessing full boost by about 4500?? -
The new turbo has a .84 rear, but it looks like were getting a .81 for it later on so its not split pulse. Should be good. Wont be going on till after the next few lots of races. Yeh will do shane.
-
Yes we should dig up his old thread...interesting to see how it is coming along and those kits. They are the old rods and that one i pictured is number 6 with bearing stuck to it. The new argos look even better then those. Plus they have SK's seal haha I like the farked gt3540 pic..you can see the compressor blades all chewed up along the sides and keeled over everywhere...photo doesnt do it justice. Infact that turbo is so good it spins in a rather egg shaped eccentric manner...so much so it continually redecorates the compressor housing every revolution! Oil surge kills everything
-
depends what pump your using. I would put the 1.5mm in anyway. It wont hurt anything. Plus if on the odd occassion you do do a track day or goto drags or rip a skid somewhere you wont get as much oil getting trapped in the head as you would if you didnt which could become messy.

It was brand spanker from Nissan, was airfreighted over in less then a week actually, cause we needed it for the race as the 2nd hand one had gotten oil on it from previous running...didnt want to take the chance. Yeh out 2nd hand one was only like 200 or so. Infact we have a few afm building up now...several q45s, and z32s...man we have some crap in our shed. In search for a good rb30 crank and block for the new motor weve ended up with 3 X rb30 long motors and 1 more is on the way. Weve also got 1 rb25 short block and 1 fully assembled rb25 long block minus manifolds plus the dead rb30det. Im gonna start my own wreckers Also took a few pics of the new stuff for the new engine. They are biggish...like a meg each...so not for 56k'rs. Hope they dont fark this page haha. The sard box is for you Shane, see our sard side feeds are 850cc. My memory isnt that bad haha
-
yeh i know...its so bad..like the brand new q45 afm we got from nissan, a weeks wait and 800 dollars later and we were good to roll.
-
Chris i just used the rb25 fitting in no.6 and the rb25 water fitting from the back of the water pump. It has that nice little 90 bend in it for the turbo water feed. If you dont have any rb25 ones, maybe try a wrecker for them? Is your rb25 in your skyline still being used? Cant you pinch them off that? Heres the photo i posted ages ago of the way we set ours up in the race car, using both the rb25 fittings.
-
i dunno about it stroking it out...wouldnt make sense to put a crank in with a shorter stroke. I know a bloke on here did the exact opposite, a modified 30 crank into a 26 block and got it to 2.9 litres i think. Is that right? Someone fill in the blanks who remembers better
-
and lucky for you thats probably cheap too. Nissan charge a heap to buy bits..so if you can outsource them from other places that have the same thing or a different brand its normally way cheaper.
-
well i can say then that series 2 rb30 rear main seals are the same as rb25s. Cause ive changed them myself when we built the 30 and then when i built my 25 a few weeks ago i used the spare one we had for the 30. Chris your not getting it from Nissan are you? Go to a bearing shop and get one from them, will be cheaper and probably better. Same with cam seals and they are the same as oil pump seals.

isnt stock boost 10psi and shouldnt it reach it way before 5k rpm. The better exhaust system you put in normally increases boost abit as it frees up the hotside from some backpressure. Wait, is this a rb20 or 25?
-
check if all the lines are still hooked off...nothing blew off from the sudden burst or anything silly like that. If not, record your duty cycle and boost settings and reset it and start from scratch.
-
geez...500awkws. Thats intense. What engine is this all on? 26? or 26/30?

another 2nd for 6boost. Kyle - 0410 730 598

Do I Need Z32 Afm? Hitman Says No!
r33_racer replied to Drivebai's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
sounds like it doesnt matter what we think....make a deal with him that if he cant tune it to the 260rwkws without the z32 then he has to retune it for free when its been put on. But im pretty sure its a necessity for that power level -
check you have the hoses for your ebc plumbed in for internal gate, not external. There are three possible fittings on the solenoid unit, i think you want for internal the middle one and one of the side ones..check the apexi handbook for setup.
-
We can rebuild it. We have the technology. The next rb30 will be better then before. BETTER, STRONGER, FASTER!
-
no.6 did and 5 with 6 being worst. But it cracked around 6 because as everyone knows 6 always runs the hottest. But weve put it down to a definete oil surge issue that started all this a few races ago. We thought we had gotten away clean but we didnt So dry sump now, so no more oil issues. Yup bad luck, but thats motor racing for ya
-
Well the oil pump was opened up and checked out and its all good and in one piece. So cant blame the N1 pump for this one. Further inspection has revealed the girdle is cracked around no.6 piston. Well were stripping down another rb30e long block tonight to get it machined asap to put together this new engine. Two weeks to do this. Gonna be hectic
