Sidd i think the point here is to view it SOOC. Resizing and sharpening will make the image appear sharper and more in focus than it actually is. Oh and more people have problems with photobucket than any other image hosting site because it fcuks with your photo if you don't know how to resize/go over file limits etc... Flickr - Works perfectly IMO, i've never had a problem with it. Although unless i want to quickly share photos, i'll host off my website. It will resize humungous images automatically. Anyway - Haven't looked at the photos but judging by peoples comments you were expecting a lot more lol. You have to remember on a P&S camera the sensor is so small and your normally shooting extremely wide angled so photos will always appear to look good. Until you start zooming in. You can definitely take some amazing shots with your kit lens, i think this is just user error (to do with settings). Auto mode is referred to as "Green box of death" for a reason. To get all artsy and fancy as you describe it, shooting in AV/TV/M is a better way of doing it. Remember to get that blur you can get the same blur at f/16 as long as your close enough to the subject. If you get right up in the books face and back off until it locks focus and take a snap, it will have nice bokeh (blur). I'll check the photos when i get home and comment then. Will take too long to download at work. I don't think your expecting too much, i just think the settings are wrong for what your expecting. Matt - Every photo i saw of yours on the calendar shoot night was so friggin cold and blue it wasn't funny hahaha, get some warmth in ya! Lol, doesnt matter cause your shooting RAW anyway.

http://photography-on-the.net/forum <-- Where i learnt everything. It's a canon forum as well and has a specific section for P&S's as well as high end like G10/11/12 etc.. Also, read books!!! Photography is as much about taking the photo as it is retouching it in photoshop/lightroom. Scott Kelbys books are by far the best for understanding what everything does and waht they are capable of. Many people recommend Bryan Petersons "Understanding Exposure". I bought it and was bored and over it within 10minutes. It doesn't actually teach you anything when your a n00b. Now i haven't picked it up since i read it a few years ago. It basically tells you about the triangular relationship of ISO/Shutter Speed/Aperture and what they all do. To be honest.. The best practice? Go out and shoot photos. Ask people who post photos, what settings are these or check if there is EXIF. I wrote up a friggin massive post somewhere about shutter speed/aperture/ISO etc.. its on here somewhere. Just basically get reading and keep shooting. The fresher it is in your brain the more you will remember! Oh and congrats on the new purchase. Welcome to the Canon club!

Before you post up photos, make sure to take a photo with the UV filter off and see if it makes a difference. Shoot the SAME thing, on a tripod/somewhere you can rest the camera so there is no camera shake. E.g. Kitchen Bench, put something in front and focus on it, 2/10 second timer and do not bounce/vibrate the camera. Do the same thing with and without the UV filter. I suspect it might be the UV filter and user error

It's because its Nikon But seriously. Changing camera settings and cleaning the sensor won't help. I need to see example photos as well. Hard to help you out without them, but you said you'll post them up later tonight. I need settings of each photo as well. Low-light conditions, depending how dark, this will mainly be because of camera shake. E.g. Camera setting the shutter at 1/30th or something, ISO 800, flash at full power. The lens could potentially be soft around the edges but it still shouldn't matter if the entire image is blurry. Could be the aperture is set wide open and its soft and you need to stop down to f/5.6. Are you using a UV Filter? Could be the cause. Take it off. See if it gets better. Have you cleaned the lens? Is it dirty? Did you use cleaning solution on the lens? Always only use a microfibre cloth to clean. So many variables. I'd try shooting in AV/TV/M to eliminate user error. E.g. Today is extremely bright and sunny. Shoot in manual. I'd guess the light today would be around 1/400th, f/8, ISO 100. But still.. Need example photos and settings to go along with them

Yep, i set it at 11 so if i need to change things the next morning its alright hahaha. But i might make it earlier. Cheers! Yeah my mates hilux. They are all tree-loppers so if tracks were blocked/too narrow.... Out came the chaninsaws and timmmbbeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
-
If you were subscribed to my blog you woulda seen them already But here ya go. I'll post more of the extreme shots later on, i was too tired and just wanted to get project 365 out of the way. But fcuk me suspension is amazing. Nearly rolled twice as well, it was awesome! I Was in the blue hilux. Had about 200kg+ in the boot full of gear plus the roof car tent. My mate in the silver hilux, fell straight into a hole in a river crossing and almost rolled, got stuck, took us 2 hrs to get him out and cutting down of tree's and getting extremely saturated and muddy! All this = Awesome weekend.

Friggin sweet shots guys Sidd - I can tell right now that your logo is like that because its an image on a white background and your just copying and pasting it on and your marquee selection is getting free transformed or something? 1. Open the image with your logo on it. 2. Copy it to a new layer - MAKE SURE ITS TRANSPARENT 3. Make it however you want. 4. Save it as a PNG (there will be no background, only the logo). 5. Should be fixed! Maikul - It works by taking a long exposure, painting the car with a light source and as long as you move fast enough you wont ghost in the photo.
-
Wtf is going on here lol, i swear Jap's are all decepticons inside!

Take a single raw shot, adjust the exposure +1/2/3 stops and -1/2/3 and merge them together. Its up to you whether you get enough dynamic range out of 1 stop, 2 stop or 3 stop. You can use photoshop and smart objects. Open the raw folder and before you press "Open image" hold shift. This allows you to re-open the same image within the image (Instead of opening the image 3 times). Then use layer masks to put the sky in, the foreground, your subjects, whatever you want! It's how i did the rolling shots above. Love smart objects! I use Photomatix Pro for HDR's that i have bracketed for, you can also put a single RAW file in and generate a HDR image (It will ask you how many stops you want to pull it up and down). Once combined and tone mapped, i will put it in photoshop for extra treatment. Hope i've helped you!

Sweet shots! Good attempt for a first HDR. Try and setup for a proper shot and try some HDR out. I like it because it looks natural and not way over the top like most are. As Matt said, that BW portrait looks sweet Barra! Should frame that one up!

Hahaha yes. Yes it was a compliment

Comp I'm Involved With... You Guys Should Enter
FST513 replied to funkymonkey's topic in Photography
Fcuk! I forgot to enter! That storm shot with the ship on fire is amazing! Or is that the novel cover? Either way, mad shop!!! About 3 weeks ago i had a dream where i did enter and i woke up and was like yeah, i entered but turns out i never did Ah well. Congrats to the winners! -
That wave shot is sweet! I'd 100% say in the water due to the swell just in front of the camera rising. Looks like this is a reef as well so definitely would need about a 100000mm lens lol. SWEET SHOT! Love the HDR's slim, keep it up! Totes imagined you to look like that as well!! Haha. Sweet matt! Loving that collage frame.

Blog post up: Blog post Lol. Nicks a naughty boy now

Lol why is it that we process the same shots every night? Hahahahahaa. Makes us look like bum chums It is weird seeing myself in a video, but at least it details what we did. Didn't realize how big the octa looks in a vid! Need more BTS videos for photography me thinks!
-
Video is sweet Eric! Weird seeing myself in video's

Works for me using it as a normal user? Don't have any troubles on 3 work computers here. Maybe its your computer. Clear the cache/history, and try a different browser perhaps, but they all work for me Alternatively, i've uploaded it to flickr as well but everytime i try to insert the photo it doesn't let me :S Anyway check www.flickr.com/koryleung

Sweet, looking forward to seeing it Eric

Lololololololol +2 (Get it?) Press "J" and it is defaulted onto content fill. It works with some things, just gotta get used to what it can fix good and what needs retouching. If your using CS5 jay, start bashing that mofo!!
