Reading this is really tempting me......this was the turbo I had planned to get orginally. But after hearing a few cars I was determined to get a larger turbo with a screamer pipe......god I love that sound. HI Shonen, The good thing about this kit is you don't have to modify anything - everything just bolts up and if you want no bling (like me) you can even fit the standard airbox. Screamer pipes sound good for sure but it'd get pretty annoying after awhile - especially if your wastegate opens in front of the police - the perfect way to get a defect. And fitting a larger turbo on a custom manifold would be a nightmare - there's not that much space there - the only aftermarket exhaust manifold I'd go for would be a cast HKS item or similar. Cheers

as no gasket comes in the kit, or is even available, and make sure to add a washer between the heat shield and the dump pipe around the top stud AND use some sealant, as we had a problem that the afforementioned washer fixed. (reason is the heatsheild flange is forked, not round, and air leaks from the stud hole out the forked bit of the heat shield bolt flange! Hi Sly r33 Very impressed with the dyno result! How are the new cams? Is the idle very different? We used coppermix sealand on the dump - hope it holds up! A few people on this forum have recommended it. Maybe the reason why you have a leak is that copper wire probably has a small leak where it has a break?? I'm just really hoping we have no problems otherwise it'll be hit the spanners again!!! On a good note I took it for a drive this afternoon with the new down pipe installed along with tech edge lamda sensor unit - good to check the AFR's as I won't be able to get it tuned until next saturday. Man this new turbo comes onto boost hard, and it feels just as responsive as the standard turbo! I didn't go past 40% duty cycle on the injectors - the top end must be pretty impressive! Knock levels were fine too. I just can't wait to get the tune done now. Cheers!

Buy, Build & Use A Tech Edge A/f Ratio Meter
gtst25 replied to Sydneykid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just ran up the 2E0 in my r33 gtst today. In total the kit took dad and I about 8 hours of working out where everything goes and soldering etc. Must say we both were pretty surprised when the unit worked no problems - I'm not that good at soldering and this was my first circuit board! It's very rewarding when it fires up though - we haven't tried any of the datalogging software as yet though - would be interesting to compare notes with you SK if you've got yours up and running. Where we put the bung for the sensor worked out really well as you don't have to jack the car up to install it and the heat shielded cable can run up through the engine bay, out the back of the bonnet and through the passengers window really neatly and discreatly. I haven't used a lambda sensor before and it was interesting at cruise to turn off the oxygen sensor and see how much the AFRs changed - on my car it didn't change much at all as the Apexi is tuned to run aroung the 14.7 14.8 AFR at cruise. When the 02 sensor is on I also noticed it seems to change up and down a bit more as it is allways trying to get to stolich. Also with my new 550 cc injectors and turbo upgrade I was keen to see what the afr's were but they are pretty spot on at stolich for cruise and about 11.7 under medium load - no knock so I'm happy as I have to wait until the 3rd december for the tune. Cheers! -
For prices just goto nengun or greenline. I got the smaller AR exhaust housing - .68 I think it was - I wanted the bigger one but it doesn't come in kit form with the bigger housing.

Apexi - Power Fc Boost Controller Kit
gtst25 replied to mnbvcxz690000's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
No problems with mine either. My stock turbo rb25det came onto boost a lot earlier than before (bleed valve) - made it really nice and responsive around 100km/hr in 5th etc. Good that it works in with the pfc too and held boost as good as the stock turbo could manage. Will see how it copes with a turbo upgrade over the next week. I doubt the guys who've had problems have installed/tuned theirs properly - or they have rare defective boost controllers Cheers -
Hi all, Just installed a hks 2835 pro s in my r33 - just thought I'd post up some pics of the install. It took dad and I all day today from removal of the stock turbo to turn key new turbo to do the install. The kit was pretty easy to fit - quite a bit fiddly getting everything fitting right though as there is a lot of adjustment - you can turn the compressor cover and turbine cover any way so it takes a bit of patience that's for sure. The new intake pipe doesn't line up (miss by a couple of inches) with the stock airbox so we cut a short length off the standard rubber intake pipe and it fits ok - no problem for someone running a pod though. Also took a some comparison photos of the stock rb25 det to 2835. This was a great turbo for me - made good power and didn't miss a beat. Will be puttering to the exhaust shop tomorrow to get the down pipe made and probably dyno later on in the week. Something I haven't heard though is a turbo spin for ages like this one after turning off the engine. Pretty cool - can't wait to get the tune done and see how it goes! Cheers

I was thinking about getting a 300ZXTT. Something I was going to factor into the purchase though was spending about 5 k - pulling out the engine myself - doing turbos, intercooler, injectors, clutch, heater hoses etc. As far as I know the computer can be reprogrammed. If not do a PFC. Would be a weapon and I love the look of them. I think better than the r33 even - got that exotic look - very sexy car and a lot have nice leather interiors. Don't need to get the wheels perfect either - I find it hard to get a perfect wheel/tyre combo for a '33 Cheers

Something else to add: Drive 10km/hr below the speed limit until you reach the overtaking lane, then speed up to 120 just to make sure no one can get past. Especially if you drive a small gutless car which can't get up the hills..... Good thread - I didn't realise how bad it all is getting until I went travelling overseas!

Unless you plan to do a lot of circuit work / drag racing I see no need for a surge tank. You can even get away without having one as long as you keep your fuel tank full. I doubt you'll have any fuelling problems - it anything it will probably run rich - I know of guys that run a standard r31 non turbo pump in tank and use a bosch external in high hosepower applications. Your external will give you plenty of fuel pressure.

Importing From England
gtst25 replied to gtst25's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Just had a look online on the Australian trading post and could only find one diesel peugeot, and no VW golf diesels. Also just had a look at the friday add here in England and there's quite a few peugeot turbo diesels going for under 3000 pounds, and one was a 2003 model! Also got a performance car magazine, and they did a performance buyer hot hatch test. One of the hatches tested is the Peugeot 206 HDI GTI, which has a 1.6 litre turbo diesel, 110bhp,180lb/ft torque, 58 MPG - with a purchase price of 13770 pounds after 3 years it will be worth only 4900 pounds.... -
Importing From England
gtst25 replied to gtst25's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Yeah I'd never purchase an old car here. I was just impressed in how easy the car was to drive. I'd love to go for a drive in a new VW tdi golf - I've heard they are pretty quick. -
Just in the UK at the moment, and yesterday hired a turbo diesel peugeot. It was a new car with only 2000 miles on the clock and man I was impressed with the performance! Not as good as my r33 of course BUT it only used 15 litres of diesel for 198 miles of spirited driving! I didn't believe the trip computer when it said 58.5 miles per gallon but at fuel up time it was comfirmed. So I was just interested in if anyone has looked into importing cars from the UK or do it at the moment? Also I haven't ever looked at turbo diesel cars available in AUS - it's not a thing I've ever been interested in. Just that cars depreciate in price very quickly in England - 2-3 year old cars go for 80% less than when they were purchased new. With the way that car handled/drived I'd have no worries having it as a daily driver - the modern turbo diesel comes onto boost at about 1600 rpm and you can be really lazy, chugging along in a higher gear than normal. Taking off from lights is effortless and you leave a lot of similar sizes petrol cars for dead. Anyway - I'm interested in what other people have to say! Cheers

I've got an r33 series 1 in white that might be allright. When we got married we had VL's, a hot NA, an injected V8 and a turbo. It's really fun to have modified cars at a wedding! Cheers

From my experiences the only different one is the rb25 pump.\ If I were you I'd just get the holden one - mind you that is a pretty expensive price you've got there - I'd look a bit harder. Cheers

That quarter of a tank business is a load of rubbish - it just depends on how good the installation is. You've got to get the pump as low as possible in the tank. So many people install aftermarket fuel pumps in tank and don't do the job properly. I even saw someone on these forums mount his in tank onto the factory fuel pump mount with DUCT TAPE!! Working in the fuel tank of an r33 is a real bitch - the fumes kill half your brain cells and you'll have no skin left on your fingers. I did an 044 in tank into my r33 - If I were you I'd put my pump in line - it's just too easy. I have no problems getting over 500 k's to a tank and can run it down to empty. Don't know about this talk of bosch pumps not working well with skylines - I've had no problems but mine runs flat out all the time without the factory speed control.

Yeah - ıt's ages away! I thınk I'll start another thread when the tıme gets closer. BUT - ıt would be great ıf a heap of cars from SAU turned up - last tıme I went ıt was spot the skylıne - there were tons of old holdens etc but only three or four skylınes. Cheers

Buy, Build & Use A Tech Edge A/f Ratio Meter
gtst25 replied to Sydneykid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hı SK Just read your reply ın the other thread AFR'S and good old knock - I purchased the 2e0 kıt about two months ago (about 350AUD ıf I remember rıghtly) but wıll have to waıt untıl december when I arrıve back from overseas to assemble ıt. It'll be great to compare - I was lookıng at the LM1 from Amerıca but ıt was all gettıng a bıt too expensıve for what we need ıt for. Cheers -
Air/fuel Ratio's And Good Old Knock!
gtst25 replied to williamsf1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
. Enough of the side track, back onto the main subject of this thread, A/F ratios and knock. When I am involved in the tuning of one of the race cars, I calibrate the lambda sensor before and after we do the tuning. That way I can be sure we are seeing consistent results, with reliable A/F ratio base data. This may be a bit extreme for a retail shop, as they would have to charge for the calibration time. My 20 cents worth for now cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hı SK, Just ınterested ın how a tunıng shop calıbrates a lambda sensor? I thought you have to do somethıng lıke blow pure oxygen through ıt say for a zero readıng and go from there? Just ınterested as I just purchased a 2E0 kıt from tech edge. Cheers G -
I've personally fıtted an 044 ın tank ınto my r33. A total bıtch of a job though - I've spoken to a tuner who's been tunıng a lot of hıgh powered skylınes sınce the late 80's and he's allways used the standard fuel pump as a lıft pump and gone an external 044 or whatever - no problems. If I dıd ıt agaın that's what I would do - when you sell the car you can easıly remove your good fuel pump ıf you lıke. That saıd I've had no problems wıth fuel starvatıon from low tank levels wıth my 044 - depends on how you fıt ıt - you've just got to get ıt as low ın the tank as possıble and don't forget to keep the check valve so your fuel system ıs allways prımed. Cheers

Well just looked at the calander - how does saturday the 10th december sound? Should have my car ready by then for sure and the next weekend ıs probably too close to chrıstmas for most people. Anyway ıt'd be great to see a few cars from SAU there. Cheers
-
Defınately - anyone's welcome. Wıll probably be after the fırst couple of weeks as I've got to fıt and tune. The more the merrıer!

Hı all I'll be back from overseas ın december and tunıng my r33 gtst wıth new upgraded turbo etc. Just wonderıng ıf anyone's ınterested ın takıng your cars out to Wıllowbank sometıme ın dec/jan? Allways good to see plenty of skylınes out there maybe to race agaınst etc - wıll have a few mates from the goldy comıng wıth sılvıas and commodores but no skylınes as yet! Cheers

Air/fuel Ratio's And Good Old Knock!
gtst25 replied to williamsf1's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Got to agree there, As I'll be installing/getting tuned my 2835 pro s soon I'd like to learn as much as possible. I don't think too many tuners will say much as they wouldn't like to give anything away. Also just purchased a wide band oxygen sensor, and although I'll be getting it tuned professionally I'll use it to check things out every now and again. Interestingly I also had issues with my stock injectors when doing my first tune with the stock turbo - shouldn't be a problem now though with new nismo's. -
No idea about race teams - a normal number from what I've seen is 14.7:1 for closed loop (apexi pfc) and under full load 11.9:1, although I've heard people say they lean out to 12.5:1? @ full load - guess it depends how safe you want your tune. There's a good topic on tuning with a pfc in the stick forced induction quick reference guide at the top of this section.
