If you're going to rebuild it'd be interesting to see how a gtrs goes with rb30 bottom end/bigger cams!

I got sixes then mate/tuner said take them back and get sevens - it won't hurt. I've had no probs running sevens with stock boost even on cold mornings and there's room for improvement next time we tune and up the boost.

RTHIRTY3 Got the parts from the local bearing shop which deals with anything from excavator, chainsaw or car parts/bearings. Any local bearing parts dealer which deals with NSK bearings should be fine. Don't exactly know the name of the store - if you really want it I can email my dad. The bloke can send stuff by mail. The prices were around $56 for the idler and $76 for the tensioner - once again if you want to know exactly I can email my dad. It saved me a lot - genuine was really expensive. No problem at all with the parts - sit them next to the factory ones and they look exactly the same. Dad's rb20 has got idler/tensioner from the same place too and it does a lot of miles.

When looking for fire and theft every company I went to only would pay out 4 grand???!!!! This was in QLD jan 2004.

Insurance for a '33? $145 for me - 3rd party. 25 year old fella, RACQ. If I crash it I'll fix it. Never could afford fully comp - you could do so much to you car for the amount they charge!!! Hell - a body shell if a complete write-off isn't that expensive.....!

I wouldn't be looking at doing engine conversions into old cars. Having done this myself when 18 the results were good ( rb20 into vh commodore) but a hellava lot of hard work for a result that just didn't compare to an import.(brakes, handeling etc.) Next car I got was a ca18 s13 silvia - bought for 5500 uncomplied and once registered/complied 7500. Silvia turbos are great bang for buck - if you look hard enough you should get a good one. Now I own a r33 turbo - cost 17300 - immaculate when I bought it (still is) probably not as cost effective as a silvia/r32 for modification but much more refined. So read-up, look hard and don't rush into anything. As far as I'm concerned 11500 is absolute top dollar for any s13. Good luck

yeah I'm interested if looking at $160

Thanks sydney kid, So, have you run into the two different size fittings on the '33's?(gtst) Or are they all the same? Cheers!
-
Also - can anyone recommend any good value bosch fuel pump distributers in Australia?

Yeah - the bloke worked at chiptorque for 7 years and knows more than anyone I've ever met about tuning skylines. -
I want to purchase a big fuel pump for my r33gtst - someone told me that there are two different sized pump hose fittings for the 33 gtst's. Is this true? I need to know as I'm on the other side of the world - when I get home I won't be home for long so obviously don't want to be waiting for a pump which could take a day or a month to get there, and as I'm on the other side of the world I can't look inside my fuel tank! So - has anyone run into this or is it BS? Cheers!

To buy R33 GTSt or 89 GTR?
gtst25 replied to old_mate's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
both probably the same on fuel depending on how you drive. I bought a r33 but am regretting it a bit as they are a bit big in comparison to the 32 (to drive that is) and if you get a gtr you can get a lot more grunt for your money. Some blokes on this forum are getting 260rwkw at the wheels with stock turbos - you wouldn't get that in a fit with a r33 gtst. I had a lot of trouble looking for a mint 32 though so went the 33. Patience is the key! -

Yeah I bought from nengun - probably ordered at the wrong time but it's here now - got a bit held-up from the Japanese holiday. I also got the electronic boost controller and nismo adjustable fuel pressure reg. -

Good one mate. Dad's picking up my pfc tomorrow from registered post so we're looking foeward to plugging it in and having some fun! -
My dad and I installed an rb20 into a VH commodore five years ago and gee I wish we had the information available to us back then! We had to spend 50 dollars on a crappy wiring diagram from someone down south and it ended up being the wrong one. No money back for that one - wish we were on the internet back then - we would've got it going in a matter of days not months... It ended up going much better than the red moter it had in it previously (obviously) but one of the downfalls was the tall commodore diff gears - I had 3.45's. You'll need at least 4.11's if you don't want lag between the gears. Anyway - good luck!

You mean waterpump don't you?? Depends on the conditions I 'spose - you'll find out soon enough when you get it going again.

1016AUD for a apexipfc+handcontroller new from nengun -
When I bought my '33 it had a leaking shockie and the previous owner had to change it. No probs - if you want a cheap short term fix-up just stick a second hand good condition shockie in.

I just ordered a new apexi pfc/hand controller with electronic boost control solonoid for 1520 AUD delivered. Worth having a look at www.nengun.com if you're looking for a computer. -
I haven't done this but you'll have to remove the camshafts which means timing belt, harmonic balancer etc. Pretty big job. Am thinking about doing this myself one day soon too so have looked into it a fair bit. Might be worth trying an engine flush before you pull it to bits. What oil are you using? Sometimes when you change brands you get lifter noises until you've done a few oil changes. Just wondering where you got the new lifters and for how much? Good luck anyway!

Another interesting point when working on the fuel system is to remove the fuel pump fuse and start the engine letting it starve ( only takes a few seconds) to get the pressurised fuel out of the system. Cheers!

I posted the part numbers a few weeks ago so you can buy the idler and tensioner cheap from a bearing shop instead of genuine. The post was headed fiddly stuff if you want to do a search - I'd advise you to get a new idler + tensioner and look at waterpump too while it's all apart. Don't know about crank/cam seals - my dad's rb20 had done over 200000k@s with no probs. As far as waterpumps I know my rb25 won't take the vl rb30 one - you'll have to go genuine and expensive unless you want to drill and tap but the rb20's will take the vl pump as dad and I did just that. Apparently the rb26's take the vl unit too but don't quote me on that Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll order the nismo item and 044 pump. I've been told there's two different inlet sizes on the pumps in the '33s - has anyone else found this? The injectors i'm running at the moment are stock but I plan to get some nismo 740cc ones in conjunction with a turbo upgrade after we tune the pfc, but that'll be awhile away. Still waiting on the pfc but when we dyno I want the fuel system up to scratch as it was leaning out last time with stock boost/computer. Anyway - hope to post up a dyno graph soon!

Gidday fellas, I'll soon be purchasing a big pump + adjustable press reg for a series 1 r33 and am interested as to what people are using on their '33s. Got in touch with a company called Powerflow awhile ago and got some good prices on in tank bosch 044's. I've seen a few press regs in nengun's site - one there looked good which is a nismo item - adjustable and looks very similar to the stock '33 unit. (great price too!) Just wondering if anyone has purchased one of these and are happy with the result? Anyone use any other products/can recommend anything for me? ie Sydney kid with that r34 that made 265rwkw? Thanks!!

Black smoke after power fc install - HELP!!
gtst25 replied to greddy_monstor's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I once accidently left the O2 sensor disconnected on my silvia after working on the exhaust manifold and it blew out HEAPS of black smoke. Only thing I can think of is you might damage your cat if you decide to drive. Bugger if you've damaged it - they're expensive to replace aren't they??
