What About The Tensioner Pulley Bearings For The Cam Belt??? There Are A Lot Of Things That Can Make Squealing/squeaking Noises - A Lot Of Bearings On The Front Of A Skyline.... Water Pump, Air Con, Pwr Steering Pump, Alternator, Starter Motor, Cam Shaft Pulleys. Vvt Can Make A Bit Of A Noise As It Pumps-up Too If Left For A Week Or So. Bit Of A Worry Really Especially If You're Not Really Mechanically Minded - A Lot Of People Change The Cam Belt But Overlook The Idlers. My R33's Weren't Much Chop After 80000k's. A Snapped Timing Belt Wouldn't Make Your Day Very Nice.

user manual for apexi Power FC hand controller
gtst25 replied to GTRedline's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Good stuff.... Food for thought while I wait for my pfc -
I had a ca18 det in a silvia and can't say anything bad about them - in fact I reckon it was faster than my r33 after a few basic mods. Light cars shouldn't be overlooked!

Me three!

I'd be interested in the part number! I'd like to see how it all comes together as I'm thinking about hi-flowing also. Cheers!

Tensioner NSK 60TB0683 EA7L 806 Idler NSK 56TB2801B01 ENSL 309 Hey fellas My dad and I looked into pressing out the bearings and putting in new ones but it looked like you'd have to be really skillfull not to wreck the whole thing. A bloke in Gympie QLD who's got all the right gear did it and the bearing lasted about a week and we all know what the bad outcome of a seized tensioner would be. So we just bought the parts. The price was about a third of genuine so we were happy. Another little blunder we ran into was the WATERPUMP. Dad's rb20's pump had a hernia and a VL one fit perfectly but on my '33 a bolt hole is different so you'd have to drill and tap a hole to suit or just buy the expensive r33 pump. Apparently on some 25's the VL pump fits but on mine it didn't. My car has only done 80000 so I'll leave it a bit longer. That timing belt price is excellent. Where from??? Dad just paid over 100 bucks for one as he couldn't source one cheaper.

I thought it'd all just go down the exhaust. The exhaust wheel/s are the only ceramic parts aren't they?

I'll have the numbers in a couple of days - easier to do it before you pull everything apart eh?

After owning a couple of imports now I've come to realise that some parts etc may be hard or expensive to get. Here's a couple of little jobs some of you might want to do in the near future. ELECTRIC AERIAL My silvia had a horrible grinding noise when using the electric aerial. I've seen a lot of silvias and a few skylines where they've had to replace the aerial for a cheaper piece of junk. One day mine just stopped half way down and I decided to have a go at pulling it apart and clean/lubricate it if possible- it took a couple of hours and when finished it worked like new. I used diesel and detergent to clean everything once apart and a white silicon based electrical lubricant when re-assembling. The workings inside were filthy with that black stuff you see in the engine bays etc - this clogged-up everything. Skylines look like they've got the same aerial - my r33 hasn't given any problems yet but I'll probably do it one day. HEATER HOSES On the silvia I had one blow and after spending weeks clocking up a phone bill looking for new ones ( couldn't find anyone in QLD back then) I pulled the whole lot off and went to repco to see if anything matched. The ones around the back matched with VN commodore and Camira parts exactly - and only cost about 20 dollars! CAMSHAFT BELT IDLER PULLEYS Did the cam belt in the '33 and got some pretty wild prices from nissan for the idlers - ended up going to a company which specialises in bearings - they took the numbers and had the parts overnight. I saved around 200 dollars here - it gives you a feeling of satisfaction when you get a big saving after doing the job yourself and hunt around a bit! Anyway hope this helps a bit if anyone's mucking around doing these jobs - it all helps! I'd be interested in any other helpful tips from other owners so post away if you like!

Clutch noises on rb20det!!!
gtst25 replied to BarnyR32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Had the same noise in previous rb20, ca18 and current r33 - when you let the clutch out in neutral you have a 'whirring' noise - I allways hear it in my dad's corrigated iron shed where it echoes. Just the g/box input shaft bearings I'd say as long as it's not too loud - after all the shaft/gears are spinning in there. If it happens when the clutch is in it'd be the clutch throw-out bearing. Hope this helps -
Room in back of a R32 skyline??
gtst25 replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I looked at this when buying a skyline - the 33's seem to have a bit more room. I can comfortably have four people in my 33 2 door - apparently they have the same floorpan as the four door. Goto a few caryards so you can see for yourself - personally I like the 32's more but they are getting a bit long in the tooth. -
I read an old zoom article where JMS removed the moter/g/box in a 33 gtr from the bottom. It sounded easy with a hoist - if you don't want scratches I'd say it'd be the way to go. I've done it a lot of times from the top and always said I'd like to do it from the bottom if I had a hoist...!

I'd go the 32 - I wanted the 32 (gtst) when looking but got a 33 because of the immaculate condition it was in. I've driven a few 32's and was impressed in the interior layout - small, really neat and functional. My 33 even though a gtst feels much bigger and less nimble. For racing I'd get a 32 - my favourite!

I can't fit the front bar on now i installed fmic
gtst25 replied to SKYZER 33's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
I had to trim off the little pipes on the blinkers on my '33. Shit of a job on the steelwork as I didn't have the right tools ( u never have when you need them). If I did it again I'd try a nibbler or air saw etc. -

Still got loud "click". Pls Help!
gtst25 replied to timbar32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'd say check the unis on the driveshafts - had a similar noise on a silvia. Either that or on of the tailshaft unis. -

Keep it civil guys Thanks, Shan -
Have you installed a cd player recently? There's a earth in the loom which turns into a positive ( I'm no sparky) when you turn on the lights. This blows the fuse for the taillights and dashboard when you turn on the headlights - I did it 5 years ago on a silvia and this year on my 33 when installing cd players -you'd think I'd learn. Anyway - it's a easy mistake to do - check your fuses.

I had a ca18det silvia a couple of years before my current r33 and I reckon it was a more enjoyable drive in some ways - lightweight and I reckon felt really torquey too. My girlfriend could potter around roundabouts etc in fouth gear and not look silly. Great cars for someone who wants to go really fast/not too much outlay I reckon! Sort of wish I modified it more before selling... Would've been fun

My dad and I have installed two standard rb20's in different cars and none had blow-off valves like that. Not a very clear picture but definatly not the factory set-up.

Thanks Denton 33 for the info on the tracking number - I didn't know what it was and no reply from my emails. They probably have hundreds of them (emails) coming through so don't have time to answer. I'll look on the site you gave me - thanks!

I ordered a apexi pfc + boost controller - they sent me an ems number - I was unsure of whether it was the engine management number or what?? sounds like it's a shipping number so it must be on its way?? Was only a week and a half ago - emailed them but no reply - so it's definatly a shipping number and the products are on their way?

I'd put my money on something around the coil packs. I've had three rb engines so far and all had a problem of some sort with them.
