Well lets see how the Hero 3 handles it, apparently the sound has been completely recreated, it's the whole point we buy these small cameras.

The sound is no different on either of them, i've had both. I switched from gopro to the contour+ just to get the external mic option. The mount has nothing to do with it, sticking a camera with an internal mic on the roof of a car doing 50-200kmh is the problem.

An external mic is just a pain in the ass, i have 1. These types of cameras are used for extreme sports, majority of which are at high speed meaning that the sound is almost completely unusable.

maybe that have stopped working on video quality and started working on sound quality?

Try using VLC or Windows Media Player Classic, if that doesn't work update the video codec packs, if all else fails update your video card drivers.

The difference is....... the "trackday" guys with road registered cars drive them to the track. The guys with "race cars" tow them to the track....that is about the only real difference.

You said GT1 cars.......looking at the GT1 grid (which is near extinct and likely won't even exist next year) we have: Aston Martin DBRS9 Audi R8 LMS Ultra BMW E89 Z4 Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 Ford GT Lamborghini Gallardo LP600 McLaren GT MP4-12C GT3 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 Porsche 911 GT3 R ......all of which are 2 door sports cars and you are comparing them to Ford and Holden 4 door family cars worth about $40k in the road going version.

Do you want to mount the mic outside or inside the car? I bought a $10 mic from Jaycar to test with my Contour+ and did 1 lap of the block using the cam's mic mounted outside the car than another lap with the jaycar external mic mounted inside wrapped around the passenger door handle and the sound was 1000% better.
