  1. by the way, the Grid II's I bought are made in japan, the guy at the tyre shop said that the jap made ones were better than the aussie made ones.. but thats probably bs. Does anyone actually know if they are better? the only way that I could see them being better is if perhaps the compounds were different but I doubt that somehow...
  2. I've heard approx $4000, give or take.

  10. just thought I'd just give you an update. the skyline's been in brizzy for a while now chillin in customs. It's being picked up at the brizzy terminal for transportation to Melbourne on monday, so I'm expecting it to be in here on Thursday or Friday :D:D
  11. thanks for clearing that one up scathing. I just bought 4 Bridgestone Grid II's 205/55R16 for $100 each, they were second hand and still have the spikey things.. Was good value so I got them. Has anybody tried the Grid II's before?
  12. congratulations dude, sounds like a pretty good result.
  13. ok, I always thought that you could engineer the car with modifications, but it is easier/cheaper to engineer the car in stock?
  14. You have to remeber that they are only brokers, they aren't selling the car personally so the only real differences in the landing prices should be their service fee. It's also good to keep in mind that the landing esimates including different things.. eg some don't include compliance others do. Also remember that there are things like shipping, GST and import duty where the price varies depened on what car you are importing, so the brokers can only estimate the cost. You'll find that some brokers have different estimates and sometimes these estimates also tend to be a little conservative and might overstate the expense, so you will often end up spending a little bit less or have a little extra money budgeted incase prices rise or something. Which payments are you talking about? With the original FOB payment, the supplier in Japan will send your broker the invoice, then your broker will forward the invoice to you. Then you pay the money directly to the supplier in Japan through telegraphic transfer. The customs broker will send you an itemized bill, which has all the customs and quarantine charges as well as shipping, Import Duty and GST. The payment to your broker is how you would do a normal payment (cheque, electronic transfer - whatever) as they are in Australia. Hope this answers your question.
  15. ok... The main known companies are Prestige Motorsport www.prestigemotosport.com.au and J-spec Imports www.j-spec.com.au. There is a thread in the Vic section with a list of importers too. The 15yr rule basically stated that any car over 15yrs old could be imported - however DOTARS have changed this and now the only way to import under these conditions is if your car was built BEFORE 1989.. I call it the pre-89 rule to save confusion. This means that you can no longer import r32gtst's because there were none that were built before 1989. BUT there is another importing scheme: SEVS Specialist and enthusiast import scheme (Im pretty sure thats what it stands for). There is a list with all the cars that quilfy to be imported under SEVS, One of which is the R32gtst. The advantage of SEVS is that you will most likely get a good quality skyline as all vechiles imported under SEVS must not have any previous accident history. Another advantage is that, as long as the car you are looking to buy is on the SEVS list, it can be made in any year.. this means you can get a 93' model r32gtst. The disadavantage of SEVS is probably compliance. Under the 15yr rule, you can have the car complied whenever, and by whoever (yourself even). But under SEVS there is a set time frame (I *think*) and you must have the car complied at a RAWS. At the moment there aren't that many RAWS that will comply r32's which makes SEVS compliance very expensive (3,000 to 4,000). Another disadvantage of SEVS, is that the car must be completely stock (right down to the rims) when applying for compliance, so it is very difficult to bring in a heavily modified car. To my understanding, one of the significant factors that will effect the time of shipping (if you consider it to be shipping) is what port you car is leaving from Japan. Not that long ago some ports, or one in particular kept on keeping private importers cars off the boats as larger companies (toyta) wanted to put their cars on the ship, which have priority over the private importers. But if you want to know the time it takes for actually sailing it takes about 12-14 days from Japanese ports to Brisbane. Once the car arrives it will be checked into customs, where AQUIS check your car for bugs and dirt that could be dangerous. Your car may need to be steamcleaned or have some sort of crazy powder put into the seats and stuff (don't know much about this). It is very difficult to say how much you will spend all up becuase you haven't specified what you want on your skyline (mileage, condition etc). But from a very very very rough estimate you *could* be looking at about $12,000-$15,000? thats landed and including compliance but not rego. Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong. You don't need an importing license. Hope this helps
  16. I think for many 'hoons' the 'H-plate' would be considered a trophy or achievment for everyone else to see. I always hear people bragging about the crazy things they did and they are always so proud of it.
  17. for those who were talking about the ADVAN Neovas... how have you found the wear? Do they last long? The reason I'm buying tyres however, is because I need some for compliance. Do you know if they the DOT or E4 marking on them (means they are ADR approved I believe).
  18. oops, forgot to add the attachment. It's there now. Both the black and the grey 32 seem to have that embossment thing going on...
  19. looked like you had a good time... can't wait to be able to get into this stuff. I noticed in this pic (see attachment) that the embossed 'skyline' is in grey. Is this a factory option or a custom job? Is it paint or stickers?.. I have the red stickering on the back of mine, it's a factory option too, except I thought it only came in red.
  20. very nice
  21. my car is coming over with 2 BOV's as well. I will most likley take the aftermarket blitz BOV off, because it is nice and shiny and sitting right at the front of the engine bay
