Pros and Cons to buying an import from a dealer.
foznice replied to Mr. Oizo's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I've *heard* that some buy accident repaired vechiles and sell them for normal prices so that their margins are bigger.. but thats what i've HEARD.. I'm sure there are plenty honest ones too -

well I have no idea what all this means.. I'm pretty sure it's because I listed a turbo timer.. I mean $350 for a turbo timer??? oh and 1200.. sh&t.. im glad I can count.. -
is it possible to get some sort of stuff on the windows that has a minium tinting effect.. as in I don't really care how much less light is let in but having something to stop people looking in the car.. If there was a way to get matt black windows that would look sweet me thinks.. maybe I'm just dreamin'

I actually like the star style lights on the r34's and I think Shans's version looks good as well.. I saw a set like this on yahoo auctions too.

I think no matter which way you park you will disrupt traffic anyway right? If you reverse park with the tail end to the curb you disrupt traffic while you do it, and you can pull out quickly and safely.. on the other hand of you park with the frontend to the curve and reverse out you will still disrupt traffic.. except this time it's a little harder to see who's coming..

I just got my quote back from justcars: r32gtst exhaust mods and aftermarket BOV, they quoted 660 for third party fire & theft... what shits me is the excess. it says 450 standard + 400 for being under 22 and under 25 + 350 for endorsements.. that's a $1150 excess... maybe I wrote something wrong, or aren't reading it right.. -
are these tyres legal?

not too sure, but the DOT and e4 marking mean it's ADR appoved I *think* -

tut tut tut. Nah I quite like the old school mr2's. She leaves tommorow (if all goes to plan) wooooooooooooooooooooot!!!!!!!!! -
I was thinking about this after I finished talking to you Sam and I was looking at pictures of my car. In this picture the car's idling but it looks the oil pressure guage is reading zero. I could be in the same boat as you guys.

thats no good Mark, how will you go about treating that? Is there any way of checking this without taking the seals out? (something I don't know how to do) Good luck with the repairs anyhow In other news, according to the kiwi website, the Hual Tropicana has been delayed 2 days!!!!!!!! so it leaves on wednesday instead of today :cuss: Thats the way importing is I suppose. -
the silver one might not have AM brakes, might just be red paint. Timing belts cost between 40-50 dollars but the labour can sometimes be expensive. But you said you had a mechanic in the family so it's probably ok. I'm going to change my timing belt when the car arrives, just for peace of mind. black r32's look sweet. But I agree with Gordon, I suggest you wait till they are both here, then go over them both with a toothpick and make your decision.

cs days.. I tried so hard last year or the year before, hell I can't even remember was back in the 1.5 days before steam anyways. I practiced on bots and everything and I got owned time after time after time mainly because of the shithouse 56k connection I had with a ping 400 or so might explain the problem, can't wait for BB. For those who play now is CS really bad for download limits? because I would love to get back into it

thanks Mark, getting so excited now. She leaves in 2 days!! jono, $2155? wow. Was the exchange rate really bad at the time? Its the only thing that I can think of, unless you had to get the car steam cleaned and powdered, but even then it sounds pretty high. -
someone was saying here somewhere that if you can find a way to make the previous jap owners to sign some papers you can get import approval under the personal import scheme. Don't know if it would be very easy or not coming from a dealer, or if it would work at all but something to think about maybe?

Compliance Time
foznice replied to madmurf's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
you can have the car complied/engineered until whenever, theres no time limit providing you have import approval before the changes to the 15yr rule (you obviously have) so it's free to chill in the shed. Hope this helps -
that sucks, how has the parcel shelf actually changed, was it really obvious? Sorry to hear that.

Current price for compliance.
foznice replied to Paradizzle's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I'm pretty sure you get to choose the tyres. As long as they are roadworthy and ADR approved they should be fine. -
svd164, I'm importing through J-spec at the moment and so far they have been nothing but helpful and honest and I would reccomend their services to others. dsteffe, would you be able to keep us posted on how you go with compliance? I'm thinking about having it comlied in Brisbane before I truck it down here.

D.i.y Compliance
foznice replied to DAN00H's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I still don't get this. As somebody said before, the requirements for 15yr compliance are for the ADRs.. the Australian design rules, so I don't understand why each state should have different requirements. I sent an email to a Victorian compliancer and he called me and said that it would be better to have the car complied in Brisbane when it arrives as it works out to be a good $400 dollars cheaper. Why would it be cheaper in Brissy??
