elizabeth, I don't know what the super sequential sounds like, but I always thought that all venting BOV's make a phhhhhhhhtshhhhhhhh sound or something along those lines. The flutter on the other hand, the woop woop woop, chi chi chi, flippy floppy flu, is becuase it goes back through the turbo which is bad. The reason why modr33s2 gets the flutter sound, is because the tightness of the valve is screwed so tight that there isn't enough boost pressure to actually open the valve in the first place and release the air. So the suond isn't actually coming out of the BOV, because it's not venting. Which means that BOV isn't actually doing its job, and you might as well just remove the BOV and block the opening with something as it will give you the same effect. If you lossen the scew on the BOV you'll hear the phhhhsssssssssh that you hear on the fast and furious lol, which is the BOV venting to the atmosphere (this is when it comes out of the BOV) and allowing the turbo to keep spinning. I would say that many aftermarket BOV's could be tightened so that the BOV will not vent under x amount of boost pressure.

for those of you who want the woop woop woop sound, or the flutter... all you have to do is stop your current BOV from opening in the first place. If the throttle plate closes, and all this compressed air has nowhere to go (because the BOV isn't opening) then the air goes backwards through the turbo while the exhaust gases are pushing the turbo forward = Very unhealthy. So the flutter sound is the turbo going backwards and forwards the pressure of the exhaust gases pushing against the compressed intake air.. and the sound comes out the filter, which is even louder and more audible with a POD. When GTST said that there are no BOV's that produce that sound, I think that he meant no BOV that you just install will give the flutter, because the idea of a BOV in the first place is that it vents all the compressed air. The reason why s14's and 15's make this sound is because when boost pressure is increased all the compressed air cannot escape fast enough through the plumback setup, so the air starts going through the turbo. I reckon flutter sounds cool, but the thought of what it's doing makes me shudder. The gtst I just bought comes with a blitz venting BOV which probably sounds cool, but I might change it with the stock one as the sound of the car definatly insn't a priority for me, and then I can't be done by police.. either that or ill try to hide it or something.

thanks rob, looks like some really nice cars there. Ok guys well we all know about the 15yr rule, but i managed to pick up something up yesterday afternoon www.j-spec.com.au/list/2223 ... well I'm really happy with it, because I was convinced that I'd missed out on it all together and I was cracking the shits and punching stuff and what not. Called J-spec and talked to craig about this car... I'd previously disregarded it because of the stuff abou the airconditioning compressor. Craig said that they actually have more details, and the comment about the aircon compresor had been removed, he said it was most likely a misinterperetation with the missing air con vent. I stressed to him that my number one priority was mechaincal soundness, and he said that the supplier was really trusted and were very thourough. He also said that he could arrange with the supplier, that we would purchase the car only if it was in excellent mechanical condition, he requested a test drive and another inspection just to make sure, and everything came through allright, import approval was submitted last night and i got the invoices for the car today. We also got 200dollars of the FOB price which is cool....I know it was a semi rushed decision but I feel i got a pretty good car for the price. -
well... im incredibly tense and on edge now.... theres one last chance.. a car that should be going for auction soon.. talked to ben not long ago and he said it was going on auction in half an hour... he said he would get back to me.. so if that car works out ok im going to bid on it. and if i win he said i can get import approval tonight.. if im very very very lucky.. fingers crossed everyone .. wish me luck

Import Approval/de-reg papers
foznice replied to danozgriff's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
thanks mmmgtir. I called ben at j-spec, he said that I should just submit import approval to DOTARS without the de-reg, so that it be processed before the 15yr rule ends.. then they contact us back later and ask for the de-reg. -
Import Approval/de-reg papers
foznice replied to danozgriff's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
How long exactly does it take for you to get a copy of the de-reg papers after you buy the car? Im trying to work backwards from when the 15yr rule might end (3rd or 4th wednesday of may) -

Yeah I have. I have a bout 10k total to spend, so if I bought that I would be pushing it to get it here as I have barley anymoney in reserve once you take the price of a mechanical inspection out. Probably wouldn't be the wisest thing to do, thanks for helping though -
Blade: I agree you don't by a performance car to drive like miss daisy, but I'm not buying one to fang on public roads either. I'm really keen to get my CAMS when I get my P's and do as much driving as track driving as possible as well as all the other training that I mentioned before. Like starionturbo said there is a whole lot of skills I don't have so I don't really want to be pushing my limits on public roads. Does everybody just turn into a hoon when they get their P's? I can't see myself instantly turning into a hoon the second that I get my P's but right now I feel really strongly about not being stupid on the road and all the crap the drivers of imports seem to cop from the general public and police. I'm not trying to argue either Kim/Blade, I think that many people that are driving high performance imports should't be, but at the same time I feel that there are people out ther that can be tursted with them. Kim: in your orginal post, you where talking about how you used to say anybody can hurt themselves in an excel etc etc.. Don't read this like I'm flaming or anything because I'm only asking.. but what changed your mind to make you think that more grunt is more dangerous.. as you know pieces of crap can make it past 120k's quite easily.

Could you elaborate on that a bit more please, because I don't understand what your saying. Do you mean that there is no way possible that you can own a high performance import and not be a tool on public roads? I can't see why not. Maybe it's because I haven't been there done that, but I can't see why being by yourself in the car would change your opinions, attitudes or they way that you think. I can see that for some people who want to drive like idiots can say : "no more mum/ dad, I can do whatever I want now"... I know that for me it's not going to be like being let off a leash because theres nothing that I want to do on public roads that I can't do now.

Thanks gordon, I'll let you all know how it goes. -
Starionturbo, I'm currently an L plater looking around to buy an R32 gtst now, and I think that being safe on the roads is a balance between the attitude that you have and the driving skills. By this I mean that many (many - not all) P platers seem to think that they can take corners etc much more fast than they really can. Many also seem to think that they are good drivers and that they can control the car at these speeds. These are examples of poor attitude. Combined with this is a lack of skills. Most P Platers can change gears, indicate, accelerate, break etc competently. But don't seem to know that when they increase the speed of the car, these factors change. I agree with you in that there are many P platers that aren't responsible, have the wrong attitude, poor skills and as a result crash their cars, hurt themselves, hurt other people and help bring the increasingly bad reputation of P platers and import drivers down. Maybe this is what the majority of P platers are like, I don't know what the statistics are, but I know that there are SOME responsible drivers out there, and that they/we whatever don't all think the same way. I think if the P plater knows their personal limits, as well as the cars limits and obeys the road laws, then there shouldn't be a problem. In regards to the "anyone can hurt themselves in an excel" thing, I believe that's debatable. I think that some people will drive like idiots regardless of what they are driving and cause damage, and others may feel more.... powerful? cool? in a performance car causing them to drive less sensibly. I've never been in a situation where I've tried to control understeer or oversteer so I'm not going to put myself in that situation (except for when I'm learning at a driving course). I plan on doing defensive driving courses and motorkhanas as well, and I can't wait to go to track days and really open up my car and enjoy driving it at its limits in a somewhat controlled environment. Been here on SAU has helped shaped my attitude towards driving. The incidents of EVLR34 and various other tragedies during my time here, has shown me that being irresponsible on the roads just isn't worth the risk, and that it spoils the satisfaction of being able to drive an import/high performance car for everyone. I honestly have no intention to drive irresponsibly and endanger my life, other peoples lives and the car that I worked my ass off to be driving.

Awesome photos tharaka! omg the fountains are back!!.. back in the days of year 9 me and my friends during lunchtime used to muck around in those fountains, we worked out the pattern when to be where. It was fun when because when you stuffed up you'd end up satched! and we'd get back to school and be wet as and the teachers would crack it at us.. then water restirctions came and as far as I knew that fountain has been dry ever since.... good times...

mainly HPI, but at many of the local newsagents it will come with a 2 extra mags which are usually old episodes of zoom and HPI... I bought and issue of speed also and I liked it especially their awesome photograpy which makes the photography in HPI look really amatuer. I think the content of both is excellent. Speed is a dollar cheaper also.. I can only buy one occasionly cause I'm saving for the skyline....

I really like the 12k prices, and I would be very happy to pay that here in Aus, but by the time that I can save up an extra 2k (I have 10k now), the 15yr rule will be long gone and I'm really worried that prices will shoot up... J-spec emailed me back about the oringal car in this thread, It has been sold during Golden week apparently, I don't know how as I thought all businesses where closed but it dosn't matter cause I don't want anything to do with rust anymore. -
I think that this depends on what part of melbourne your talking about. Stay out of knox. One memeber from here was from WA with his WA registered car and WA license, mr TMU pulls him over and immideatly recognises that his 32gtst has an RB25 inside. The driver copped a red sticker because he had P plates and was over the power/weight ratio

Gordon, where did you spot the 89skylines for $12k if you don't mind me asking? Also.. this is what I thought intially with my limited economic knowledge: that while there is a rise in supply at the moment, this is going to practically be cut off dead (as I doubt a 32gtst is really worth going through SEVS). Due to the limited supply and the constant rise in demand this would cause a rise in price?... But I'm probably wrong. Just talked to J-spec again, the guy I talked to said that there is a good chance that I can find something mechanically sound (through auctions and dealers) within in a range of 7-8k landed. I'm going to sign up with j-spec and get them to start looking through auctions and what not.. Not say that I'm going to the importing road yet, but if there's something that's good and not a rust bucket (like what I originally was looking at) then I might well take it... if nothing shows up that I feel confident about or isn't clean then j-spec will refund my money when the 15yr rule ends and I'll continue saving and buy a local... thats the plan at the moment anyway....
