Sorry but this had nothing to do with head gasket, and I don't even know where to begin with the comment about running a thicker gasket for 2.5x the original power of a motor. You can't be serious. *insert mega roll eyes*

Hey guys, As per title I have 2x rebuilt rb26 gtr turbos with steel exhaust wheels. Theses are a great upgrade over standard and enable you to run decent boost with mininal lag by keeping the .48 rear. Turbo's have not been used since rebuild and are ready to go. You can't really clean the injector yourself. You can remove the small top filter and then blow out with compressed air, but that's probably the extent of it. They need to be cleaned via ultra sonic, and you would most likely remove them all to have this done not just a single injector. If they have only been out of action for 2 weeks, then you will probably get away with just tapping on the body and getting it going again. If you are concerned about flow pattern etc, that's when you would remove them for cleaning. If it runs fine when you get no5 going, I personally wouldn't bother. -

Gummed up injector. Tap on the body with a screw driver, fairly common when they sit for a while not being used. Alternatively pull the CAS out, and with a multi/test light verify that no5 is getting correct current. -

Best Clutch For 400rwhp?

Every thing was used from the excedy kit, then when it started slipping weeks later, everything from the coppermix was swapped back on. Mate took it to a gearbox/clutch place in S/Brisbane who checked it out and re-fitted the excedy before we put the coppermix back on only to find it slipping on them too. People can rave about them all they like and tell me how they make OE clutches, I won't use one ever again and nothing will change that. I have fitted numerous clutches and have never had an issue with holding power bar the excedy. I understand alot of people here run them without issue, but when you get stung 4/4 times you can only really draw one conclusion. -

I would put my last dollar on the excedy slipping within 6 weeks at that power level. I have had multiple bad experiences with them. Gaurantee it. Anyway, not my car so I don't really care. -

I fitted a 5 puk excedy to a mates modified s15. Was supposedly rated to the power, was fine for the first 3 weeks then started slipping under boost. Chucked his old single plate copper mix back in, and it was all good. Can't say I was impressed with my first excedy clutch. Personally I run a older ORC twin plate in my 26/30 with the larger plates. If you don't mind a bit of rattle with the clutch in then it's all good. I don't know what your mates doing with his twin plate but there is nothing wrong with them, I would go twin every time on a high torque output vehicle. Otherwise if I had to go single it would be a JB clutch, and yes the man can talk underwater. -
I put a n1 kit through my own gtr turbo's, haven't had any issues at all. The shaft's come pre-balanced. Different to hi-flowing obviously, which you need different equipment for. Currently rebuilding a mates td0416h turbo of his volvo 850R using a genuine mitsi kit.

Yeah I know what your saying re no 5, I would have expected a different result there. Maybe take it to a reputable garage and have another test done, can't hurt having another set of results to compare with. Should cost sub $100, and you can then get another opinion as well. Was the test performed at WOT? Personally I think your looking at combined blow by across all cylinders. Not anything major, but enough to cause that amount of oil loss over x period of time. In any event, whether it's one cylinder, 2, or all of them, the end result is the same, it will need a rebuild in order to resolve it. If it's making good power and still pulls strong, then leave it for a bit longer and just watch your oil. You could even investigate running a different grade oil in order to minimize it. -

Yeah I thought that might have been the case. It would show different symptoms usually for turbo, as you have mentioned. It would more than likely get smoke on startup after leaving it overnight. Which would lead you to either stem seals or turbo, but the test there pretty much points to rings for me anyway, that will be the smoke under acceleration too. Did you perform your own comp test prior to purchasing? How long have you had it for? -

Looks like rings on a tired motor to me. What sort of mileage has it done? Have you checked intake piping for heavy oil residue? At least it will tell you if the turbo's are leaking comp side. -

Personally I would check the tolerances against factory minimum spec before you use it. I picked up a rb30 crank with 100,000ks on it, and the front main journal + no6 were both just out of spec. If they all measure in sort of mid range, then I would have a collar fitted then cleaned and grub screwed + balanced. You can find the journal minimum spec in the VL/R31 gregories service manual. That's my 2c anyway.

What you do is remove the fuel pump fuse then run until it dies, then with someone else helping remove the CAS, ign back on, and get them to spin it over. Then grab a flat screw driver and hold it against the body of the injector, then put your ear on the other end. You should be able to hear the injector pulsing on/off. It's not un-common for these to gum up after sitting for a while. We did a 25 conversion in a 31 once, and 5 out of 6 injectors were gummed up. Get your screw driver and gently tap the body of the injector, then it will start to go again.

Yeah the r31 S3 had the first gen square pan electronic boxes with controller under the passenger seat. All vl's are mechanical. Should be fine. -
Yeah these are known to be good. I was running an AU falcon coil with wasted spark & leads on my old 25/30. Worked OK but was only a streeter.
