R34GTT wheels won't fit R32
B0oStEr replied to B0oStEr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I wasn't aware of a brake caliper difference between 89 and 92 Mspec but there could be. Has he had his wheels off to check for scrape marks as they don't hit by much? -
R34GTT wheels won't fit R32
B0oStEr replied to B0oStEr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The TypeM caliper is too close to the centre part of the wheel not the outer rim part so the larger GTR rotor requires the caliper to be positioned further out giving the centre of the wheel more clearance. -
The GTT wheels rub on the front R32 typeM calipers. The way I see it I've got four options. 1. Fit a 3mm spacer to the front. (Probably not legal) 2. Shave 2mm off the edge of the calipers where they touch the wheel. ( $0 Quick and easy. They seem to have plenty of thickness but I don't like the idea of bodgying my calipers) 3. Have 2mm machined off the back of the wheels to clear the calipers. (Need to do 4 wheels so I can swap wheels front to back) 4. Fit R32GTR or R33 GTSt rotors and calipers.($$$) What do you think is my best option?

R34 GTT stock wheel size? Fit R32?
B0oStEr replied to B0oStEr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I tried fitting them today. Julzz was right, the fronts don't quite clear the TypeM caliper. A 3mm spacer would fix it but aren't these illegal? They only just touch as you fully tighten the wheel nuts. Actually there would be plenty of thickness in the caliper to shave about 2mm off the edge that touches the wheel. Is this too bodge? -
I've bought a set of rims and a couple have deep gutter scrapes. They are painted alloy so I just need to fill and smooth out the damage before I have them sprayed another colour. The damage has been painted over so it needs stripping or beadblasting before I attempt to fix it. What is the best way to repair the damage? What filler?

I'd like to know why the GTT turbos fail so often. Is the failure in the nylon impeller? It's easy to see how high EGT could transfer heat via the shaft, to melt the nylon impeller.

R34 GTT stock wheel size? Fit R32?
B0oStEr replied to B0oStEr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Has anyone here put GTT wheels on a R32 gtst before? Did they go straight on? -
Kits are available for the setup you've described. PWR told me they could do one for about $800. I don't know if it's on their website. Have a look www.pwr.com.au

R34 GTT stock wheel size? Fit R32?

Why might the front need a 3mm spacer. To clear the caliper? -
R34 GTT stock wheel size? Fit R32?
B0oStEr replied to B0oStEr's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Are you sure the offset is different front to back? I bought a set of GTT rims today and they are all the same. The offset seems to be 39 or 40mm. It's a bit hard to measure to the mm with the tyres on. From outside to outside the rims are 22mm wider than my 6.5" R32 rims so yeah, they are probably 7.5". Anyway they look like a 100% legal upgrade for the R32 -
R34 GTT stock wheel size? Fit R32?

I've tried to measure the offset of my stock R32 rims. It's a bit hard to be sure on the car but they seem to have 40mm offset. If my 6.5" R32 rims are 40mm offset and Gtt rims are 7" would 35mm be near the ideal offset? Does anyone know what the actual Gtt offset is? -
Is there much difference between these three turbos as an RB20 upgrade?

Compression test results on RB20... Help!
B0oStEr replied to Ed G's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A cold test is unreliable. The results you have aren't that bad and just passes the 10% variation guideline. Do the test warm and the results should be a bit closer. -
I'm not really worried about dyno numbers that much. I'm more interested in that push in the back you get from a nice phat midrange.

neil What % duty cycle would you have at 220KW 100%? Ronin Do you run your rb25 turbo @ 14psi everyday? I don't want to max everything out and wait for the bang I want to build my engine with a reasonable safety margin eg 15-20% ie run injectors 80-85% duty cycle and boost at 85% of maximum safe boost. At what KWs do injectors, fuel pump and AFM upgrades become necessary? What OEM rb cams are a straight bolt in upgrade for the R32 Rb20det? I've read GTR cams work and that ceffies have bigger cams. What about adjustable cam gears? Has anyone tried these mods on the Rb20?

meggala What's my best option for remapping the ecu? Do you have a part no. for a straight swap fuel pump upgrade? Joel Point taken about the VG30 turbo. What KWs can the 270cc stock injectors support at std fuel pressure? bbenny My original plans included an HKS 2530 but I thought I would spend less on the turbo initially and have money to make sure the support systems are up to it for a possible turbo upgrade later. I might leave the stock turbo in there until I find more money but I don't want to push it too hard because I think it sounds like it could be a bit worn. My plans are pretty flexible because I'll buy suitable bits and pieces as they become avaiable. Anyone got a nice exhaust system to get me started?

Ghostrider What is that bar? Not factory DR30 ironmask is it? It looks amazingly similar to a bar I built for my R30 hatch about 7 years ago. PM me if you reproduce these as I know some people who would be very interested.

I'd like to start collecting the bits and pieces necessary to achieve 200KW in my R32. I'm on a limited budget so I can't buy much big brandname stuff but I want to do it right. My plan is to use as many 2nd hand/ OEM upgrade bits off other models as possible. This is my incomplete shopping list. 2nd hand 3"Turboback exhaust with new Hiflow cat Turbo VG30DET/RB25 ballbearing? (Bolt on?) Rebuild/mods? R33 GTR or hybrid intercooler diy piping 440cc GTR injectors (cleaned/tested) and resistor pack Z32 AFM Fuel pump?(new one) model no.? Cams? RB25/26 crank and rods? Boost control? w/gate actuator? EBC ECU?(I guess reprogramming wouldn't be up to it) I'm still undecide about a few things like whether I need to change crank/cams etc Actually 200KW isn't that important. I'd be happy with a bit less if I had a big fat midrange without increasing the boost threshold too noticeably. Any suggestions or ideas about whether my planned mods are up to it or unnecessary would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been looking for a while. Let me know if you find something tasty.

Even if you could do most of the work yourself a conversion wouldn't be the cheapest way to get a turbo. Motor, G/Box, ECU wiring, exhaust, brake upgrade, engineer's certification plus whatever labour etc $2.6K won't get you anywhere near it. You might manage to pick up a tidyish import turbo for $5K I've seen a few auto Passages (4door pillarless) go for that money. Manuals and coupes are harder to find for that money. A very tidy manual coupe with a few mods and some nice wheels probably won't leave much change of $10K

Thanks for your offer. I'm looking for a car for my son to buy as his first car. He has seen your car in the for sale section. Where are you located? Where is the rust in the rear? How flexible are you on the price? Thanks Craig.
