Xtreme H/D ceramic clutch experiences
predator replied to Timd's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
must be installed incorrectly, you're running a lot of power, or some other problem. twin plates can destroy old gearboxes and drivetrains.. most cars I have seen running high power have got by quite successfully with the correct single plate clutch for their needs. -
Personally I'd put my trust in Skyline33, as he has been on here for a while... in fact a year longer than you have I've bought stuff from him before without problems..

R32 And Suspension Bushings... Need Help
predator replied to AzzurrA's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
It is hard though, especially with suspension. Nearly everthing is worn in some respect after some 10-15 years, but it's a matter of what is really important - and what you can afford. A place will usually always give you a big list. Also, whilst some bushes are doable yourself, some require the proper equipment to squeeze them in or set them up. And you can't really do the alignment or anything yourself. So even though I like to try and do as much as possible myself, I had to leave my stuff for somebody else. I was faced with same scenario just last week.. and similar list of replacement parts for mine (not exact same). Cost was up around the same, so I don't think its too unreasonable. In the end, it hurt, but the car is handling a lot better, I can drive stupidly, and I know those parts should be good for a few years now. Only thing I'd be wary about would be the steering rack.. unless there is obvious signs that it is rooted (e.g. leaking everywhere), I'd be leaving that one -
rodney.. you are grand skyline champion.. matt: fark hey.. where is nexus' times, or is he off sulking?
-
you can also grind off the triangles, and fit secure hose clamp over snout - as per most other turbos.. or fit rb20 one, albeit smaller, with some drilling...

Why does QLD Transport produce a brochure stated "guides to modifications" and mention a few key things then stating what you are, and are not allowed to do to your car? That should be the bible that should over rule any cop's idea of what is, or is not legal -- as they are the ones registering your vehicle, not the police. AFIAK it is them who are deciding which cars ultimately are to be registered and legal on our roads, not the cops. The cops job (as they should see it at least) is to question whether they are, and send them to be inspected through the proper channels. At very worse, your car is complied when it comes into the country, therefore it is complied to meet all applicable ADR's of that time. Period, cops should not even be able to question a car that was as complied with the plate recently.. although sure, they'd argue you could have changed something the day after. What you do to it afterwards is your own business, but if you installed all original ADR compliant gear for that vehicle (sold in australia, with stickers stating compliance to ADRs) - you would be all legal. Sure, not many people do go for local gear, but it's all possible. Which also gives me a good idea... Its all a crock of shit anyhow, as studies have time and time again said that modifications can be attributed to less than 5% of accidents. By that logic, fitting aftermarket brake pads, or tyres would also be illegal.

most cops by the time they get to traffic duty are fairly senior.. senior counstable or more likely seargent.. Unfortunately you are right there Dave, in that they do have a bit of training in that area. Although it might be about 2-3 years since they did the course, it's possible their memory is hazy. ADR's are nothing to be scared of, most cars should pass if the obvious things are legal. p.s.. deanx0r: unfortunately that would mean your nice bling 19" rims are 2" too large

confused: r32 front end camber
predator replied to predator's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
ok, well I *finally* got it done. It needed a whole bunch of new bushes and things replacing.. rack end, rear balljoints, steering rack mount bush, gearbox mount bush.. and castor rod bushes both sides. Was an expensive exercise but it needed to be done. Anyhow, its much better to drive... and at the end I have an alignment sheet with all the settings. I didn't have much of a chance to discuss all the items in the alignment sheet with them unfortunately, but I've attached it for some thoughts from people (sorry about quality, had to camera it). I've got a few questions there... * left and right front camber are slightly different - how bad is this? I am thinking this may be due to LHS having replaced upper control arm+bushes about 2 months ago. * Castor LHS & RHS still different (front), even after new poly bushes were installed . How much could this be a problem? * As suspected, rear camber was all nice and fairly even as i was having no rear wear issues.. but now why would LHS & RHS be out like that? Unfortunately the test was undertaken with burnout rims on the front and stuffed tyres (long story). How much will this throw everything out?? I have since replaced the front tyres with new ones. If somebody could give me some explanations and pointers on areas in which I should head next, that would be greatly appreciated... Unfortunately won't be rushing for a couple of months due to money I just spent, but would be nice to know what I should be saving for I have picked up some 2nd hand Bilsteins and looking to install these with the stock springs for a while (I suspect rear shocks rooted - clunks).. want to see how this setup changes things before considering other options. -

How hot is your turbo? Do you know?
predator replied to chrissso's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I've had glowing turbo on stock r32 after hard mountain work.. I think its just a combination of having no dump pipe to dissipate the heat better, and the fact that the R32 turbo is pretty small. Could also be related to clogged water lines, but need to investigate this further. -
Cam gears- materials,design,failures
predator replied to FATGTS-R's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I would have thought a lot of the wank associated with the material would also be for weight reasons. Less weight = less reciprical mass on the drive system, which is a good thing. I would have also thought 3 bolts was pretty strong to hold the whole gear in place, considering your tensioners only have one. Bolts don't often snap unless put under extreme heat, in front of the engine is relatively cool (otherwise the timing belt would also be not be made of rubber in this case) why? wouldn't it make more sense to leave it off so you can spot the wear? or is that what you mean?? -
heard of similar situations.. to be honest he probably wouldn't have much hope, as the cop will always put a hard case to the magistrate and the magistrate will most likely be middle-aged/older and sympathise with the noise impacting on others. Even though he wasn't on duty, he still has the right to book you. The ego of the cop and the "I'm always right" will also make him fight it beyond all reasonable purpose.

as a potential hoon stopper? thats a bit far fetched though..

lol - u should be writing for our site.. -
There is a guide in FAQ section I believe on creating an R32 cold air feed. I am not sure about GTS-T stock airbox myself.. Its got a little feed to the front bar through a tiny **** under the headlight, and I can hardly see how it gets enough cold air.. Its much worse than the R33 stock setup.

19" wheels, good or bad??
predator replied to Rhinorebel's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Usually in a skyline you tend to go through a set of rears in about 12 months.. $800 every 12 months for 19" tyres? Kind of expensive habbit... -
I thought you just had to abide by the licence rules for NSW, but as the car was rego'ed in QLD the car itself had to comply by QLD rules. I wonder what happened if you just didn't pay it? or just ripped the defect notice off?? How can they cancel your rego in QLD? Why not just ring up QLD transport and ask??

Well they do have the hoon laws up here.. but they are really only enforced onto repeat offenders, or people doing open drag racing, etc from what I can see. e.g. the fairly bad stuff, to keep people from doing it and so they have something to throw at them. If you did a bit of a burnout coming out of a shopping centre, or chirped them up at the lights, you probably wouldn't be busted for 'hooning' . If a cop saw you then maybe if he wasn't liking you and wanted to really get you for something, he could pin it on you technically as the interpretation is wide. But it doesn't happen much from what I gather. There is also no option for members of the public to report a hoon incident AFIAK up here - a cop has to witness it. So really, you have to be a being a real nuicance to get pinned for it. If you were sitting in a quiet neighbourhood area and you did doughnuts at 3am in the morning, then sure - they'd probably pin you for that. But for the more minor stuff, if they busted every red neck in their commodore for being an idiot or doing a burnout and being a bit of a hero, they'd be booking people for 'hooning' a hell'va lot. Up here, its more for keeping certain things getting out of control, rather than fairly minor offences.

2530 should be a good mix across both RB20 and rb25.. From what I have seen, plenty of low and mid-range for both, although your main problem is that it might run out a bit up top on rb25 compared to what it does on rb20. Still, most seem to be getting around 220-230rwkw on an rb25 which is still a very streetable setup. From all I can see its a pretty compromise on both engines.. but not for outright power. I have a "2530 equivelent" in a high-flowed RB25 turbo.. Plan is to put it on the rb20, then after that, after I'm bored of that, put the rb25 in with the same turbo. It will be an interesting experiment. It really depends on where you take it, what you spend, and who you know. My rb25det cost $1600 with full loom, ecu and engine (- turbo). I'm hoping for at least $1000 for sale of working RB20DET, so its not expensive there for the engine changeover. But some can pay like $3500 just for the engine, and then it can depend what you get for that price. The cost will be dropping it in (I am planning on doing that myself) and getting it wired up. Realistically that shouldn't take more than a couple of days labour (x $120/hr workshop rate = $2k install if you got them to do it). Again, I just hope to pay somebody to do the wiring, so there is maybe a $1500 saving there.

every dickhead in their v8 does a burnout on their way from a major club across the road from my house at all hours of the day and night.. do I give a shit .. no.. most people have done a little burnout or taken off hard, so pft.. sounds like a stupid law.
