most are fine.... and have various advantages and disadvantages. Some are slightly better than others, but when it comes down to it - the boost controller is just one part of a whole system. If you do something stupid you can kill the car, so yes I guess they can be a bit dangerous in the hands of somebody who doesn't know the various ins and outs. I think you QLD'ers must love blowing up engines, and seem to think just winding up the boost to 18psi is a great way to get more power do not run more than 12psi on a stock ECU r33.. . do not run more than 10psi on a stock intercooled r33.. maybe you can for a little bit but over time, something go bang, wallet go bang, fun of owning a turbo car out the window.

I'd feign distress, but I think owning a VL would be punishment enough..

50psi is about right.. stock rail pressure is 38psi + 15psi boost = 53psi.. which is close enough as BHdave is saying also.. I think you may be adding the standard boost pressure there in your mind to whatever you are thinking... the workshop manual is saying 37.5 + 7 (stock boost) = close enough to 45 .. where as 15psi + 38 = 53psi.. why you are trying to run 14psi+ on a stock intercooled, stock turbo (I assume?), stock ecu, rb20 is beyond me a bit.. but you can try.

funnily enough I was just about to say that INASNT had pretty much exactly the same problem on his R33 a year or two back .. fixed in pretty much exactly the same way.

Rb25 conversion don't have to be expensive as long as you get the right engine.. I am just doing it because I know how much I like the rb25.. just the r33 is a little large / expensive in my eyes.. so i sold it and setting up my r32 into what the R33 was and much more. I am doing an RB25 conversion early next year.. cost should be around $2000 accounting for sale of rb20det and even a manual conversion thrown in. Only because I like a good challenge and want to DIY. Everything I have needed, or will be needed can be found in the forums for half what many would pay in the "real" world.. its a wonderful place.

Personally I would think the stock unit is more than adequate if in good condition, unless you are doing a stack of laps at a track... why not just install an accurate temperature gauge first ?? if you see the temperatures regularly getting to high temperatures, upgrade.. its useful anyhow. The stock R31 (local) radiator is actually pretty decent.. I have had no cooling issues on 35 degree days driving the car hard, I took in on the track for some short lap spells the other week no probs, etc. And heat problems are never regularly a problem on the R31.. unlike the VL's.. Although my r31 is not turbo admitedly, the stock radiator is still larger than on my R32. I think the main difference is that the R33 ones have the two cores..
