justin.. there was the place i used in VIC a while back.. go hassle the search button.. they can mix up anything. They just have to have the thing in their database or books. In fact any "auto paints distributor" in Melb should be able to do it.. There are a stack in Bayswater to start with. Or just ring up some bodyshops that do show cars and start asking them where they buy their paint from..

er, why would they? you always struggle to find any parts for a car under 5 years old through wrecker channels which, simply as not that many are written off. I'd try VIC or NSW (lots more S15 down there), and get stuff shipped up. I'd actually say S15's are quite rare up here.. in VIC they are everywhere...

How to tell a retread?
predator replied to benl1981's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
They're usually different tread patterns, and generally you just give them your old ones and you get new ones.. and from experience with my daily driver and old cars during "I'm poor" school days, and mate's cars they were ok on cheap cars. Generally they start to crack where the new tread is put on after time, which can make them dangerous. Like you say its just the seam line is obvious around the whole tyre, although some tyres from new may have what looks similar I have found. previous owner put them on my r31.. they held up through a track day, although not much power through them. I was a bit worried they wouldn't (heat build up can cause the tread to separate from the sidewall more than anything else) so had the spare all checked. But like you're saying - good car + good tyres... change em if you have any doubt. note: p.s. i can be a psycho -
thanks for the pointer darren.. I'll need a decent clutch when i do my manual conversion later on so might give these guys a call. With clutches, it depends what they replace.. but yeah, like somebody was saying - often they include a heavy duty pressure plate with the driven plate which can account for the varied costs. When you step up from "standard" to a heavier duty pack generally u have to change that as well.. but if its just rebuilding a standard one.. or you have good "exchange" gear that'll drive the prices down.

My car: Off the road after only 2 weeks!!

Strange about the clutch, should be fine for a long time.. its possible they didn't change the thrust bearing, or didn't machine the flywheel, resulting in premature wear of the clutch. Sounds like when they connected the BOV, they removed the "recycler pipe" (not technical name!) that goes back to the standard boost solenoid - is this what you are talking about?? If the pipe is still there there is a nipple off it.. which is the tube to the bottom (or is it top?) of the boost solenoid. Maybe they didn't block off the nipple or top properly. See the stock boost solenoid uses two pressure points to have a bit of a two stage system to control boost.. the one point blocked off like that may just cause it to sit in the lower boost level.. or a bit of a vacumn leak across the entire system. If anything opening up the exhaust and air intake should naturally increase the boost levels a bit so that shouldn't be the problem. p.s. these sound like the problem and I may be wrong - but of course somebody who takes a look at it fairly quickly should be able to suss it for you. -
just remember the obvious of number plates, etc on film and any actions to get permission etc from those involved, etc but I am sure you know that... Depends on the size.. but i have a server i might be able to host them on.. im still in melb atm, so might be able to do something when i get back.

my thoughts: just use a broker, the docks were ages from my place, and taking days off work would have just cost me money anyhow. Faxed them the import approval, my drivers license, the jap dereg papers.. and my importer sent them and me the "bill of landing", but I knew when the ship was pretty much arriving anyhow (arrived dead on schedule).. so I just tracked it on the little kiwi car little "where is your boat" now thing until it hit the shore. I waited a day or two then gave them a call to see the rough clearance time or any issues. They were happy to take questions on the phone and I would always use a phone rather than email in this situation. Aircon was simply a matter of a typed letter, faxed thru, again with another copy of drivers license for the customs agent to forward to DEH. I didn't get to see the car until it arrived delivered in my driveway as organised, or they would have sent it to whatever compliancer I had nominated (and organised a couple of weeks b4 the boat arrived). To go through customs after landing took about 7 working days. I don't really see the point of rushing to see it before hand. If stuff is going to get stolen, it'll get stolen at some point along the process. As point of reference to llwells, ignoring freight and duty charges.. charge of $914.23 Mine was $816.. Without being charged the $150 for the aircon - works out pretty similar actually. Mine also did include the car carrier fee somewhere for transferring it down from the docks to the goldcoast.

Dealer admits truth about Japanese klm's.
predator replied to a topic in General Automotive Discussion
only have to look at a car that has done 250,000km over here that is 15 years old to compare to a car that has done "90,000km" in japan to see how things don't add up. you could even look at my 2nd car over here that has done 330,000km and compare it to one that has a quoted "90,000km" of near same age and it would be hard to pick in many areas. Even over here it will happen.. its a 20min job to swap a cluster over.. I see a speedo listed as "look low km buy me" .. its not too hard to see who they are aiming for...
