  1. u guys need more sun i think, then you wouldn't be obsessed by stupid things such as "car rules"... i'm not even going to admit to what people have done whilst in my car over the years!
  2. I never said it wasn't fair for dealers to charge what they do.. I just said I, as well as most people, would like the option to equitably still import a car privately if we wished so. The option is of course there to go ahead and do it privately, but I see what happening in the future is the number of avenues to do this becomes smaller and smaller. When they are smaller the choices decrease. Those with the money get what they want. Well I do know there is a lot of business costs associated with the average business, and getting the cars into the yard, however good on them if they can get those prices. $25k for an R33, $20k for an R32 - most who have sniffed around the import market know what is being paid over in Japan, even for good examples. Many will not ever want to pay those prices, if they can get it cheaper, and possibly better (or at least exactly the same) for a few $thousand cheaper. no shit..what was being implied by a few was that in effect that RAWS would possibly get more money from a dealership to comply the car, and more pressure to form a good relationship with RAWS workshops to source a number of cars. Since the number of plates are limited, then in the end, the 'private' importer is left a out of the loop there. Ask yourself this - if you formed a relationship with a car dealer and had a nice automated process to get the cars to them and making a nice regular profit (and there was only so many you could sell), would you bother ****ing around with Joe Public complying his once off car and all his bitching when things go wrong? No. For some people, that is fine. For others like me, bugger that! And like I said, its just the option that most people want. I have always bought my cars privately, and have never needed a warranty or had any problems. Some people actually do have enough knowledge to not buy a lemon by spending some time learning about cars. So whether its using the local private market, or going through the hefty import process (and no its not for everybody, otherwise dealers *would* have no hope), they want the option. The government is shutting down the options in their ultimate goal of shutting down the practice altogether if you ask me, step by step.
  3. yes, scary you'd even think I worked with computers or something Like a few said - you're still best of with 2x 19" CRT's. From a design perspective, the colours are much "fuller" and lifelike to my eyes. Whilst I find the LCD's very crisp and bright, I don't find the colour representation as good for realistic graphic design work. LCD's are only 12bit colour or so, and have to use dithering to achieve the 24bit colour that CRT's have naturally. Also when it comes to running outside the "native resolution" on an LCD it also up or downsamples, resulting in poorer quality picture. They are not all roses. Also I'd say in 12 months with things going the way they are 19" LCD will become more around the 17" LCD price at the moment. The Pioneer A108 also supports dual layer at 4x - which allows you to pi...backup your movies in one hit without shrinking them and losing quality in about 25-30mins. All other current burners are only 2.4x at DL... not so important now 'cause dual layer discs are ~$12 and hard to come by but in 6 months when they're $1 you'll be using that feature a bit
  4. i think he cant read the fact that the forsale section is now closed and he should use the new SAU CLASSIFIDES section Then again he is from Dandenong, so maybe we can forgive him
  5. If anybody thinks its in a dealers "best interest" to sell quality cars above everything else, its not... it's to make money - which involves getting the cheapest car possible and putting the largest mark-up that the market will bare on the vehicle. Sure, it may mean they are not able to bring in completely shifty / dangerous cars and sell them off like they did pre SEVS, but that doesn't mean necessarily people are going to get quality cars at great prices and its all nirvana! Prices will simply go higher, putting these cars out of the reach of a number of the population, which over the last 5 years has made them so popular. Prices have gone up a significant amount in the last 12-18 months, and with less options, less supply, this is only going to shoot up even further.. this is a sureity in my eyes. How could it work itself out any other way? Well I'd rather take the gun thanks.. and have those extra thousands there to glue my head back together if something did go wrong. I would rather still import a car privately, take some risk, and know the ball is in my court (for the most part), rather than trust some dealer trying to make as large a profit as possible. That $3-10k that a dealer charges over privately I would rather have in *my* pocket, using *my* knowledge of this industry to be able to get good deals on new engines, spray jobs, and other things that goes along with owning a second hand car... not some dealer lining his own pocket and many of his buddies. I laugh when I see some of the stickered prices in import dealerships for the quality of the cars sometimes - and this is only going to get worse now, if things pan out a few here are suggesting, into making imported cars a "dealers" game. It's like anything.. if you are willing to take the risk, why should us, the public be given restricted options? That is what this issue is about, restricting *our* rights as a buyer to do whatever the hell we like. We can go take a chance and import privately, go buy from a dealer, go buy from somebody else locally, or go buy a damn commonwhore, but we should at least be given the OPTION. Instead our wonderful ****ing government decides they wish to restrict our options for whoever ELSES best interest - it stinks!
  6. oh gawd.. 2 x Samsung 710N's or BenQ 737's - $500-600 each Pioneer A108 16x DVD writer - ~$130 screw the other CD/DVD (why?) - $0 Winfast 2000XP expert - ~$85 AMD 64 3400+ 754 socket - ~$300 Gigabyte K8NSpro nforce3 mboard - $270 Sapphire VIVO X800pro - ~$700 (flash to X800XT) Audigy ZS Platinum Pro - ~$350 1gb Corsair C2 PC3200 - ~$350 2 x WD 74gb Raptors (RAID em) - ~$280 each Oh there goes your budget.. oh well .. it would kick ass
  7. it was a nice spam though across nearly every section - I liked it Nothing over 15 years is a bit of a big blow though if this is the case. Means many of the "classics" are just dead in the water and we'll never see them on the roads over here in Australia
  8. yep - I'm already on it have to install it tonight.. should be a bit of fun, even though its a bit flakey on the physics of everything..
  9. what ant said definitely seems likely.. could also be an exhaust manifold leak, dead gasket or something like this.. really there are a large number of things you'll have to check one by one.
  10. Like Mr Bob says.. there is plenty of info on thse in the forced induction section.. they are a nice fit for an R33 or R32.. and good for up to around 250rwkw, maybe a bit more. When I analysed them apples for apples to an Bosch 910( using same pressure) they are pretty much the same as this. So they are a great upgrade ! and easy to fit..1 hr if you don't even know what you are doing. Even as a safety precaution, as fuel pumps get old they start to flow less than optimally - at worst a dead pump under load can mean a dead engine. Usual price on these is regularly $200, so if he is able to get them for $160 for 10 that is a good price.. AND (still interested)
  11. still available.. trim is just less speckley and a bit lighter... still same seats however..
  12. don't be stupid.. what happens if you bash your head against the window, steering or something else?? even it a minor ding on the track, least might save your skull from fracturing.
  13. Yeah, not too unexpected by anybody I wouldn't imagine. With a senate majority goodbye to imports really over the next few years as they can push through whatever they like unopposed now. Oh well, thats what the Australian population voted, and I am sure some of you here - so this is what you get *loads gun*.. oh, oops
  14. nah mate, it was 12-18 months ago.. prices have shot up on the newer r32 models, simply because of the 89 models.. its actually the reverse everybody was whinging about when they were eligible! that they'd drive the price down of their cars. I have no idea whether the prices being asked are being met out there, but most seem to be asking around $15k I remember regularly you really couldn't find an R32 for much over $15k, and fairly modded ones went for 12-13k.. and this wasn't that long ago. Import, you can't really go wrong.. engines are replaceable, paintjobs are re-doable.. and $3-5k difference will buy you a bit of things to be fixed (if needed). My 89 is getting an RB25det, and conversion to rb25 box, and an intercooler, maybe even a seat retrim, and few other extras for under the price I can see up forsale recently.
  15. even though I got my import approval about a month ago.. I am still waiting for the car to be shipped even from Japan shipping is pretty slow at the moment, so don't get too excited.
  16. nice one! *high five*
  17. I know, harsh... well my designated rest from day-job is complete, time to get to the other work
  18. he managed to shove the thing up after pulling off the door card and pushing it a bit..and it started working again. Think it was just jammed. But will keep that in mind if its on its way out.
  19. lol - this is true.. just look at my avatar.. and look at my hand this is true also... blow dodgy workshop X !
  20. you're being silly.. spend the extra $xx grand on the turbo on engine.. have you been drinking again?
  21. pft kids.. i could slap a $1000 paint job on a completely ****ed skyline, some nice rims, clean up the engine bay and you'd all say it was "oh wow".. that was till the engine or gearbox blew a few weeks later. And yet my 20 year old daily that is 20 years old, does look like a piece of crap, and i bought for next to nothing gets thrashed everyday and is reliable as rocks. So there is no definitive way to tell unless you actually take it for a drive or get a mechanical inspection. There are two possible reasons why somebody sells a car like that: a) They know something you won't until its too late B) They simply got bored of it, or want the cash. Then generally a local buyer would have bought it i'd imagine. Anyway, who knows.. who cares!
  22. lol.. everybody dobs poor strutto in.. you want to use his services *pay* for them you're too nice strutto.. put the foot down (not in the figurative sense!)
