um, THEY DO! why do you think if you have p-plates on the car you are xx times more likely to get pulled over by a copper?? Because they are checking for modifications half the time which they aren't hell fans of on any car (and they are illegal), never mind one driven by a p-plater. If you are a p-plater AND driving a modified car you are as good as writing out the defect yourself. If you are a bit older, they may well turn a blind eye to some modifications, but if you are young, driving a car which may be borderline on the power/weight anyhow they are not going to allow you any leeway whatsoever if your car is modified to give it more power (or anything else) than standard. Even standard can in some circumstances be too much for the inexperienced driver. And that is what you see time and time again when younger people to get pulled over. What happens when you are defected? your car is asked to be returned "to stock" or quite close to it. The cops are not just doing it to frustrate you, or make your life hell (not always ) but in some ways its to protect some of you from your very self.

:werd: or those that think if you put some bags of concrete in the back you're all ok with the cops. Cop will laugh at you.. then book you, then laugh a little more, then maybe book you some more, and then call your mother.. then laugh at her for bringing you into this world Actually did you know that they actually take the occupants out of the car and weigh them when you get pulled over? and if you weigh too little you have to go to maccas and eat 6 quarter pounders to bring up the weight a bit to the correct power to weight ratio. (true story)

Its all driving training, its all it is.. If you train the drivers properly anybody can drive anything safetly at any age, and I'd also argue any speed. In fact I wish in my younger days, how cool would have proper driving courses been?? Imagine if you were 18 and you got to go on a race track, a skid pan, tested the full limits of your car, learn a few things and it was all subsidised by the government. People would be cueing up to do it. Some other countries do it, why not Australia? It pays for itself over the years in the amount of lives saved, people hospitalised for life, and everything else. Its so short sighted not to do that. I really don't know what the government is even thinking these days. Its the same everywhere in australia. The issue isn't the cars, its the knowing how to handle them. Whether its a 50kw mini or a 500kw GTR. I wonder whether its also to do with the growing culture of what I see these days, people living at home until they are 25, even older, just so they can buy and afford the material things in life such as cars - effectively subsidised by their parents.

again... very reliable car and you should have no problems. Not uber quick, but neither are most things around that price level. 145kw isn't anything to be sneezed out, but I guess as all cars get more and more powerful over the years can start looking a bit slower in comparison. The weight will be the same as any commodore, camry, or magna out there - and that is really what you should be comparing it against. It has the sporty looks, but the practicality of many of those other cars. I would say actually $15k is the upper end, as there is not massive demand you can get a goodie for around $12k these days. My mate got a manual GTS4 for $14k and that was about the only car that actually looked to have a *genuine* 70,000km on it or so (no scratches, no wears in any of the trims, etc). No problems whatsoever and he is very happy with it.

RTA and insurance company
predator replied to skylineman's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
don't lie and its not a problem.. can't have your cake and eat it too... depends if its agreed value, or market value. Generally when its "agreed value" you are paying the premium based on what you put down. Market value they will pretty much ignore it and take whatever figure they think is reasonable.. -
There are a lot of people that don't know their stuff, but then you will run into those that do. It only takes somebody that *does* along the way and you're in trouble. And things only get stricter each year. Seems to me you have about three options: a) take it to another state and try and transfer the rego (two lots of rego, etc) and see if the engineers can be still valid. B) remove the turbo and return it mostly to stock (probably best option).. although soon as you change it back the engineers is invalid, so is any insurance (including if you hit a person on the road), and you only have to get pulled over by a nice policeman in vic and you're back where you started. c) pay off the right people .. You don't have much other options to totally frank. VIC is *strict* - damn strict.. .on most things. Just remember when it comes to insurance the story will be exactly the same.

damn - inark almost sounds like he is using a level head here.. whats going on sounds like he wants a track car to actually *use* and not look at, and rb26 aren't cheap (or some would say the most reliable -> gasp) sr powered r32 would rock.. go beat horus will ya -
full crane is back up to $399 Looks like $150 block and tackle is going to have to be the go.. (supercheap :-s))
-
there was a rb25 complete for $2000 on here in QLD.. still available last i checked.. loom, ecu, afm, everything.. would be a non-neo r33 engine.. but at that price worth considering otherwise you get Rb30 blocks for a couple of hundie, and rb25 heads for around $1000.. throw in some cams .. the rebuild costs you a few thousand but that is with the serious bits. Near $10k you can have 350-400rwkw engine if you like.. add a nice turbo and start blowing up drivetrains. rb26 head is a little too expensive.. flows better and tougher but $1000-$2000 more.

maximum rwhp for gearbox diff etc
predator replied to letemlaf's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
$5 and the search button.. -
i think 89 and lack of being able to import 92, 93 models, etc for nearly 12 months have pushed the prices *up* you used to quite easily get a good r32 gts-t for around $12-13k.. now that is almost bargain basement. r33 are still everywhere as well these days, pushing the price of them down in general.
