  1. They're different as Steve points out. It won't cost you much to get new ones from Nissan.
  2. I'm not sure if I follow.. so they are introducing only a non-turbo hatchback? and the only version which will be turbocharged will be the STi which will come later?
  3. $999 aussie launch price - with only 60gb model available.. release 23rd March..
  4. Any idea whether these were the original factory engines or blocks on their 2nd or 3rd rebuild? could be a factor?
  5. Considering well over 50% the VE comes from parts suppliers in China or Korea and not Holden - the car is becoming less Australian by the year... You still have to consider this as Holden's fault for choosing these component manufacturers which may cause problems over previous local manufacturers, and failing to QA overseas components adequately. All other car manufacturers have 3rd party manufacturers as well, so are also liable to the same types of problems - so it is a level playing field. It still is up to Holden as the builder of the Commodore to ensure these parts are up to scratch, and choose A-grade component manufacturers and carry out their own heavy QA controls on each part and vehicle as a whole. If not, why buy a holden at all if their standard response is going to be "well it's not our part" ?? Here is an interesting quote before release on drive.com.au... It is no surprise there have been a number of faults. With this in mind, the next-generation Commodore will have to be a lean machine cheaper to build and free of any excess cost if it is to survive among the hordes of imports. It also explains why the next Commodore will be the most multicultural model Holden has ever produced, with more foreign parts than before. Will buyers be able to notice where Holden has cut costs - and corners? With previous Commodores, Holden boasted about the local content of its cars. Now it refuses to divulge details. Taillights from Korea, fuel injectors from China, wheels made in Thailand, body-moulding tools made in Japan. And that's just a taste. "We don't discuss that level of detail," is the stern response from Holden's spokesman Jason Laird. "We don't discuss local content."
  6. more than likely rear main seal.. they go on RB's .. gearbox has to come out to fix.
  7. I would say you're going to have to take it off, to get to the screws at the top properly, as I think they're top-down screws, and there are also ones around the side you may not be able to see from if you just take the glovebox out. I am not sure whether you've already given it a shot, but you can actually take out the fan/spinny bit to clean as well. Mine was full of dirt/dust/japanese leaves, as that's the first point of entry to the rest of the system. It depends what you're going to do, but if you need to replace the heater core anyhow, it sort of slides out of the back of the box (which goes to through the firewall to the coolant lines), and that requires taking the whole lot out. I am not sure if R32 is similar to r33, but I know on 33 there are about 3-4 different types of heater-cores, and not all will fit the same box. So before you get one, make sure it's going to fit, and/or get the rest of the surrounding box as well to slot in. If you muck with the AC evaporator and need to take that out for any reason, then, pssht, there goes all that gas... this one: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...st&id=78309 is the one with the A/C evaporator in it.. Now that I remember -you should actually be able to get your fingers in and see the refrigerant temp sensor.. maybe even wiggle it around to fix the intermitant dropouts with the sensor. It may be embedded in a bunch of sticky foam type stuff you might need to peel off with your fingers.
  8. yeah, not easy! I had trouble, even with the dash fully off.. I'm not sure what photos I have lying around, usually I'll have them - it's just a matter of finding them my home PC is knackered right now so no go for a day or two.
  9. er, Falcon, 380, Camry? The Commodore is only as good as those cars.. never forget that. No review I've read has really said the VE is that far ahead of any of those cars, even despite being the latest.
  10. You should have got out and gave him a complete serve yourself.. sounds like they deserved it. "I was going well well under the speed limit, I stopped WELL short of you, and there was no possible way I was going to injure you - now get the f**k out of my face and cross somewhere a little safer next time, as maybe you won't be so lucky when some ACTUAL moron comes past and collects you". I have no tolerance for people like that, and it seems the only way they learn if you start harking back at them - then maybe they realise they were the ones being a little stupid. There are designated places for crossing the road, yet these days it seems nobody seems to care.
  11. Speak to Andrew @ Kudos Motorsports - he had some in stock, and is a local QLD'er..
  12. come with porn?
  13. commodores use wheels.. thats so 5500BC.. man, that tech is over 7000 years old - can't believe they're still using it..
  14. yes.. enjoy.. Once you have taken apart the entire speedo, glovebox, dash pad out, get back to me in 2 hours time and I'll show you where it is.. ok.. now, you've got to that step - its in the second box after the blower on the LHS of that photo.. its clipped to the piping within the aircon condensor? (metal thing) inside the plastic box. If I remember correctly you have to take the fan out to get to it.. that was a prick too. still feeling brave?
  15. I've always disliked them mainly for 3, 5, 7 and that doesn't really change with the VE.. The "Ecotec" V6 is not meant to be that great, and 190kw is dandy, but carting 1600kg around with it probably puts it in the same bracket at a 160kw 1400kg car of a couple of years ago. The styling now I've seen a few around still doesn't take on me. I didn't like at first, liked for a bit, now I think I'm on the dislike the styling again Still prefer the more consistent Falcon BA style. Plus, they're also getting up there in price, so you would expect a lot. With the price of the VT/VX about to get smashed by the new VE being popular, they will probably make a bargain when they are around $10k for something only 3-6 years old with most options the VE has. It may only be 75% what a VE is as a car, but at 1/3 the price, probably a good buy for those that need that sort of car.
  16. And you'll be waiting until late 2008 to play it (it's a loooooong wait).. by which time the ps3 will be $400, which is when I might buy one
  17. don't forget you'll pay $100 extra for rego on any 6cylinder vs a 4cylinder as well. I know this as both my rego for my cars is due on the week
  18. $1000 I reckon is too low to expect something that comes registered, working, AND can get a safety cert. If you go too cheap you'll end up spending too much keeping it on the road, or the dodgy crap will drive you nuts. Or you'll go past a defect station and then you'll have to bin it, as it will stand out too much as being unroadworthy. I paid 2.5k for my 1990 pulsar with the 1.8.. goes ok, and done about 10k on it in about 10 months without drama so far, and I thrash it to the pants. $1500-3k seems to be the sweet spot for something that'll be reliable enough, and be rego'ed and roadworthy to bother with. Best shitter i bought was $1500 for an R31, good mechanically for the 18 months, but visually wasn't too exciting. Lol @ that taxi and needs some repairs to have it on the road or it would be ideal for parts those "some repairs" could cost you $2k easily on an old car.
  19. bullshit.. superglue fixes everything..
  20. Tell your parents to get stuffed, as an airbag retrofitted probably won't work properly anyhow.. Besides which, it's not guaranteed to save your life anyhow. Aren't there plenty of 180sx autos around anyhow? would have been 50 times more sensible to stick a silvia front end on one on a good price. I don't even know why you considered it in the first place to be honest.. weird, double post? lol
  21. Tell your parents to get stuffed, as an airbag retrofitted probably won't work properly anyhow.. Besides which, it's not guaranteed to save your life anyhow.
  22. Yeah, confirmed by having a look .. definitely BM44 15/16 on my 32 .. not sure which brand - just says nissan on it. Possibility I guess that the series2 R32 have a larger one, not sure.
  23. get dirty rich from property after just 5 years? I don't think so.. esp. these days. Maybe at mid-30's-40's if you have a lot of luck and careful investment on your side.
