  1. Is a 2-way the same as a mini-spool / locker.. or at worse the cheap ass version - the welded diff ?? That is both the rear wheels are always spinning at exactly the same time, all the time?
  2. tailshaft or unis or something like that.. not too expensive to replace, but can cause other problems down near the gearbox end or diff end if not replaced
  3. couldn't make it.. but looked like a good day.. been spending too much lately on bits for my cars rather than actually doing anything with them... will have some interesting things to throw on the dyno in a couple of months
  4. yeah.. i got one of them too on the day it clicked over 100,000km I sold it too.. beat that
  5. actually..i remember i got a pic.. :headbang:
  6. lol.. what a mess.. those crazy japs - never did think that was a great idea for the turbo inlet just direct to air here is the exhaust side of the one up the top.. ceramic.
  7. The compression should be 8.2:1 with n/a pistons which should be fine enough.. who put the engine together? yourself or somebody else? something wasn't done properly..
  8. change the colours.. grey is bad.. but it was looking promising.. Looks like it will give some good structure and things to the trading process. Not sure about the auction idea but some people will be up for that I guess.
  9. mmm.. i always get excited over jap cars when i watch the series, and makes me want to run about mountains and things yummy japanese girls.. yum come on... HK cinema can be great.. the cheesiness and sometimes childish humour is what makes it so great.. most of the best kung fu and IMHO some of the best cop action/shoot movies are HK. Chow Yung Fat, Jet Li, Jackie Jan.. all their best stuff was done over in HK.. soon as they went to gwailo cinema it went shit. Without HK cinema there probably would have never been the Matrix series, or any other kung-fu or action movies which spawned off the same original ideas.. . so i can't wait.. it better have some kick ass kung fu moments in it also
  10. when it blows the cheapest option is an r33 auto box.. there are a few autos up here pushing close to 200rwkw and they're still working... no reason why it can't go into a HR31. good luck with it all
  11. rascov: vg30 has already been swapped into an r31 up here.. saw it... think the only reason it worked out worthwhile as the engine was next to nothing. It looked like a big ****er..
  12. Just grab another stocker.. There are plenty around for good prices. I picked up one for $500 and one for $320 in the last couple of weeks.. both in EC. The 2nd was pretty low priced though, and probably below the average.
  13. VL's are only good for only one thing.. pulling apart to get the pshtt bits off..
  14. YES! R31 all the way.. I just started a thread on the r31 actually.. you can see mine which i got for $1500.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ad.php?p=991332 They're not pretty to look at, but they go, and are actually pretty reasonable on the petrol. I probably drive around 800km a week and have put about 20,000km on it without any mechanical problems. What many would just write off as a "tired old car". I got a GX just because it was cheap.. but if you wanted to spend a bit more you could get a GXE.. maybe even a silhouette (LSD, nicer interior). I'd say the cheaper you spend the more likely you'll have to fix niggly things - these don't cost much but if you hate fixing things then pay a bit more.
  15. i got some pix too.. i am a sucker for rice so riced up the interior a bit.. note the latest in space-aged race material for the drivers seat yep: at the moment its still got the girl shifter. But I drive a lot of KM at the moment so really CBF changing gears.. one day i'll maybe convert it When the turbo goes on should be fun pulling up next to a v8 . Cops don't even look twice at it either
  16. Ok, well the DR30's, and a few of the other older cars are covered quite well in here.. thought i'd kick off an aussie r31 discussion.. So list your car, what your plans are for it.. and what you use it for.. and I guess people can start speaking various shit from here onwards Mine is a 1986 gx which i got with about 305,000km on the clock.. about 5 months ago now. Car: White GX (gx is the best..) Year: 1986 Purchased:: About 5 months ago Km: 325,000km Cost: $1500 Best thing about the car: I can disrespect it to the shit, thrash it to the balls, and the noise of the exhaust scares old ladies. I really don't care if it stops for $1500. And it does handle, go, and stop pretty well compared to a lot of RWD out there. Its now done about 325,000km although the odometer stopped about 3 months ago because i was ****ing with it  To some its like "325,000" WTF.. but to me that just makes it better.. if i can kick it past 400,000km and still be kicking the ass of a few cars out there i'll be happy Engine is 2nd engine w/ I think about 200,000km on that one. Seems to be ok. Sometimes I think its chewed all the oil and the engine is about to die, and others it seems to be fine. I bought it 'cause I wanted a daily driver as I drive about 800km a week.. and thought it was a good idea to have a 2nd car. Then the R33 started shitting me up the wall.. so i sold that (overpriced pieces of turbo taxi), and now i just got the 31 till my next toy gets here. So far changed the front brake pads, got a new centre chucked in the diff ($50 for diff + $150 for install) and changed the lower trailing arms to nolethane ($80) which has improved the handling a lot. Its very go-kart at the mo' which is the great thing about them. At the start, I had kind of rough plans "one day" to change it turbo it... but strictly n/a just isn't enough power for me I've decided.. All the right stuff came up at the right price, so I'm not far off now.. So probably in 2 months or so will bolt all the crap on and aiming for 150rwkw. As long as I can surprise a few r32 and r33's I'll be happy If the engine pops not sure, might just get another one, or maybe grab one of a VLT. Later on I'm thinking I might just go the whole hog and turn this into a track machine, when I don't need to drive this every day... weld the diff, chuck the seats out, put some r32 brakes on there, etc. Should go alright, and i think being a GX i could get it down to 1200kg or so..
  17. well i've clocked up about 20,000km in the r31 in 5 months.. and i spend 2 hours driving a day so most of the time i do feel like i'm living in the car.. if only i could, it would be cheaper!
  18. ...post a picture..
  19. yeah.. often i see postage stamps littered on the ground with skylines on them...
  20. yeah.. thursdays will be resurrected.. for that to happen somebody has to step forward and actually show some leadership with some plans if its every week people get a bit bored.. but if appropriate interesting ideas are put forward people generally get on it.
  21. hmm..interesting.. i thought all the fronts were the same, just rear that was different.. post the pic when u get home i might post the exhaust side of that one.. definitely ceramic looking.
  22. erm  none really.. its a nice photo lot of people don't even know what the stock turbo looks like up close.. lol
  23. i think thats your problem right there.. any pressure leak results in stalling and other stupid crap.. block it off properly at both ends (where its supposed to go also).. or connect it back up tomorrow and your problem should go away.
  24. drunkenmaster: for ref.. pintara gears are always a cheap source of 4.11's crown and pinions...
  25. .. thats the cam oil breather return Is it actually blocked? usually it runs to some snake type pipework
