My Restoration
predator replied to Godzilla32's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Good work.. looks like it will come together very well. I remember before I bought my gts-t, I contemplated doing the same to an old GTR, but then realised the amount of work and money it would take to do it properly! Good to see you going through with it - in the end the result will be well worth it. To have a new car version of an old classic. -
If you're doing that sort of thing, might be better off down south end.. I've recently just moved down to coolangatta 1 min from the beach.. beautiful beaches down that end. More surf stuff down there, but nothing is too flashy. Overall though it's nice and cruisey. If you want something more upper class and more central near the beach, probably Broadbeach or Broadbeach waters might be a good choice.

runaway bay, biggera waters, benowa, hope island What sort of area do you want to live? the goldcoast has a lot of contrasting areas... from the beach scum side (surfers) through to the classier beach side, to the expensive water front properties. You going to need to be close to the freeway? driving a lot locally? etc... All makes a difference.

can't the government just flat out ban the f**king things? We don't need more stupid large cars on the road. Whenever you are driving around and struggle to see around one to see what else is happening in front of you (basic hazard avoidance), or everybody time you see somebody struggling to get into a "regular" carpark or worst still take up two carparks in a crowded shopping centre you just think "you stupid f**king selfish c**t"

ooo no.. all the best cars always end up on ebay don't they!
-
yes.. they cannot be bent to those shapes.. Nissan also has them all brand spanka.. I got the two on the sides for $40 I think it was.

I am not so sure here.. It looks like the insurance company is the one pressuring the shop not too proceed with the repairs as they do not think that the chosen part by the customer is not to their standards. To me, I'd be more pissed with them? There may also be some issues with the shop (or it seems the insurance company) not wanting to modify the bar, or in any way touch something that may come back to haunt them if anything else happened. As an example, there was a later accident, in which the modified bar was found to be partiarly responsible. Who was responsible for modifying said bar? at the end of the day, probably the original body shop, or would it be the insurance company for authorising this change? Either way, for whoever makes the decision, it's a big risk. A grey area in most ways. Sorry mate, but given the tone of the thread I've removed the insurer's name too - Revhead

What Causes Rotors To Crack?
predator replied to Abo Bob's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
They generally recommend you have a cool down lap to help disipate air through the rotors, and naturally cool them.. instead, you quite *possibly* could have been slamming the hell out of the brakes at the last second and then came to a complete stop and suddenly cooler. So just metal fatigue? -
Wobbling Steering Wheel
predator replied to InterCooL's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The balancing won't do crap if the tyres are warped.. and may actually still balance ok. I've had that before on another car. Peeved me off no end for 6 months until I tried a different set of rims as a last resort. My guess is that it wouldn't be the tail shaft through the steering.. rest of the car, sure, but tailshaft goes from engine -> gearbox -> diff.. the rack isn't involved. -
Wobbling Steering Wheel

stupid question.. but has he tried rotating the tyres front to back and see if it has improved? -
Your consult connector is part of the dash loom.. not the engine loom. So it probably won't be found there. But if you can grab the connector.. the CLK, RX, TX and lines can be found in any R32 ECU pinout.. So just connect them up to them, and provide ground and 12v from anywhere else.

yeah.. those guys did mine about 12 months ago as well.. They are pretty good with the old skylines.
-
Um, I've done it a few times.. It's not a GTR. Well they cost me $2.31 retail - I have the receipt right in front of me.

Well taking the manifold and turbo, etc may take a couple of hours, but the work on the studs should only take 2-3 hours. Thinking about it, maybe towards $500 might be reasonable for like all of them and an "drive in drive out" job.. 2 days work isn't really true though. I've taken the manifold off a couple of times -- on and off in about 2 hours. If you want to save the bulk of the money, take the manifold off yourself, and put it back - then get the guy to tap and thread them. It's probably recommended to get a new exhaust manifold gasket as well (about $120 from nissan).
-
That's an absolute rip off.. the studs are about $4 each from nissan.. and maybe 2-3 hours work.. So around $200-300 may be fair.

I think you'd find that a correctly installed CAMS approved cage would be cheaper than any big name japanese one. It's funny when you see all these ex-jap cages go up for sale here.. you know somebody is going to learn the hard way that they've spent a lot on which is really just an expensive ricer extension - as it can't be used in an actual CAMS event, if they get around to attending one.

It will fit, but the rb25 has more blades, and seems flows a lot more air (I tested this once when I had my rb20 - you can tell by putting your hand in front of both to compare).. so a fair bit better. I reckon you'd be better off with a 3rd party one if it does the trick.
-
If you can find out what font it's in I can do it tonight..

mattymagoo22 is on the ball.. I don't think it's been adjusted correctly to release properly, so re-bleed the clutch and try again. You may also have a stuffed slave cylinder, or master cylinder, or clutch fluid leak so investigate all of these. If the clutch was never installed or adjusted correctly, the clutch won't last too long at all.

Pickup on South Goldcoast.. or Weight is 10kg.. sender postcode is 4225.. australia post has a calculator..http://www1.auspost.com.au/pac/ you have a brain Price: $60 fixed

Cant Wash Your Car With A Hose...
predator replied to Modena's topic in General Automotive Discussion
It took me 3 buckets to wash my car over the weekend.. and it's clean enough to lick.. Learn to wash your cars properly! A bucket, proper handwash and chamois dry will work a heap better than using a hose and getting a clean result. All a hose does half the time is wash dirt from one area of the car to another. p.s. we should all be running nuclear powerplants as well.. the planet is f**ked - it calls for some tough measures. having to wash a car with a bucket..it's one of the least things people are going to have to worry about in the next 50 years. -
Definitely... my old rb20 was fine at 10-12psi for 12 months or so.. dry as a nun's __ ... Soon as I screwed in 16psi (with tune) it was showing a heap of blowby, and poor idling after only a couple of months after that. Nothing surer to kill an old engine's rings than boost.

Looks good, and toyota builds a stronger car than nissan .. sad but true.. But there has been rumours of this for a long time, and nothing has come of it. I believe Toyota has even flatly denied they will ever make another 'Supra'. This could just mean the similar concepts will be called something else, or they're simply nothing more than design ideas.
