Even though FWD is a little gay.. for around $5-6k you're probably more likely to get a nice FWD than anything too exciting in RWD, and they're fun to drive
-
this is more important than cheaper petrol prices!! gold.. haha
-
yes.. Put an oil pan under there. Make sure you plug the hoses up where it goes to the trannie .. I suggest a bolt shoved in there.. Then let all the auto fluid drain out the bottom of the radiator.
-
$65.. holy f**k!! costs $36 out at willowbank.. you always get more runs than you ever got in VIC.

I've seen a couple of cefiros at the side of the road getting the once over? maybe they were driving like knobs..

keep waving that flag roy..

Each part has been tested and complied to ADR standards.. and there probably is different ADR standards applicable to 4WD vehicles as well. It's all in here.. ADR 69 http://www.comlaw.gov.au/comlaw/Legislatio...A257168000649A5 reading through, if its pre 95 might be ok - so its probably legal on his car afterall

Cars are crash tested to ensure that they meet applicable crash standards, and crumble zones. So yes, there are a few out there that have these parts (and I doubt you'll find very many that have factory fibreglass), but they have been fully designed from the start and tested in simulated testing that gets the cars on the road. But you'll probably find they are strong plastics instead, which behave completely different strength to fibreglass.. And of course the factory skyline front bars are all plastic. Fibreglass *addon* bits replacing the original *metal* (or plastic) bits obviously don't behave the same as the original parts in an accident. It's pure physics. Yes but there is f**ked, and less f**ked.. You go have an accident with your fibreglass guards, and see what the insurance company has to say in repairing your car. Say you hit a pedestrian.. fibreglass will just completely shatter on more than about 20k/hr impact, meaning they hit the (usually sharp) bits of the chasis instead. You ever cut yourself with fibreglass either? it's not pretty.. so where do you think the shock is absorbed when the car, pole, whatever passes straight through the fibreglass like paper mache at 60km/hr?

It's generally (a generalisation) the patrol cops that give people the biggest problems, and are often more ego than common sense. Regular cops going about their business are generally are fine, and of course we all need them. I live next door to a cop and he's a good family bloke, and I have a mate in melb who is a cop as well. Anyhow, unfortunately I didn't get their plates in full (mainly because they kept launching off so fast at each set of lights!) so not much can do probably. And really, I'm not one to rag on people either side of the law, so well, leave it be. Just makes me a bit angry sometimes to see the hypocrisy right in your face like that.

You can keep it for a little while. I have been out with HICAS still on, didn't kill me.. The general consensus is remove it when you can for more predictable handling, but it's not mandatory if you are just out there to have some fun.

bull.. There are plenty of other brands sold here which have ADR approval stickers on them, and the insurance company couldn't give two hoots what 'brand' it was. It's like saying 'they only approve HKS intercoolers'

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=122417 Have to get rid of these soon.. I had a lot of these things as spares.. so could be useful to somebody out there.

well the actual cylinder is fine.. I just rigged up a rod in there for a few weeks which seemed to work. Might do the trick. If you've got a stuffed one, just take out the old rod and use that.. Most of the new cylinders you buy don't have the rod included. Updated... stuff must go in next 10 days!

GTS-T guards weigh about 3.5kg each.. the alloy GTR ones are about 2.5kg I believe, so you're saving like 2kg in the whole car (next to nothing saving). If you're a drifter, FBR is cheaper to smash and replace I guess.. Fibreglass are illegal as they don't crumple in an accident

I'd just like to thank QLD police patrol car.. number plate 631-XXX down Reedy Creek Road at about 11pm tonight, travelling a good 30km/hr over the speed limit (60&70km zone) for about at least 10 minutes with their police lights clearly off and just having a hoon because they can.. Well done you hypocrite.. I'm sure if I would have been travelling even 20km/hr over the limit I would have copped a nice fine and ego blast, but of course being a police officer with all your many years of training and experience, it's all ok and perfectly safe.. I wish I had a job in which I could be a two faced moron... in fact maybe I should apply to be a %#$!head.. apparently they're open for applications

Banning Performance Cars From P Platers = More Deaths
predator replied to scathing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
fixed speed limits encourage b.s. further numbers to justify them. Monash Uni's transport "safety" department or whatever it should be nuked. It is interesting the massive influence they have on the roads down there in VIC, as opposed to NSW and QLD where people generally travel a fair bit quicker. But at the end of the day there is little to no difference per head of population the road toll across all age groups whether you have a nazi state or not. I wouldn't say QLD'ers are good drivers at all (in fact very poor), however the road toll isn't massive here.. and the population isn't *that* much smaller than VIC. Distance? Older population? Less rain? Less traffic lights? We can even get into the recent migrants argument. There is more to it than simply speed limits, and fast cars. -
Thinking Of Buying A J31 Nissan Maxima
predator replied to gel's topic in General Automotive Discussion
There is another 4door v35 at motovation on the goldcoast..50mins from bris.. http://www.drive.com.au/used_cars/nissan/s...=11241&nv=1 beat him a deal against the other guy.. -
U11's are FWD I believe. Sure it's an U11 ? Does it have 2 doors or 4? Could be interested in a couple of months if its the RWD. There is the Infinity M30 which is the equivelent of the Leopard in USA ? Like funky says, I think only 1989 and later (or very last 1988 models) had the VG30.. I thought they only come as auto as well (300zx tranny and some R31 or S13 manual parts probably fit)

Banning Performance Cars From P Platers = More Deaths
predator replied to scathing's topic in General Automotive Discussion
It seems like a simple fix that driver aides will stop accidents, as the car is taking over from the human element. That seems to be the latest magic fix. But I don't think in most cases it would. They've had ABS in cars for years, airbags, etc - even a "budget" car often has them these days. But that doesn't necessarily stop people having accidents or fatal ones. Subsidising cars for p-platers would cost the government billions, I don't think it's feasible. -
You seem to be very confused Trev - you say you have been a defensive driver instructor, but don't believe any other form of training should be done in a controlled environment. I am a firm believe in you cannot always protect people from themselves, and you have to give certain liberties. Otherwise, sure, install mandatory cameras in all cars, 120km/hr ECU controlled limits, data logging of all cars actions to be used against the drivers in case of an accident, etc, etc. Actually, trucks cause many accidents on the highway too due to fatigue or other factors, and are already strangely 100km/hr speed limited. What is going on there?? If you want to live in that utopian world, that will never exist, then go for it, but unfortunately, not many other people do. And that is part of living in a society where there are all different types of people. There are some that take risks, some even enjoy it. It's actually part of people's brain chemistry. Better drug them and get rid of those traits, make everybody the same robotic drone eh? Up here, there are regular track days, where anybody is able to get out there on a proper race track, in a fast car, and drive it how they wish in their own car. Many in fact have never had any more training than getting a standard road licence (although many do so to further their own skills) Now according to the prudes, this is crazy, reckless, insane behaviour to be letting these untrained people do this. But guess what? In all these days, not one person has been seriously injured or any major crashes occurred. All these people, reaching speeds of 150km/hr+, all getting around a race track. These are all sensible people, who for nearly the majority don't take it to the roads, but like to let off a bit of steam when they can. If you deny these sorts of people the opportunity to do this, then what do you think happens? I think the challenge at the moment is educating everybody else, that in controlled environments, driving can be just as safe as going for a walk, or going for a swim, or anything else people choose to engage in. Things need to get away from the 'lappers', or street burnout kings, that doing in on a racetrack is so much more fun than doing it illegally. Putting the mindset in that real men take it to the track, and see whether their skills, or cars actually match up to their egos. Learn, get it out of their system, and go back to driving and realising some of the limitations of their own skills at the end of the day. It is only then that the 'hooning' will ever truly stop

Anyone Had Their Car Resprayed Black?
predator replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
I am not sure if the R34 black (or R33) is similar, but the R32 metallic black has a subtle speckled effect which shows up in the sun. In darker light it's just 'black' The rest on my car is just dirt -
