i'm with mj on the highflow = not worth it brigade.. really? crap.. is there a limit on customs duty? i thought it was anything under $200 isn't subject to duty.. in the next week or so i'm going to order a Trust camgear and Nismo cap, that is all i want.. i dont want to get raped by customs for just those mini items
-
yer, exactly next best after that is 14.1 .. will be interesting to see whether willowbank gives me better times or what
-
i have cheap tyres though.. i would get azenis too if i could afford it. i want a camgear, and timing belt replace before i get out there again... and i will get gavin to tune it..see whether he can weave his magic on mine. hks 2530 kit is around $2k for the kit from nengun.
-
yer.. i got a 13.98 done last year in melb.. similar mods, similar power.. except i have a bigger fuel pump, and front dump, otherwise same really.
-
the key word matt is transcooler sounds good though, one advantage of *not* having a loan is you have more to throw at mods.. unfortunately i've had to throw $3k at mine and not much has been performance orientated i guess if it all was i'd have a mid-12 sec car .. dems the brakes i guess, car either looks good or goes hard.. mine i guess is half-half
-
..and when you live away from home the unexpected bill hops up, etc, etc
-
i found i was getting dodgy at saving anyhow. Once i was really good, but then i moved out of home it was all over but a loan is something you always *have* to pay off each fortnight, no two ways about it, rather than saying "ok, i will save this $200 rather than spend it". DEpends how good your financial management is i guess, but i know mine wavers..

i think loans are ok.. they build a credit history for buying things later in life.. i used to disapprove heavily of loans too.. but then i got one, paid that off, have paid a good chuck of the R33 off, and its been fun for me. In the end, even on a $20k loan, you pay around $4k interest. That sounds like a lot, but over time you don't really notice it. At the end, as long as the car doesn't depreciate massively, you still have a reasonable asset to sell off. mj: and i still waste my money on fast food, alchohol, and the occassional smoke

i'd drive but don't have my proper car so that leaves :glug:
-
ben: that is cool. .that is kinda what i did when i was shopping around for loans.. just kinda asked. but i had a previous loan of $5k i had paid off.
-
haha,... i think that is the same for a lotta folks here except me coz i cant shutup .. hmm, beer time.. this will require drive to bottle shop crap.effort
-
yer..probably a myth.. its probably just detonation caused by poor tune that causes probs, then they blame the nos for destroying their engine. ben: good luck with the loans, but remember, every loan you apply for goes on your credit record. Basically other banks in a way use this to assess the loan application. So the more loan applications you are refused, the less likely you will get one. A loan of $12k is also a lot for a young-ish guy with no previous credit history, and you would definitely need a fulltime job and around 3 months of being there. Just wait, you will get it.. There was a lot of waiting before i got my r33..

i think merli gets off thinking about sticking things into small holes.. its a nsw thing -
ok, i think i read (could have just been an uninformed post) that its the chemical composition that eats away the piston rings or vavles or something.. but that could be just myth. just curious.. depends how its tuned too i suppoose
-
is NOS ok for the engine though after sustained periods? like short shots here and there are probably fine, but i've heard it kills the engine after a while unless the engine has been specifically built for it.. true or false?
-
fridges in cars are well, cool, even better is being in the back of said car on a long trip. End up being quite pissed by the time you get there really

Advice on buying/locating first 'line
predator replied to Zebbie's topic in General Automotive Discussion
meh.. or a fully modified series1.. from bodykit to performance and pulling a lot more kw, and handling better as well. series2 is nothing special. You either get a stock series1 for that price or a series1 with lots of modifications and maybe 50% more power. And any "landed and complied price" add around $2k for new tyres ($800), rego (approx $600 depending on state), aircon fixing ($200?) and stamp (approx $400 on a $20k car). But i am biased as you can tell It is hard to get a good value import compared to what is available locally, especially in the R33. Which i think i can say fairly objectively. Things changed a lot after SEVS, prices are holding steady. Good luck zebbie - do you research and you'll find what you are after I am sure. -
i want lower i'll go the JVC probably if nobody has anything really cheap .. i got the entry level JVC in my r33 and that is awesome for the price and i would prefer mp3 as mp3 face unit is the greatest invention in the last 30 years of car audio . I was hoping just somebody had a factory nissan deck they had removed that was never going into another car and could give or donate to me for a carton or something

Conspiracy Theory? or just BS?

I think RACV and RACQ inspections are different kettles of fish, even though they are basically the same organisations - just based in two different states. I think RACQ up here may have been more formally NRMA? not sure In melbourne at least, I never really felt the RACV inspection was that good on any car i had inspected, even non imports. But from your recent report, sounds like where you took it for RACQ they did a quite thorough inspection. You can say fair call possibly on the dealer not trusting RACQ inspection, however all they have to lose is a sale if they are affraid to have it checked out. I assume you are probably paying too, so unless they have something to hide why should they care? Probably what they should have said was "yes, you can do an RACQ inspection if you like, but its not what we would use as any comprehensive guide on the quality of the car". With what i have heard of most dealers, and what they bring in, there is definitely a lot that they *are* trying to hide. Getting a cheaper car in japan means a greater profit for them here in Australia- from a business perspective that makes sense, but ends up screwing over many consumers. To be honest, I reckon you might just be better biting the bullet and trying to import your R34 (if possible). You are taking a definite risk again, but many import brokers have their own inspectors they use in japan to inspect the vehicle before you go ahead. All they really have to lose is their reputation by bringing in a dodgy car (even though it may not always be there fault), so in a way it pays for them to check it out also. What you save ($5k?) on doing this, you can put aside for an engine replacement (worse case scenario), or modications when it gets here. I think though, all the plates have dried up though now to our lovely government ****ing the import laws up
