  1. you're not using the search very effectively as there are pages and pages of info on what you can do.
  2. what blitz says.. anything above $20k has to be secured generally... Under $20k is the maximum of a personal loan, above that it has to be secured. Sometimes that can be the vehicle itself but it has to be under X years old (usually this varies), and they only want something aussie that can be auctioned off later and easy sale if you default. If you bought a brand new HSV there would be no problems, even if it cost twice as much
  3. my sausage Ninja now has a full associated story?
  4. part-time work is good.. 3 part time jobs is even better
  5. the reason i ask.. is i have some under bonnet intercooler piping that i may get powdercoated soon. The obvious choice would be silver to match everything else. But if black was inherently more efficient at dissipating heat then maybe it would be a better idea to go black. I think you have answered my question rev210. yes, i know HPC would be the most efficient.. but the extra cost probably isn't worth it in my car.
  6. mine was a mixture of both.. lol
  7. Here it is.. all laid out: Change of engine 1. Replacement engine is identical to the original engine, or is an option allowed by the manufacturer for the same model vehicle The change of engine may be recorded by VicRoads provided that the registered operator or a motor mechanic, or dealer in that make of vehicle or an Automotive Engineer signs a declaration certifying the engine is optional for the vehicle model, and that all modifications made by the manufacturer for the same vehicle model with that optional engine, have been completed. An original receipt for the purchase of the engine must be provided as proof of ownership of the engine. A vehicle inspection is required, and a Change of Description form must be completed. 2. Replacement engine is not of a type offered by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle or where alterations, or changes to the vehicle's frame or structure are made, and/or specially fabricated supports or structures are used A VASS Approval Certificate from a VicRoads Vehicle Assessment Signatory is required. An original receipt for the purchase of the engine must be provided as proof of ownership of the engine. A vehicle inspection is required, and a Change of Description form must be completed.
  8. yeah.. sux don't it.. owning a skyline is great till it all goes wrong.. Then again anycar over about $10k the exact same stuff can happen so you can never win.
  9. if they can make a mould, shouldn't matter if its in a couple of pieces if you can sorta temporary stick them together.. should be jumping at the chance.. usually these body kit places have a shithouse selection of kits to choose from..same old
  10. fibreglass you can fix well if you put time into it.
  11. nah.. guess i'll call him friday and ask (when he said it would be back). I'm sure it will be "we've been really really busy.. its going to be another couple of weeks". Guess not too fussed, the longer it takes the longer i have to save to pay for it.. and get ready for the $800 for the timing belt and things after that. Money money money is so funny, when you're burning it all away..
  12. hmmm...i think i want my rice box back
  13. yer.. my phone is going off from now on
  14. wake up australia.. nick style!
  15. haha.. the more skylines the merrier! I'm up to two..
  16. Unfortunately the EPA are clever cats and know what to look for They are nicer than the cops, and don't even really approve of testing skyline after skyline for minor things.. But even then they can't change the rules, and will check everything from the stock ecu to whether you have stock boost hooked up.
  17. The vicroads says something similar hidden amongst their lovely jungle of pages. That is requries the appropriate handling and stopping force also for that engine. That is, brakes. rowdyr32 - fine.. if you bend the rules you might get away with it. But if you get dicked and the cop knows what the laws, you will be in the same situation as having no engineers basically. An engineers if invalid won't get you out of anything. You wouldn't get away with putting the 300kw GTS engine in a v6 executive either without at least upgrading the brake system. Personally the best approaching is doing what nearly everybody else does in VIC. Drive around and hope you don't get fully reamed one day. If its a defect, there are plenty of places that will give you a "generous" RWC that won't even check the engine, and in vicroads there are those that can be given appropriate payments to make sure things happen. Thats not a drama.. but if the EPA comes a knockin' ..well.. bend over
  18. problem is the student protests just make them out to be a bunch of wingeing dickheads .. but anyhow..
  19. mj: check the super ninja area
  20. I found this snippet.. Actually, rather than thinking of them as absorbers of heat, darker colors are better absorbers of light and thereby become better radiators of heat. Consider the following: The color of an object depends on the wavelengths of colors reflected from the object. A red apple is red because red wavelengths in white light are reflected and other wavelengths are absorbed. In fact, if a red apple were to be illuminated by light that had no red wavelengths, the apple would appear almost black. When a black object is illuminated by white light, all wavelengths are absorbed and none are reflected -- that's why the object appears black. I learned this the hard way one dark night when I tried to use my flashlight locate a Black Angus steer that had escaped our pen. All I could see when I shined the light on the steer were two glowing eyes. Getting back to the point; when light is absorbed by a black object, the energy carried by the light doesn't just disappear. Rather, it raises the energy of the object doing the absorbing. The object, in turn, releases the absorbed energy by emitting longer wavelength, lower energy infrared (heat). This transformation of light into heat is the key to understanding the process because it accounts for the law of conservation of energy. Light just doesn't disappear when it strikes a black object -- it's transformed into another kind of radiation that is either radiated from or retained within the black object. The darker the object, the better its emission of heat because it is a better absorber of light.
  21. I've always wondered that. Is black more efficient even if its not reflecting ambient light? The reason I understand black is more efficienent at absorbing heat when exposed to light, is that it aborbs all of the visible colour spectrum. How does this actually apply to heat absorbtion in a closed environment (e.g. under bonnet or the like) ?
  22. lol.. yeah.. i reckon we all ring nick at 4am tonight.. sounds mean john.. gonna suprise a few people with that one! half the fun i guess!
  23. I'm interested too. What is the process for defect notices up here? I know how it worked in melb, that was easy. Just get a valid RWC from any old where, present it to vicroads with the defect notice, and they might give a quick look at your car (although not generally) and clear it.
  24. The other option that works fairly well for stealth is just keeping the intercooler silver and going for the aluminium mesh. Basically from a metre away it will be hard to impossible to spot. Mine is pretty difficult to see that it has a FMIC unless you get up close (where they are going to see a black one anyhow)
  25. hahaha.. hate to see how much it cost to send 50sms as well
