  1. messiah: yeah autosol works fairly well at polishing, in conjunction with a fast polishing buffer can work wonders. With painting, mine was never painted but once its all smooth I assume after that its fairly easy to paint using any painting method (using the appropriate heat resistant paints) sky-chicks car is a great example... probably heaps more shiney than mine. If it doesn't come up great, you may be better off just taking the parts of completely and taking them to a specific metal polisher (see: yellowpages).. they will probably give you a much better result than doing it manually, and saves time. Will cost you a bit of money, but generally its not much as using the proper machinery it can be done in minutes. Then you just have to worry about bolting it all back together.
  2. Its really pretty pointless, but i just have to add a definite :werd: there
  3. good point, but question: why in fact was SEVS ever allowed in the first place? Why not scap imports altogether at that particular juncture? Its well within the Governments powers to. You forget the other extra economy it brings in terms of spare parts, accessories, import taxes, GST, insurance profits, and everything else that the government profits from either directly or indirectly and that is probably why it stays. Having a few imports, but not a flood of cars coming allows that. And if you say "I find it amusing that people think that a few hundred or even a few thousand people can influence the scrapping of the 15 year rule." - why in fact HAS the government continued this "grey" importing to continue over the last xx years? simple because they KNOW there is a demand, and there are reasons to allow it to continue (even if its restricted) because there is a large number of people that WANT IT. If they didn't think people cared, they would have killed "grey" importing altogether a long time ago. Doing this would undoubtably destroy votes, which is what are politicians are there for of course. Why you think during the whole US trade deal, the sugar industry was even an issue? because Howard knows after the recent QLD election that a large number of minority liberal seats that may decide the fate of the next election are based in the rural communities this effects... and again you could say "pft, few farmers aren't gonna make a difference". But during a close election, these things do matter if you make an issue about it. Scrapping it all together would piss off a large number of people, and yes, I still think the words of a few individuals can make a difference. If all they do hear is the one sided industry voice they are never going to see the other side of the story, and they will just go on thinking what they already do. Maybe you can't change that, but at least you can TRY. Useless pricks who always say "i can't make a difference" are the followers in this country.. you want to make a difference, you gotta believe you can. anyhow.. nuff talking, everybody start writing if you feel strongly enough. Not much point wasting too much energy in here and you can argue 'till the cows come home. I think there is enough food for thought to make a good start..
  4. You would want to stay out of the PIT of punishment however...
  5. do you suggest the golden pine cone of pleasure or the peanut of pain? which one are you referring to? I'd actually recommend the blue pineapple tipped smoothie for you...
  6. yup.. exactly.. no point in getting another turbo unless you're getting the most out of what you already have. With "Everything else" you should be able to get down to a low 13.x 1/4 mile which is very respectable. Turbo should almost the very last thing on your shopping list.
  7. True, if you notice really the submissions document .. its not really for the public anyhow see: To assist in this analysis, your comments should include any likely effect of the options proposed, on your particular business. Please return the Options Paper to the Department by 27 February 2004.. (although *** it i'm replying anyhow) if you say "i'm not going to vote Liberal next election because of this" they might take it a little differently however.. they like votes. What decision do you think that will be Drifft? will it be the wonderful door behind option #3 or option #2 ?
  8. they are kinda complicated aren't they?..with many bends and folds and things. Would be hard to get one as good as the moulded plastic i'd imagine.. hence why they used plastic in the first place. If you could get a good one made up I'm sure you'd get a *hell* of a lot of people on this forum want to buy them though..
  9. i got a little japanese guy in my boot.. guess they didn't got rid of him during compliance damn japanese little guys!
  10. Here are the options as the government has put forward. Note specifically I already see a lean towards option#2 in their wording (post if you believe otherwise), which I guess is probably my position also, and brings into line things into what actually makes sense. 1989 onwards SEVS, 1989 earlier "15 year". No gaps, fixing most of the problems indicated. Option 1 - Make no changes to the current arrangements. This option would allow for the continued unrestricted importation of vehicles 15 or more years old. In 2003 numbers more than doubled and indications are that numbers will continue to increase each year over the next few years. It is very likely that the number of older vehicles, left unchecked, will exceed the number of vehicles being processed through the RAWS. There is already evidence of some businesses positioning themselves to specialise in the importation of older vehicles, especially from Japan. These businesses are now actively advertising on the Internet. On the one hand businesses are becoming established that rely on these vehicles being available, but on the other hand businesses that have made a significant investment in becoming a RAW are finding it difficult to compete against the sale of over 15 year old vehicles. Option 2 - From 1 January 2005 allow only vehicles manufactured prior to 1 January 1989, to be imported. This option: • provides a period of transition for businesses already established to import 15 or more years old vehicles; • allows vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1989 or earlier to be imported without restriction; • restricts the importing of vehicles manufactured after 1 January 1989 which may not meet the later safety and emissions performance requirements; • allows vehicles manufactured after 1 January 1989 listed on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles (the Register), to be imported by a Registered Automotive Workshop; and • maintains the intent of the provisions to allow historic or specialist vehicles to be imported. Option 3 - From 1 January 2005 allow only vehicles 30 or more years old to be imported without restriction. This option: • aligns to the Australian Vehicle Standards Rule that allows registration of lefthand drive vehicles over 30 years old, without conversion to right-hand drive; − some jurisdictions allow registration of left-hand drive vehicles that are less than 30 years old; • would significantly reduce the number of older vehicles entering Australia; however, some enthusiast vehicles older than 1989 but less than 30 years would be unavailable; and • would allow for vehicles less than 30 years old that are listed on the Register to be imported and plated under the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme.
  11. sorry, rocksilvia this is taken DIRECT from the Governments submission and therefore the government's position: "The intent of this arrangement when it was introduced was to provide for the importation of older vehicles on the basis that they were generally imported for restoration and club use." But anybody does want to see what the Government is thinking: read their submissions request... quite simple! And see whether you agree or disagree. If you disagree, simple let your views be known and respond as indicated. If not, be quiet or write why you think it should be removed. http://www.r34skyline.com/politics/dotar/D...otar_15year.pdf
  12. Its not white is it? AVC-R, slotted rotors? quite clean? me and a friend looked at once a couple of months back when I was in Melb.. similar story.
  13. better watch out.. vickii is in the market for a new bf with a nice 33 she can drive around :bahaha:
  14. I'd be careful.. its just not worth the risk! What happens if you want to sell it later on? I'm sure others will be cautious enough not to buy without it. I'm not sure whether the numbers are significant at all, but cars can be stolen and sent out of japan quite easily for those with dodgy connections.. then complied and registered over here also with questionable connections. Plus, until about 12-18 months ago when they tightened up the rules in VIC it was very easy to simply swap the compliance plate of a smashed GTR with a non-complianced GTR.. AND Vicroads has a reputation for being one of the dodgiest government departments in Australia. Could have even been a statutary write off, just somehow, somebody managed to get it fixed up and re-registered. The blue plate cannot have simply just gone "missing" for any logical reason other than something dodgy. Clearly??
  15. pft.. you can't even get compliance for a 32GTR yet.. not sure about 33GTR under SEVS though i'll admit (32k sounds too low), and 1989 GTR will soon be a thing of the past with the change of the 15 year rule. hehe..
  16. here is mine: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=31877 .. over time the shinyness does tend to fade a little. you can also use one of those buffer attachments for a drill and a decent polishing compound if you don't have a bench grinder.
  17. v.good.. hey somebody stole you're engine though.. might wanna look into that?
  18. i got pix of the end result? but not really along the way unfortunately..
  19. some good pointers.. maybe i'm sounding supercilious with this, but to get 12's out of a GTR is hardly difficult. I think more of a challenging is getting a good mid-12 from a RWD GTS-T which costs 1/2 as much. From that article what is impressive is the little $ required to get a lot more power. yeah, you can include parts of article if you include the reference, for "research" purposes.
  20. It won't become smooth until you start using the other finer grade papers.. then it will start getting a lot shinier. Its hard work and takes many hours but eventually it'll come up. Just keep going, sounds like you've got the right idea.
  21. its a 32.. rb20det engine are pretty cheap.. Probably cost about half of what your turbo did inasnt
  22. matt: see above.. Apexi is way about 90db, and a cop can sniff it from kilometers away. In VIC anything thats an attention grabber will get you pulled over, its a police state ! I know people that have specifically failed with the N1, its a loud exhaust - might be good, but way loud. Depends, Apexi may have a quieter exhaust (not the N2, thats loud also ).. but yeah..
  23. :werd: If it wasn't for dealers trying to push the envelope and try and keep their business running this never would have been a problem. But of course, businesses look for a business an opportunity and grab it, can't fault them for that. But it will mean others will suffer. exactly.. because there isn't one - but that is part of the whole problem. Now rather than being changed to fix problems such as this it is simply being eliminated altogether. Typical government narrowmindedness.
  24. yeah.. could be new turbo time as you probably shat the seals.. oh well for a hardcore drifter such as yourself, these things should little worry you and its time to stick that big fug off turbo on instead
  25. ohhhhhh...you're in Victoria DO NOT GET A LOUD EXHAUST! Something such as the Apexi N1 WILL NOT PASS THE 90db LIMIT. The way things are at the moment you'll get pulled over and EPA'ed in about a month for noise.. the cops are cracking down HEAVILY on this sort of thing, and its any excuse to hassle an skyline owner.. would be a shame to get it all fitted and then realise you've gotta kill it by silencers or something else once you get that EPA. Just make sure you get something that isn't too loud, as you'll probably regret it - no matter how cool it might sound. sorry, but thems Victoria for you.. and hence why i don't live there any more
