all very true comments.. the early turbo nissans were in many ways engineered with post-fuel crisis in mind.. the idea was that you pottered around off boost, until you needed the power, then it kicked into song. Hence the 2L on the HR31 and things right from mid-80's or so, which turned into the more advanced rb20det. Then in the 90's v8's became a lot more efficient, so they had to start raising the capacity a little. Read an article on it recently, and the design methodologies the japanese were trying to achieve during the 80's and 90's.. interesting stuff.

small tip as well Josh.. if you want high quality silicone joiners, hose clamps, and the likes check out a diesel supplies place (that sell things for trucks and the like).. prices are about 1/2 to 1/3 what most performance places charge for high quality silicone hosing in 3", 2 1/2", etc, etc. I got *all* of the hosing and clamps required for my piping for like $40.. for bracing brackets and things, bunnings has a pretty good collection of different ones that you can hammer, bend, drill, etc into what you need.

do you also find perchance, your sexuality confusing?

you could always weld a steel sheet over the top if you really had to clear a defect.. that area is pretty thin metal anyhow .. you can almost stab a screwdriver through it. In my old car it got inspected a few times, passed roadworthies, etc without a problem with the hole there. Don't think they even noticed though.. mild steel will get surface rust in a few days after moisture unless it is coated in someway (once upon a time i sanded back my old hks pipes then soon found out it was mild steel and had to paint it all up again  ).. high temp paint will surfice if you don't want to get technical with more heat resistance

Does Anyone Know A Good Smash Repairer in Brisbane
predator replied to gts25t4door's topic in Queensland
You're going to have to leave it there a couple of weeks anyhow, so I can't see distance is the problem.. if I was looking for a quality place, i'd take it anywhere where they did a good job within a 200km radius -
lol.. welcome to last week guys.. but yes i am grumpy+1 now

er, could be anything... starter motor is down there, maybe it has slightly loose bearings or something. You could also let the clutch out whilst in gear and see when it stalls whether it still makes the noise. For the high idle.. might want to look at this if you haven't already: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=69151 - I am pretty sure all RB engines have the same air regulator system?

um.. could be anything .. your best bet is to get somebody to stand outside the car and try and listen like you say.

Pros and Cons to buying an import from a dealer.
predator replied to Mr. Oizo's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yeah, but he probably got it for like $15k off a dealer-dealer auction or trade in.. dealer always wins Generally I'd probably agree with that, but these days I know of so many Skylines being involved in fairly major front enders that private sales are becoming risky.. they get repaired for as cheap as possible, and forsale on here a couple of months later - with no mention of the damage whatsoever for "normal" prices. Maybe its my imagination, but the amount of R33 you see / hear about that have been involved in little "dorfito" style incidents with gutters and the like is becoming larger and larger - just have a look in the "wanted" section for front end parts. I could say "never buy from anybody under the age of 22" as well - but maybe that would be a tad unfair -
Engineering Done !!
predator replied to TokyoTaxi's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
must'a missed that  Up here you need an engineering certificate for major modifications only. There have been a few that have been busted by QLD transport for having "non ADR equipment" on their cars, but this is contrary to their own publications which state that many modifications are legal! A cop the other week looked over my car, and only comment was "shiney intercooler piping you go there". It's all so contradictory, no matter where you are. I think having a system for major modifications is fine, to at least look over large turbo setups, etc to make sure they are not going to be too hazadous (engine bays catching on fire, etc).. but for the simple things, its just stupid. I guess that is one of the reasons I also bought an old cheap car (R32), simply because i want to modify it to my hearts content and not be worried about voiding the expensive policy on a $30k car. 3rd party is as far as it goes. Insurance companies can get knotted.. taking my hard earned $1000+ a year, when i have never even had an at fault accident since i started driving 10 years ago. The car I own is now clearly irrelevent - so I should be paying what it costs to insure a 15 year old camry - they can bullshit on about calculated risk and all the rest, but in the end, it just comes down to your driving history above the car after a few years. -

Please don't pass of NSW rules as being the rest of the country's, as things are not the same in other parts of australia. They are not as strict up here for example as to aftermarket parts. -
yeah, but cefiros have different ecu's.. tuned for slugging around town no doubt. My right foot has a habbit of falling to the floor rapidly during most opportunties - but I can live with that.

bilsteins are a sexy yellow though -
why not just steal your car parts then? trying to dodge the system is one and the same.. that is the import laws established for the country... yes you do get screwed, just like you do when you fill up your car and pay more than the price of the petrol itself in taxes.. or you buy a packet of smokes, a bottle of booze, etc, etc. Get Over It. Pay the taxes like everybody else has to.

cool... well i am just getting the parts for my manual conversion.. so far i have clutch (to be reconditioned), pressure plate, gearbox, lightened flywheel, manual tailshaft, manual cross member, master cylinder, some metal line bits with a box that goes from master cylinder to slave cylinder, pedals.. there is the pretty in cabin stuff but that can be done later. I think that is most of it, although I still need a trust bearing, and clutch fork. Maybe some basic wiring as well? It seems to fit together as a complete system so I am pretty sure that is all you need. Cost me $700 so far for just the bits but you should budget around $1000 to do it (with rb20det box that is). I'm going to write up a full guide with photos when I change it all over, as there isn't one on here, and there should be..

nengun and greenline also have some reasonably priced Nismo braided lines, at not much more than the local stuff - around $300 delivered (a set) Not sure whether the quality would be better or worse than the local stuff?

That is very true.... people choose what they want to drive for their own reasons, which is a number of factors or they would not be driving them. but hmm.. can you please list these mystical R33 GTR for under 30 grand?? I want to buy one..

getting "screwed on import duty" ? You mean you are getting charged appropriately as to the laws that have been established? Thing is, if its a well known greenline or nengun, customs knows who these guys are, if you know who they are - they see hundreds of items from them each year. They can check up on the values of items sent with suppliers, they can request invoices from them. You actually have *less* chance of getting stung from other companies I would imagine, rather than two of the largest suppliers of performance parts to aussies from japan.
