Hi - since you have a bunch of small parts - do you have the small piece of rubber that fills the gap between the bottom driver's side mirror an the black strip that runs along the top of the door. Thanks.

It's the thicker white mark. If you are unsure, there are also timing marks on the cam gears and rear timing case cover. You can use them instead of the marks on the crank pulley. I don't think that I would be able to do the job with-out removing the radiator.

No worries - thanks for selling me your bumper so cheap.

I have swapped by RB20DET in cam for an RB20DE. You need to get the timing belt off, which is real simple and explained on the forum and in the GTR manual in the forum, making sure that everything is at top dead centre which is easy coz there are markings on the timing comers and on the rear timing cover (behind the cam gears). When taking of the harmonic balancer you will need a 27mm (I think socket). FYI – it is a normal thread. Take the cam cover off. Take the cam gears off. Take the rear timing cover off (the cover behind the cam gears). Very gradually undo the bolts that hold the bridges that hold the cam gear down. Do this slowly and take your time. When I did it I got some crud caught in the brackets which made it very difficult to undo the bolts - I though that I had threaded the holes but it was all ok. You will notice that the bridges are numbered. They go from one to seven (I think) front to back. There are also little bumps in them that tell you which is the right hand side. Clean them up and take a look before you take them off - remember not to get excited and rush it. Once the cam is out you can put the new one in. You might like to get a new front seal as the old one may be a little stretched. I think I paid $30 each (one for each cam) from Nissan who had them in stock. I had a problem whereby the crud in the bridges made the screws stuck in there and I could not turn them. Using a vice and a hold punch I managed to get them out. Remember to crew the cam in gradually when putting it back in. When I did mine I used the torque settings in the GTR manual which saw me snap one of the bolts. Once I got it back out again I simply screwed them down tight. Put it back together ensuring everything is at top dead centre. FYI the exhaust cam has a little something extra in the end of it which drives the crank angle sensor which the in cam does not have (this will help you to identify it if you mix them up). I have tried to be brief. If you would like me to describe something in more detail let me know. Also look on the forum for the GTR manual. It has pictures.

Does anyone have the torque settings that I should use on the bolts that hold the cams in place?

I have been looking at the Tomei cam specs page. The page shows that the RB20DE ex cam has the same specs as the RB20DET ex cam except the centre lobe angle which is 117 for the DE compared to 120 dgrees on the DET. Would installing the ex cam gear have the same effect as installing an adjustable cam gear and retarding it 3 degrees?
-
Has anyone put a cam gear on and RB20? What was the result?
-
Hi, Is the bootlid on an R32 GTR aluminium?
-
Merli, do you know what the lobe centre angle is? I understand lift and duration but lobe centre angle?

Hi JAY95R33/ JIMX, Did retarding the ex timing make the car feel any different?

Is the rear cradle for sale - did the car have HICAS? -
Black32 did this work for you? I am struggling with exactly the same thing as we speak. Sydneykid, I am struggling to get anything between the pulley gear and the plate behind it without bending the plate - are there any other tips at all coz I'm really strugling... Thanks.

Hi, My clutch is slipping and it’s about time for a new one. I have a five-puck ceramic clutch that I got from Just Jap. It lasted two years with a fair amount of abuse. I would like to know if having a clutch re-conditioned is a reasonable idea. I have a GTS4 and the labour that people charge is enormous – maybe reconditioning the clutch could keep the overall price down. Any thoughts?

RB20DE CAMS INTO RB20DET who has done it?
armbrusb replied to Dayna's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Dayna, I read your thread on SAU and found it interesting. Good work. I am considering the the NA cams as I have a VG30 roller bearing (not high flowed) which is great when it comes on boost, but has left a bit of a hole down low. Did you change both cams or just the cam on the intake side? What pressure (torque) did you tighten the bolts that holds the cams down with? Has there been anyone else who has actually made this change given you any feedback? -
Hi, My oil pump is leaking. It looks like (can't get a real good look til I take it off) it's leaking from where the crank shaft come out. I'm gonna take it off and fix the leak. I have an R32 GTS4 - do I have to worry about the sump, or can I take the lot off without touching the sump. Are there any other surprises I need to look out for?
-
I have an R32 GTS4 and my oil pump is leaking. I want to take it off a replace the gasket and seal inside the pump - but removing my sump is not an option - with the transaxle being part of the sump I need to lift the engine rather than drop the sump. Should I be able to get the pump off without removing the sump?

Thanks Stephen, I checked it out with Unique Autosports who said that the labour would be around $1500 (!?!?!) because the job is a pain. I spoke to a guy named Tim there who said that the job is such a pain that they have only done it five times. I asked him about the pineapples and he said that is what most people do because of the cost of replacing the bushes. I also called Advan at Silverwater. They said that they would fit aluminium bushes which they reckon are better for $905. I also asked him about pineapples and he said that they we no good and went on for a little bit about how they split and were a waste of time. He said that I would be better off waiting until I had the money to do the job properly. This is pretty scary stuff – there is no way that I am paying someone $1000 to replace these bushes. You said that your friend did the job himself (I’m happy to get in and do it myself). When it can time to get the old bushes out did he need to get them welded out or did they come out with a press only? Is it at all possible for your friend to describe the process – I would like to know what I’m getting myself into before I do something dumb. -
