  1. well we took the lifters on the exhaust side out where we suspected the problem was. the #1 lifter showed signs of it getting stuck half way, which would leave the valve open. we also tried to blow air into the #1 cyl, and unlike before.. it didnt let air through... CHEERING.
  2. well im still getting this problem.. sucks major ass. would over-filling the gearbox oil have an effect on getting stuck in 1st? when i had the oil changed they over filled it by a fair bit which i just noticed now.
  3. im not getting that kind of noise though. my bro in law confirmed that there is no reason why it would be the valves, he was very careful when it all went in, it was all at TDC.
  4. im starting to think its a valve, but would a bent valve give me a lifter noise? as in the ticking unbled lifters make. ive done 110km so far and had no big change. although the first time we did the motor there was low oil pressure which made a lifter noise on all cylinders, now the noise is only on #1.
  5. ive got a fully sealed ROCKET battery. 13 row, 560cca with vents for $110. got it from globe battery sales.. for anyone whos in syd the address is: 7 davies rd padstow.. you cant miss it, its got flashing lights outside it.
  6. it'd start like normal as you'd have around 15-25 psi oil pressure on start up (higher revs). as for power... oil pressure wont stop your pistons rotating your crank.
  7. ive got an n1 oil pump on my car so i think it should be right after a while. my brother in law has told me it wont be a valve.. it would more likley be a lifter.. i'll keep driving it and see how i go. ill keep you all posted.
  8. just in a box.. i blew them out thoroughly before installing them though.
  9. you look like a monkey.. and you smell like one too. happy birthday brother :sorcerer: (couldnt find a smiley with a party hat so this guy will do)
  10. save for a rebuild or a new motor. if you keep driving it, it'll eventually eat away at your crank till you have to get a new one, then you'll have to get that one machined bla bla bla. dont drive it around till it dies... because when it does you'll be left without a leg to stand on. rb20's come cheap these days.. ive seen one for around $1500 for a long motor (get a short motor if you can). + labour and you'll have your car within a weeks time depending on your mechanic. if you get the long motor, you could always try sell your rb20 head for a few hundred.
  11. i assembled it, i used a magnet and lifted them out. they were stored in box. all other cylinders are fine.
  12. thanks mate, i'll let you know.. chances are if the lifters are stuffed i'd get the head serviced.
  13. i'll give that a go tomorrow mate. thanks for that.
  14. the head surface done by duncan foster engineering in sydney. just added that to rule out the head gasket leaking.
  15. i did the rebuild.. its got me completley confused. sorry i meant lifters... fixed first post.
  16. this is the gear thats stuffed... i guess if you got the same gear and replaced it you could get it running again without spending the $$ on a new AC unit.
  17. this has really got me puzzled... we went to start the car today after my rebuild when #1 wasnt firing. it wasnt showing compression and there seems to be no compression leak through the rings, or through the head.. my only option now is to run the car and hope the lifters bleed themselves properly as its up on ramps now. then get a leak down test. if anyone has any idea what it could be PLEASE let me know.. we installed new rings, head gasket and got the head machined.
  18. yeah that sounds about right. sorry mate, my bad.. but yellow is still faster.
  19. the problem with the delta fin is there will be more damage to the fins if a rock bounced up and hit it because of the design, but thats me nit picking.. has anyone had any experience with the delta fin because im thinking of getting one.
  20. its an easy one to rip off. while looking at the motor its to the left, just behind the fan. it'll take around 15mins to get it off and put another one on considering you've taken alternators off before.
  21. ive already done it to my car and i really dont wanna do it again.. when you finish you'll know what i mean.. its a bitch of a job.
  22. thanks mate. yellow is faster.
